Two Bay Area drive-time DJs (radio personalities back when we had them!) that were the best to listen to: Dr. Don Rose. He was the KING. And Jane Dornacker. Priceless. Inimitable. So sad that they both have passed on. Top-40 radio will never be like that again. RIP.

Thanks so much for posting this. I grew up in San Jose and always looked forward to listening to Dr. Don on the bus on the way to school. Fast forward to now, I’ve been in radio for almost 36 years and am starting to plan for retirement. KFRC was and still is a legendary radio station. You kind of knew when you were listening that you were listening to something so special that it couldn’t possibly be repeated again in history. To this day, I still think this was, in its heyday, the best radio station and the best collection of jocks on the planet. Rose, Ocean, The Duke, and the rest were simply putting on a masterclass for budding broadcasters. Nobody has done it better since.

I used to listen to the doctor. Rose when I was a young boy and he would really make me laugh in the morning, but the one thing that cracks me up the most is when he would say the weather temperature is in furious cities around the bay area in Sacramento like when he called San Rafael Saint Raquel and Sacramento Sacratomato! I remember him broadcasting from his house after he had been in a skiing accident and broke his leg. He was laid up for weeks and that's how he didn't show that way in the mornings from his home! I still miss his voice but it still will resonate throughout the entire community in the bay area for many years!

Two of the best in the business on a station that was the best in the business. I grew up with DDR and KFRC every weekday morning. Things like that will never happen again. RIP Dr. Rose.

I was a listener to Dr. Don Rose when he was with WFIL in Philly in the 1960s. Those were great days in radio! Loved that DJs played all kinds of music. No specialty stations back then!

I moved from the Bay Area to Vancouver in 1975. At that time, the Dr. Don of Vancouver was a guy named Bryan "Frosty" Forst. Frosty absolutely owned the Vancouver market for decades, but I could never understand why because he wasn't 1/10th of 1% of the broadcaster Dr. Don was. Frosty is still alive even though he retired years ago and his old station, CKNW, has plummeted in the ratings. I miss the 1970s. :=(

Your "genius" was Walter Sabo. Why anyone in radio listens to that crackpot completely eludes me.

KFRC was on AM and music radio was moving to FM. Ownership by RKO General with their FCC problems didn't help either. Still, they stuck it out longer than most AM music stations.

Called Bobby Ocean once just to ask a question and he said to send him a money order for $45. WTF? I know he thought he was being funny but come on....
