It was a scary time when Bon Scott died and we didn't know if AC/DC would continue. How could they without Bon? Well, it turns out Bon was a fan of Brian Johnson and had told the band that if anything happened to him, Brian should replace him. Which brings us to 1980's Back in Black album! A tribute to Bon, and a great album. The highest selling album for decades.
@saltydogz465714 күн бұрын
Amazing that Bon died in February of 1980, Brian met the band about a month later, and by July Back in Black was released. It became one of the greatest rock albums ever, and just weeks before no one could have guessed Brian Johnson would be the lead singer after such a tragedy. Just a legendary moment in rock history.

I went down the list of AC/DC songs the other night to count up what I thought were "hits". Songs that I knew off the top of my head as having as being ones that were more than a deep cut track. I counted 42. That about a hit a year, for every year they've been out there basically. That's a huge volume of hits. Most came years ago, but still, that's more than they could ever play in a concert if they only played their hits. When I first heard them as a kid in the late 70s I said.... that's it, that's rock. I still hold that position. I said then as just a kid I'd be listening to them forever, and here I am, still listening to them.

You need to react to one of the earliest - 70's band on the back of a truck going down one of Melbourne's main streets - Their first real big hit 'It's a long way to the top if you wanna Rock n Roll' - it is so worth watching - an old video but it is legendary. We were so lucky growing up in Australia - I was 14 when they formed in 73 and we had the best rock bands - what we called 'Pub Rock' - I love AC/DC but they are 2nd for me - about the same time line was 'Cold Chisel' with Jimmy Barnes they were my personal no: 1 - There is a rock voice with range !!

Love your reaction. While it may not be 100 % authentic, I say it is. Why ? Because this song -- and countless others from this iconic time period of popular music [ classic rock, more specifically ] were ... ARE ... that stinkin' good . We -- those like me who were young during the 60's, 70's and 80's -- reacted just as you did here . We were freaking out over what we heard on the radio, and then on our turntables and reel-to-reels and 8-Tracks. Mouths agape. Hearts pounding. Air guitars wailing. Voices [ as poor as they may have been ] singing. And car windows nearly bursting . Neighbors complaining. Or rockin' out along with us. The 70's were especially amazing. My teens were spent completely in this incomparable decade. I was buying album after album of this incredible music. Eventually listening on some Bose headphones. Being transported to another space and time. Many RVC hosts echo your exclamation : How did I miss this stuff? Fortunate for you, all of the good stuff from a while ago has been recorded. Continue your dive into the magical world of classic rock. There is lots of it out there. And by "classic rock," I mean R&R along with POP Music, Soft Rock, Disco, Prog, etc. It was and still is all good. May your channel continue to grow and grow, and ... keep on r'actin .

After the unexpected death of AC/DC singer Bon Scott in early 1980, the band members were in shock and were not sure AC/DC would continue... However, Bon's parents told them the carry on w/ the band, so they opted to audition new singers in the UK. Brian Johnson made the cut, a singer who had fronted the UK band Geordie ... They loved his voice ... He had a great attitude... They just had to complete a new record w/ him (which they had already written music for) Working in the Bahamas in a recording studio, AC/DC had one goal - a rock record that would be dedicated to the memory and spirit of the late Bon Scott... but it would be a typical AC/DC record - songs about sex, booze and good time rock n' roll. 'Back in Black' ... was a riff that rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young wrote and the lyrics reflected the good times they remembered w/ Bon Scott... The album cover was all black because the band was in mourning; they wanted the music to speak. Introducing a new singer Brian Johnson on tour in 1980 to promote 'Back in Black' (the album) kept AC/DC on the road for months playing gig after gig in Europe... then, N. America... and the record started to sell in huge numbers and exceeded all expectations. 12 million copies were sold within a year in the US alone (25 million to date) ... and AC/DC made their first trip to Asia and capped off the tour in 1981 w/ a massive tour of their native Australia, where they hadn't played since 1976. 'Back in Black' is one of the top 5 selling records of all time worldwide and still brings in new fans for AC/DC... Other key songs from this album - 'You shook me all night long'... 'Hells Bells' ... 'Shoot to thrill' ... ''Rock and roll ain't noise pollution" ... 'What do you do for money, honey' ...
