Martindale was an exceptionally talented DJ, who was frequently seen on national game shows. Truly one of the L.A. greats.

I actually had my first release, "Big Man In Town", played on this station in 1965. What a thrill ! I was pick of the week ! It was just like the movie, "That Thing You Do" ! Great time in my life.

I served with GENE WEED on the Board of Directors of the Academy of Country Music in LA in 1991 to 93. He was also a producer on the Dick Clark staff that produced the ACM awards show.

Very cool! I see Larry McCormick on the roster around 2:00. I always knew him as a KTLA-TV 5 reporter but I never knew he was a radio DJ!

I wonder how Wink thought those honks and beeps were going to hold up against what he was hearing from KHJ.

Eliminating the "clutter" was Bill Drake's major contribution to radio. The other elements on KFWB were highly entertaining.

Treasured air check here. On a different note, the Fabulous Forty Survey for January 5, 1963 (shown at 2:15 ) is markedly different than what New York’s WABC, WMCA or WINS were playing then. I guess 3,000 miles makes a difference!
