It is near impossible to get out of homelessness by yourself. Had I not had the support of my family in my worst days, I do not believe I would have survived. I am still fighting everyday to keep my head above water and remain positive.

You are fortunate to have family to assist you, and I'm sure you help out, too. You must be a lovable person to be invited to live with family, and loved in return. Family is more valuable than gold, a priceless treasure. So many haven't family that wants to assist them, whether drugs or mental illness, personality clashes... I'm happy that your family has stepped up to help!

I lived in Portland for 15 years. When my apartment flooded, I spent a year couch surfing with a toddler. I had a good job, but could not find affordable housing. The spike in rent was criminal, due to a huge influx of people moving to Portland, (many from California.) My point is, don't judge. I had the love and charity of friends to rely on. Many people are not so lucky. Homelessness encompasses so many issues that our government does not want to face. "Get a job" is such an ignorant statement which only serves to undermine the complexity of the issue. Be compassionate. My love and prayers go out to those living on the streets 🙏💓💓💓

I work for the city cleaning those camps every day. They didn't mention that over 80% of the campers you see with tents are drug addicts. This is a drug problem not a housing problem. There is housing for couples and housing for people with dogs. Shelter beds go unfilled every day. These folks will not go to shelters because the shelters and housing organizations require them to be sober. We pull over 500 TONS of garbage PER MONTH out of the city from camps! One company alone! Thousands of needles too! Every day I find stolen property, some with the security tags left right on them. They are people but they need to be looked at for what they are. Drug addicts needing to support their habits by any means. I can say I understand because I've been to the depths of hell myself, but I woke up and got help. They can't be helped because they don't want help. How can you fix a problem that doesn't want to be fixed?

If he was legitimately disabled and paid into ssi he would recieve ssdi. So basically your dad enjoys others financially supporting him. I'm sorry your father is a deadbeat.

Steven Lundgrin Rent is too expensive. Jobs are scarce and is being replaced by robots and immigrants. Labor is being outsourced. Climate change is destroying homes and making rent more expensive. You'll see an economic crash this year or in 2020. A revolution will likely happen before 2030. All the indicators are flashing red for a French style revolution. Deregulation, high debt from war, environmental problems and increasing income inequality caused the French Revolution. The Age of revolution happened 30 years after the Industrial Revolution. @Frankie Flannery The thing that makes it even worse is illegals since they are ghost on paper and use stolen identities. They can get welfare benifets and work a job at the same time. That's why they bring their kids with them it use to be just single men that would cross the border. Also with the increase of people coming in rent prices sky rocket. Making it worse on poor Americans. Illegal immigration hurts Americans that are poor the worst because they can't scam the welfare system like illegals.

I volunteer as a street level outreach worker for many years and times throughout my life. As a runaway youth who lived on the streets of Canadian cities from coast to coast and as far north as Yellowknife NWT...this is what I know to be true and I have learned as a volunteer Most people who live on the street are addicted to something yet the addiction is often secondary- a side effect of being homeless , feeling hopelessness and someone ( usually for their own twisted reasons ) introduces you drugs and or alcohol to bury the pain, stay warm, maybe to stay alert or awake when sleeping isn't safe etc. At this point feeling numb is a blessing for most people. What would you do if you lost everything after loosing your house to the bank? Rejoice? I doubt it. Drugs and a drink might sound good to some who are otherwise strong. Then there are those who chose living on the street as a way of life but they play the pity card to get free hand outs to continue drinking daily. These people are angry and feel society owes them a free ride, a welfare cheque, a cheap house and all with no effort on their part. Like locusts they travel from one town to the next across Canada and even the USA looking for the places with the best handouts, posting online to their community and they swarm in.....they call themselves the tribe. There are those with mental health issues and have fallen through the cracks when our mental health programs in Canada and USA were reduced to nothing and these people were pushed into the community with no long term plan for care or even housing. They are under medicated and often thrown in jail when all other forms of control like meds are exhausted The last group of people I met on the street while I was a runaway. These are the people who are in hiding from someone or something. They do not want to be found and so they lie about their name, who they are, their past etc. So not to be found they do not work, apply for housing, go to hospital when sick...some have warrants and are avoiding prison...they may be dangerous

@jenanjuice2003
@jenanjuice2003 4 жыл бұрын
meg grotte, many times it’s because of a mix of things. Drugs and alcohol are a side effect. I would say that most of the people that I encountered either had mental problems, disabled, addicted, or just couldn’t work due to the way that they looked or acted. Once you are in that cycle, no one wants to hire you. For me, I wasn’t able to find work during the recession, I wanted to go to school but had no money. I ended up in the hospital after passing out and being mugged. My family was unstable. So, it was easier and more economical to live in a tent. I saved bottles and cans for money, sometimes up to 80 bucks a day. I lived behind a Wendy’s by some railroad tracks and got a job there. Saved enough money to fly to Hawaii. Gardened for money. Then eventually moved to Alaska to live in a fishing cannery. The best program for me was one that gave me a shower and an address to put on applications. They also provided me with work clothes. Many people just want to be able to work and save money. If you work and can’t save, you become hopeless. Drugs and alcohol help escape reality. Then the cycle continues. It’s very hard to quit when you are on the street because it brings you warmth and helps you sleep.

I'm a college graduate I graduated in 2003 a major was cross-cultural communication with a minor in Bible and a minor in Tesol. I'm actually a self-supported missionary and my Ministry is literally helping people financially. This is how I feel the love of Jesus I do other things as well. When I was 13 I started to feel extremely I thought it was normal because I had been a teenager at the time. But sadly life happens in the ages of 9 to 13 or somewhat blocked out. I would say a good chunk of my life is sort of blocked out. Even in the midst of great suffering the best thing my mom did for us was take us to church. We wear white living in the inner city and my grandmother told us to go to church she told my mom to take us and we did. As a Christian Missionary I have literally pray for people who are addicted to drugs that are injected. I even prayed for them in the name of Jesus without them asking and they were delivered from their demons. I have seen the power of Jesus and completely understand that there is a demonic you're going on between God's angels and demons. I'm now 40 I'm still single but one day mr. right will come but until then I will continue to do what Jesus asked which must have loved the people in Taiwan. I work with the homeless God will tell me who to feed her to serve as I'm driving. When I first came to Taiwan I could really feel the demonic warfare when I entered the country in the city that I was in. Who is the nurse you might be thinking I've got psychological problems but I really don't. I've had eight years of counseling. Not to mention inner healing and deliverance which really does work by the way. Anyways if you'd like to talk more I'd be happy to talk with you find me on messenger. The one thing I can say is Jesus gives you courage I have confronted things that most people would run away from. It is all because of the blood of Jesus that I have courage to do what he has asked. I will continue to pray for you that you are protected and please know that when I pray God answers the prayers I pray he does that for anybody who prays to him. Jesus said if you call upon me I will answer and respond. Please know that you'll always have someone praying for you and that will never be back in the situation you had to overcome. But I can tell you is that Jesus never causes the bad things that Satan and his demons. Of course we have free will to do what's right. But please know that I'm sure there are things in your life that you had no control over but I promise you God has raised you up so you may fight the darkness that is in this world through the power of God. If you'd like to know more please find me on Facebook just type in Meg grotte. The best time to call me is when I'm sleeping just typing what time is it in Taiwan and I really be happy to talk with you. Mom did the best she could she works and we grew up on welfare it was through the support of our church that honestly we had good holidays and that we did not wind up homeless ourselves. I did have a friend from Biola University who grew up homeless. And she eventually got her PhD I forget in what but she's done amazing things because of Jesus in her life. Thankfully many years ago our family was able to get a home from Habitat for Humanity I would be really interested to talk with you about families that are homeless because I know that there are many groups that are trying to build tiny homes for the homeless and to start communities. But I find that because of the Democrats and Congress it's very difficult to get these things implemented even though they're very successful and small rural area. Homelessness in any country is dear to my heart mainly because I had a friend who was homeless for 2 years. Sadly he suffers from Lyme disease, metal poisoning, PTSD and fibromyalgia. He's got some kind of sensitivity to electromagnetic fields as well. I keep encouraging him to call me because I prayed for so many people to be delivered. He is not possessed because he is a follower of Jesus but oppression is different it's one of demon is assigned to oppress you to the point where your will is broken and you eventually give up. I have experienced this in my own life for most of my life and if it really did help me to deal with people who are possessed there's something about drugs alcohol some people are more sensitive when evil happens whether they're forced to do it or they do it without realizing but spiritually it's like opening up a door to the demonic. I know this sounds crazy but talk to police officers who work with people that are supposedly on meth or anything like that. Ask him about the Satan worshipers that are in America and the which is better practicing. In our country we ignore the spiritual realm but living in Taiwan man I have seen things that would make your mouth drop wide open. It is all connected physical emotional mental and spiritual. You're on the front lines and this is why I say I will pray for you more. I don't even know if you're a Christian I don't usually share like this but I want to give you a challenge go check out Jesus for about 6 months. Go to a church make sure they're not a pseudo Christian cult. Tell the person that you're looking for a church that is biblically centered but I also understand spiritual warfare. Tell them that you're not a Believer and you want to specifically understand the life of Jesus and to understand what demonic warfare is. To understand who Sataan is and why the world is so screwed up. If you know the enemy you can be a more effective nurse but if you know the Savior that you can overcome any darkness that walks into your hospital just start with Jesus and if you have any questions related to any Christian bias that may have been spread through the stupid media please feel free to write me and I will have to leave respond or give you a voice message through MessI have studied every world religion in my life I have been oppressed demonically in ways you can imagine but I also know this because we went to church my family did not become a statistic we have never done drugs, alcohAnd to be honest we've have never been in jail or had children out of wedlock . My brother has four children he is happily married he has he's a good husband and father my sister's happily married and she's in the Navy and has a wonderful life. My other brother he's doing well but he's a little bit more worldly but many years ago I was watching The Simpsons and God told me that Mike and my dad would be fine this was about 10 years ago oh one more thing even if you never decide that you want to follow Jesus I would still be happy to be your friend. The reason I share all this is because you have a kind heart and you know what it's like to go through hell because you've lived through ii. God's kingdom of good is real and it is on Earth but Satan's kingdom of evil is also on Earth and this is not permanent one day Satan will be put in hell where he belongs along with all his evil henchman and along with every person who has not repented and only commits evil. And I'm sure you know what I'm talking about the child abusers the murderers. I am no better than them I only can say that when I die and stand before God it's because of the blood of Jesus That Forgives my sins. Jesus saves and Jesus gives new lives if we're willing to take it. Oh and on a side note animals go to heaven. Hopefully we can become friends

Yea, to the 5 top states that are in this condition the worst = California, Washington, Oregon, New York, New Jersey. Guess what, those top 5 are all hard core Democrat states --- see what happens when Democrats run your state. Amazing too, Calif and New York, they are the top 2 states that tax their citizens the most and they are the top two of the entire nation that are the deepest in debt !!! Something wrong with this picture and its at the top -- the states Democrat politicians ripping off the people, lying, stealing, embezzling...Yet these same Democrats want to provide everything free to everyone in the world, you know, any and all illegal immagrants. And who is going to pay for all that, they expect the rest of the country to via Federal monies - in other words, tax the rest of the country and run it into the ground like they have their own state ! Open borders, when you have that you no longer have a country. We can't supply, feed, give medical, housing to all the world its that simple and THAT is what will happen with wide open borders.

Jo Je I feel so sorry for you. How sad. Your life must be to need to randomly attack and name call people in the comments to make your self feel important. Also I’m sure it’s easier to tell yourself every homeless single person in America is homeless because of drugs instead of seeing the real Complexity of the situation. Plus than you don’t have to face that it could happen to you. I’m a brain tumor survivor and surviving that experience has given me a lot compassion and understanding toward the struggling of others.

Compassion and understanding is great. And sorely lacking in this country. But I have been homeless. I have been out there. And he is correct in that a good portion is from drugs and alcohol. @msoda8516
@msoda8516 5 жыл бұрын
Debbie Potter There are also plenty of rich people that use and abuse drugs and alcohol. Look at the current opioid crisis most of those people were hooked of drugs given to them by doctors. Also saying 95% is a super high number. Another thing is mental illness often plays a roll in homelessness. I’m sorry but no human should be thrown away like trash. I’m a brain tumor survivor and it’s led me to see life is short and we are a just a few bad breaks from ruin. I have a lot of compassion because not everyone has a good support system when it comes to dealing with life. I was in an abusive marriage and beat a brain tumor without my family and friends I would have been on the street.

It’s almost as if they’re getting compensated in some way for being out here. They always seem to have gift cards and dope. Also I never understood how some of these homeless can become hoarders out here on the street. Doesn’t it get tiring having to move all of your belongings and trash on a weekly, if not daily basis? I have a sleeping bag, a back pack with a couple coats inside, my phone and earbuds. I do have a job at the moment. Gonna save up money to purchase a 1 acre lot. I was homeless for years in the late 1980's. Lived in my pickup truck. Got tired of it and rejoined the world. Retired in Mexico. That said, my experience with homeless is most of it is lifestyle choice. Many complain that all their check would go to rent, yet 2 or oould pool their money and split the cost. They choose not to - and complain they can't because they don't do well with others, yet live with hundreds of others tent to tent in these "communities"? Many have addiction and other problems and dope and booze is a better way to spend their government money than living like a human would. Evolution has gone backwards for them. I don't mean this all in a bad way, just what I have seen with my own eyes and own experience.

What I observe is predators go where the majority are the most vulnerable.. the most vulnerable no matter what level of society, can be the least functional which is why they are in a system whether it is in CPS, with a social worker or in a tent city. The majority of FUNCTIONAL people with self esteem have abandoned the rest of society when things started breaking down in the 1990s ...We are at the mercy of increasingly malignant narcissists that seem to be reproducing at a rapid rate.. the more we abandon transitional Biblical morality, the more toxic the world becomes it seems to me.

Watching this brought back horrible memories of the 3 years I went from one place to another so I didn't have to sleep outside. In my case I lived in a beautiful home on 2 acres of land the well was contaminated when we complained and nothing was done we withheld the rent. The owner, rather than fix the well decided to evict us. We went to Maryland for 2 years and my significant other was diagnosed with terminal COPD and 14% lung function, so, we came home. He and went to his moms with his son and I went to a friend. That was the beginning of the horror of being homeless. I hope no one thinks anyone enjoys not having a place to go that is yours. As you pointed out a lot of people have mental health issues, and if you don't you will after any amount of time being homeless. I ended up in a battered women's shelter and just knowing I at least had a bed to sleep in gave me the chance to regroup and make a plan. Lack of food, sleep, and a calm environment is not conducive to thinking straight. I didn't give up, but I have an insane drive to do what needs to be done on my own. I am not the norm. I can't stress this enough, one sickness,broken car,or job loss could result in you being homeless, so before you judge think. I am no longer homeless but it is always in the back of my head, it's the thing I fear the most above even death. Actually If I was to become homeless I would rather die.

I tried to do the right things in life. My husband and I were both military when I lost everything. My brother died traumatically in 2012 three weeks later I got the message my husband was dead. I couldn’t handle it and did the only thing I knew, put my uniform on and kept going. Rapid deployments left me physically and mentally broken. The military pays me a few grand a month for my dead husband and my line of duty injury. My parents went into isolation after the deaths. They haven’t contacted me in months. I’ve isolated completely in a crappy duplex with my two senior Dogs, terrified of losing them. Money means absolutely nothing when you’re soul is dead. I pay my bills when I can get out of bed, usually couple months late bc I don’t care. I don’t talk to anyone but if I hear of an animal or disabled person in need, I donate. I’ve begged the VA for some support or someone to talk to “there are no resources” for a surviving spouse and/or 100% disabled PTSD female vet. If I knew how to get well, I’d tell the military to keep their money. I just need help, all my friends are dead from combat or suicide. I’m a 40 year old college graduate who served 10 years. I just want the pain to stop.

Cities could also build fairly basic structures that don't have conditions on them that would allow people to get off of the street and in some kind of shelter. I think part what keeps homeless from going to shelters are the conditions that they put on being admitted. We would still have all of the issues and disfunction but it would at least be housed.

Umm, after a long long career in Banking/Mortgage/property development But I guess you know best? The costs of building a low range home are too high, so why would a developer build a home that costs 150K and profit 20K? They are building 400K+ homes that show a profit at much much higher rates of return I retired 7 years back at 52.. over 28 years dealing with these issues.. ' Cutting costs from the regulators will absolutely help in low to middle-income home pricing. More homes built=lower priced homes and more housing built. Interest rates have been historically low, lower than when I dealt with them daily. Artificially low by the way! There are 1000s of other factors involved, but you do you! Suck it up buttercup

$10/hour jobs and no unions or laws to protect the working class. Makes no difference about political party. Groceries are way overpriced and it shows that those stores are making huge profits as there are 3 stores within 5 miles of each other. This country is so greedy. Why doesn't the city set aside a large amount of land for the homeless and set it up like a campground? They could assign lots to anyone interested in staying and the homeless wouldn't have to worry about being moved. This, in turn, would satisfy homeowners who wouldn't have to deal with the homeless trashing their neighborhood. They could install toilets, showers and taps and the police could monitor the area once in awhile instead of patrolling the parks and streets constantly. Anyone in violation of the rules set forth would be removed. I know this wouldn't solve the problem of homelessness, but it might help clean up the streets a little. Someone must have thought of this already, so what am I missing?

Even if i am far away in germany, i know the answer. The problem is the same all over the world. The land does not belong to the city....it is simple. They are not allowed to put up social housing. Even in germany they destroyed the social housing ince decades. Who is them? Investors of course. They own everyting togehter with the churches. They want profit. They will not give away land for free or to help. You, the people, you have to gather in big groups to buy estates and rent them out.. This is the only solution. Like in life, you have to help yourself. And in this case, we have to help ourselves by buying the estates back.

I keep hearing people complain about the tent cities AND that people don't "want to work". There are companies that are known to be the best to work for and THEY HAVE WAIT LISTS. If a company treats its employees well and if there was good housing close by, a majority would fill those jobs. Thing is the housing if there is any, is overpriced and a slum. The jobs expect people to suffocate and get a jab ALONG with the previous bad working conditions that plagues the workplace that entry level employees don't have the energy to fight..

It’s not like it’s their fault and they *want* to be homeless, but think to yourself...what would YOU do if you were homeless ? Obviously rather live under a tent in a fellow tent community than out in the bare weather conditions cold wet and lonely. It’s just where they all gather and seek some sort of comfort. Really the only thing that separates them from any other human is where they sleep at night. Yes some of these people also struggle with addictions or mental health issues, however that happens just as much with the non homeless. It’s really sad. I am literally one tragedy or choice away from being these people and I am so grateful for my family who supports me even at my age. So eternally grateful. *God bless everyone* and I am sending them my happy vibes❤️

WE, the people, habe to set up the rents and we will take care of a stable rent. Start to learn investing your money DIRECTLY, without banks or investmentfonds or shares. Do not give away your money to banks! I know it is a long way, but this is the only way. We have to connect us via blockchain and code a software that enables us all to invest.
