Unbelievable. Actually scratch that... Totally believable. We should be ashamed of what we've become, designing to a price point to maximize initial profit (which in a perfect world from the manufacturers' perspective barely makes it exactly past the warranty period) before needing major repair. And people wonder why their RV's lose 70% of their value in the first 5 years. Great job. You're an engineer in my book.

Dustin we have a 2018 sunset trail too. Over the last year or so the slide hops going in and out and I’ve used wd40 specialist dry lube to lubricate the friction bar. It worked well for a while but still requires lube every time we move the slide. Now I’m noticing the Darco material fraying on the ends so now I’m thinking it’s time to install these rollers. Have you installed these rollers on your sunset trail and which rollers did you use? Also, do you guys know what I could seal the darco with to keep water out of the plywood floor? I wondered while watching this video that you can see the plywood floor since this customers darco was so worn off. Installing rollers but never sealing up the bottom aren’t you going to end up with a rotten floor and have to do major repairs down the road? I was looking at flex seal paste to coat the frayed darco. But would love your opinions!

Only concern is how the bottom of that slide will hold up against those rollers. As Glen suggested, using a thin nylon/plastic guide for the roller to run on would be ideal, but adds another layer of complexity to the repair. I'd do one more thing to finish the job.....seems it wasn't till 2020 or so manufacturers finally figured out a simple $3 drip edge piece of metal (or plastic) would be nice to put on each end of the slide- remove the trim piece on each end and slide the 90 degree piece of flashing under the slide wall and attach the bottom part to the slide floor with some short screws, then cover with darco tape. Alternatively you can use 4" black eternabond instead, wrapped around. Solves the age old problem of floor rot that starts at the edges and works its way in because when it rains the water runs down the wall and hangs out on the underside due to surface tension!

Excellent re-engineering the manufacturers lack of engineering. Totally insane manufacturer engineering. You've got all that weigh sitting on plywood, OSB in some units, wrapped with essentially a tarp and it's expected to glide smoothly over a strip of nylon, which itself is not properly supported and eventually fails. Totally insane. I guess each time they find a cheaper method and componets that works long enough to exit the warranty period manufacturers will continue replacing tried and true methods and components. I learned the hard way not to tap the toggle to "snug" the BAL electric slides. For all those reading this.....When the motor indicates the slide is all the way in/out immediately release the toggle. Otherwise you'll strip the gears out. James choose not to show the BAL adjustments because there are a ton of videos already available. The hardest part of adjusting these BAL slides is gaining access where the slides are nearly to the ceiling. Cheers!

Since u asked ,i noticed the wheel well trim was out of alignment now
@AZExpert4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, me too. The factory had to offset the cut fender in order for it to nest better so it looks out of alignment.

Is it me or is the motor noise produced my this brand louder than normal? I seem to have heard much quieter motors from other brands.
@AZExpert4 жыл бұрын
There are only two types of motors for these BAL slides. The older solid gear box is the heavy duty design and quieter, the newer lightweight has a flexible shaft which is louder and much more common.....because it's cheaper

Absolute genius. I’d guess the plastic “guides” wear down with that heavy slide on it. The rollers are far better to carry the weight. Probably not worth welding the rollers to the frame. Not everyone has a forklift to lift a slide 😂. I got some airbags and cribbing on a rescue squad that would work. Nice repair and better then new. Motor sounds less stressed 👍🏼

Maybe if it was a solid shoe, but it was a hollow tube with one vertical support, how could it not collapse? The forklift was overkill in hindsight :)

AZ Expert they are built for a good time, not a long time. 😂

Very thorough craftmanship. You think about the long term on your repairs. Great job!

Had to add rollers to my alliance, now the slide floors don’t lay flat to the rv floor!!

Great fix. I think that you should sent the toyhauler company a bill for fixing their mistake.

Pretty cool idea. It’s crazy all the dust out there. Not a big fan of the cable driven slides, maybe it’s a lack of understanding on my part. Does it say in the owner’s manual that 3 people are required to operate the slide? 1 person for the switch and 2 people to pull the slide out or push it in? You may not know the formulas and equations to build that slide however the person who did had no idea what friction is. Just sayin!!

Sometimes I wonder with these designs for sure. In ideal conditions it should work but I've never encountered "ideal" conditions.

Nice job. I wish the manufacturers would have their engineer cronies watch your videos of all their flawed designs. It’s really sad that after all the years of making these trailers that they are still so far behind in logical engineering practices.

RVs are always listening for a challenge, so I keep quiet around them.

Where did you source the rollers?
@AZExpert4 жыл бұрын
amazon sells them, lipperts online store has them, and of course your local rv dealer should be able to get them. Thanks!

Please please can I hire you to fix mine?! I am having the same exact issue with my Keystone and I am actually stuck with it for another year or so, until I'm going to trade it in for a non-keystone! In the meantime I am stuck with the same exact issue that you are speaking of. I am not handy enough to do this type of work on my own. Are you for hire? I will trust you before I trusted the RV dealership.... they've already taken me for thousands of dollars on other assorted bullshit. Are you for hire? I really could use this in my Keystone for my living room slide out is doing the same exact thing.

I am really sorry to hear that. I am somewhat booked up for awhile. you can send me an email @ azrvexpert@gmail.com

@@AZExpert keystone is junk... this is only one of the many bad engineering foibles of this brand..... cabinets that are useless because of their height, ramps to steep to load anything on 2wheels unless you are evil kinevil, and a litany of assorted other problems that are too lengthy to list here. It's a is they hired a bunch of drunk guys to take over on the weekends in sales....bad in so many ways.....
