As all of us get older including our pets we change. Nothing can stay the same forever. It doesn't necessarily mean something negative just something new. The new normal. A 11-12 year old dog won't always act like a young dog. Simply because of the normal physiological changes. Just keep being the good mom that you are. We love Key so much! He is such a beautiful and adorably social boy! Our very young at heart 12 and 1/2 year old husky passed away in June from Hemangiosarcoma. From everything Jamie shared about Sherpa, I'm quite certain they both died of the same thing. When everything happened (which happened very quickly for us....as in a matter of just a few hours) we were told that he had a mass on his spleen which had ruptured. The scary thing about this cancer is that it's very invasive and silent. It presents itself when it's too far gone. One of the symptoms our boy had was trouble getting up from the floor. This was mistaken for arthritis. I don't mean to scare you, but wonder if you could have your vet check on this for you. It won't show up in any blood work or x-rays, but will on an ultrasound. Praying that you find some answers and the Key becomes his true self once again! You are an amazing mom to him and he's beyond lucky to have you looking out for his best interests the way you are!

Ive lost three dogs to this. Cancer mass on Spleen. Two of my dogs, different breeds, same ages, EXACT SAME TIME!!! It appears more common now that it was prior late 70s. It was fairly common for dogs to live in mid to late teens prior to mass produced dog food. Something to ponder about. This is survivable with surgery if caught prior to rupturing. Recovery is around 6 weeks, large dogs live 1-3 years average after surgery, small dogs 3-5 years. Change of diet to script diet nescessary. Issues most likely to occur after surgery to watch for. If crap surgeon, may affect heartbeat causing irregular heartbeat. Dog will need Pacemaker. Most common issue is cancer moves to brain causing siezures, or issues with movement. The best way to catch this early is with a yearly abdominal/chest XRay. Simple, Cheap. DO IT YEARLY WITHOUT FAIL ALONG WITH BASIC BLOOD TEST/LABS WITHOUT FAIL!!! Yearly exam with blood/chem test and an xray can be around $200.00 or lower in sane states. DOGS WILL NOT LIVE FOREVER!!!! LETTING THEM SUFFER BECAUSE PEOPLE CANT LET GO DUE TO LETTING SELFISH EMOTIONS GET IN THE WAY IS CRUELTY BEYOND REASON! Be a GREAT FRIEND/MASTER. Do not let your best friends suffer! Do right by them!

Best way to avoid this type of cancer mass on Spleen is to avoid commercial dogfoods. Feed fresh foods, cooked chiken, meat, fish, wild game, balance diet with CORRECT fiber/veggies/fruits.... Dogs were never made to eat processed dry/canned dog foods. FYI, cancers such as this did not start appearing in mass until late 70s, early 80s. A certain herbicide and herbicide resitance gmo seed. This is the reason your bread, cereals, tortillas, corn chips, taste funny, arent fluffy fresh or crisp... research

I lost my best friend (41 years) last year, which has been very rough, but my health has taken a bit of a hit as well since then. To make matters worse, I became a fall risk with banged up ribs, which doesn't seem to be helpful. We all need to watch our health more closely when we suffer these losses. Our animal friends are no exception, as we find one/another as caregivers.
