The manual vending machine at the end is something that used to exist in Europe as well. Nowadays, most countries have abandoned it, but in the Netherslands it still exits. There it's a common thing to say to grab a croquette out of the wall, or "Een kroketje uit de muur halen".

By the way you can find money underneath and by many vending machines there because so many people use them also coins are used a lot more than paper money so it’s easier to lose it. I used to find at least five dollars worth of coins under and near vending machines in Japan.

Actually trash cans are always next to convenience store and vending machine because its rude to eat and walk in japan its more sociallu acceptable to eat next to the vending machine and throw away gArbage before leaving that way no meed to carry garbage around

correct however ive been here a month now and not every vending machine does have a trash can by it lol! A lot do but for example the banana one didn't so i had to bring it with me home! Its not a big deal, I was just noting it for people who don't really know those kinds of things :)
