Jack Armstrong was smokin' on the night shift on KFRC. He would later head back to Los Angeles. Full video available from California Aircheck on Video #2 www.californiaaircheck.com

There's an art to this, nailing the timing just right, the voice all of it.

You actually kind of get into a rhythm. It’s not as easy as it looks.

Wow what a set of pipes. That’s how radio used to be done.

Yes certainly was here in australia our radio is boring a lot of no talent unfunny x wannabe comedians absolute crap all our great announcers have retired I really miss the style like Jack Armstrong that rapid fire machine-gun announcing it takes a lot of practice to be able to speak fast but be articulate and clear love it

Walks to the post like its a walk in the park, what a talent. He was in Charlotte NC at 610, as John Larsh in the mid 60s.

The big 610 was still a well oiled machine in 1983. One of the last of the legendary AM Top40s!!

Back when radio was exciting to listen to.

I used to listen to Jackson on Ten-Q in Los Angeles. Most listeners aren't aware of the elements that make a station sound exciting and energized but when they all come together they hear good positive FUN. Jackson Armstrong is shown practicing an art with absolute precision. I loved hearing him on the air and thinking, "Wish I had a fraction of his talent!" He made this radio personality (me) love the medium even more. I miss him, gone way too soon.

In 1981, Jack Armstrong hosted Popclips on Nickelodeon, which was the testing ground for when MTV first came to be on August 1st, 1981.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! What a lost art this is now.

it's lost because the consultants tell everyone on air these days to be themselves and that people want to hear real humans....not real personalities.

I was a DJ the same year in Corpus Christi C-101, if you only knew what happens in the studio in the middle of the night

I dunno if he reeled in his patter at this stage of his career, but a few years earlier, Jackson Armstrong was considered the fastest-talking jock in radio. There's a great example on KZbin, "WKBW War of the Worlds 1972."
