@@Kr4ShSkeL that's because the character/personality of rey mysterio is and looks cool. The in ring work just has to be passable and is the icing on the cake. My only issue with modern wrestling is wwe and aew/indys go to far in either direction. Wwe does get way to talky and not enough wrestling but aew goes in the other direction where all that matters is having 20 minutes matches. Theres a reason football, basketball, UFC push the big personalities because thats what draws people to watch the show. Look what happened to boxing now that most of the boxers are good boxers but no personality. Yeah the fights are good but you need the personality like a mayweather to draw numbers.

For me, except for his oratory skills, MJF has very little in common with The Rock, as someone who grew up in the Attitude Era. The Rock was so obviously a character and would break that character frequently when not on USA Network, even in the early days. MJF has more in common with Ric Flair and some of the other wrestlers in the old NWA and JCP who never broke character and were believable or even Brian Pillman Sr. MJF no-showing an autograph signing is as old school as you can get when it comes to wrestling. Someone didn't tell Max that Kayfabe is dead. He's the only one in wrestling who seems to get it. He realizes that nobody is going to convince someone who isn't a complete mark that wrestling isn't a work. What he can do is try to convince you that he himself, MJF, isn't working you, even when he is. The Rock never, ever did that. He'd cut in and out of character constantly in interviews. Max Friedman has done his homework. He starts his interviews by telling you things you know are true, and then he slips in a little of the work, little by little, until before you know it, you've been completely worked and you don't know what's real and what isn't. The Rock basically let you know he was playing a character, but he was good enough on the mic that for his target audience, it worked. MJF is a different kind of wrestler, a more traditional kind of wrestler.
