This man. Officer Jackson is one of my personal heroes. When me and my family were homeless he stopped checking on us and out of his own pocket he bought us breakfast. He drove to McDonald's and came back then went back to his precinct and got my daughter a toy. When I got back on my feet he continued to check on us and would stop and pull over and talk to us. When he found out where we were staying ( a hotel ) he would occasionally drive through and shake my hand . He is one of Portland's best heroes. And he deserves a serious commendation. I love you Officer Jackson. If I could take a bullet for YOU I would.

Correct me of I am wrong, but to the best of my knowledge there are two types of people that become cops. (1) Is like this guy, he is here because he want to make a difference, more of a superhero mind set and (2) people that can't get into college after high school and got no options and in some way, just want to be a big bully. And people in the second category, when they become cops, they are the ones that goes around doing bad things and giving cops a bad name. (It is just my theory, because in high school we had a lot of kids that wanted to be cops, including myself, but it become kind of you need to choose between been a cop or going to college and in the end all the kids choice college. And those that actually become cops were all the dumb and trouble maker type kids in school. As for the kids that wanted to become cops but got into college, I image some might at some stage of their life, make the career change to become cops, but I image most...once you go down a path, it is unlikely most people would make that major change again. So, I am just guessing there are two types of cops out there.)
@Young-vu6cc4 жыл бұрын
@@peteryang8991 well it's not exactly correlated with people that cant get into college, there are probably a lot of cases of people who couldn't get into college joined the police force, however, not all of these people are bad people. Some might be good people whos first career options were not necessarily being a cop, considering that the pay is mediocre at best and it can be very dangerous at times. Most bad cops are simply people who want to be in a position of power and feel like they have some form of authority over other people.
@peteryang89914 жыл бұрын
@@Young-vu6cc I agree there are people who join the police force because they want to be a big bully. But I don't think they are able to last long, because not all people are good decent citizens, those cops are at some stage going to be forced to go up against hardcore criminals and I don't think they can handle the stress, because they are not here, wanting to be a real life super hero. So, I think these people are more likely to quit, but, if they manage to survive to a position of authority, that is going to be a problem, for example there is a case in Baltimore where a task force plant drug on people and then arrest them for drug offenses.

@@peteryang8991 Even though I disagree with some of the points you made I respect the nuance you have while approaching this topic. A lot of people seem to forget that most problems in this world are complicated and require nuance thought. To one of your points about Police officers sometimes being uneducated, while this is sometimes true, many departments around where I live actually require a college education. Or at the very least 5 years of training, although statistically you are more likely to get the job if you have a degree.
@peteryang89914 жыл бұрын
@@WCHvids Places where cops need to have a college degree, their standard is generally higher. The problem is, there is not a set standard for all police officers. Even if all the standard of training is the same. Think of it this way, if you are a college graduate, are you more likely to be willing to join a police force that take anybody or a police force that require a college degree, even if the training is exact the same. But the thing is, some police force the standard is simply really low and are taking in college rejects a lot use to be for example kids that bash up other kids for lunch money in high school, those police force are going to be easily corrupt.

It's impossible to summarize a persons political/world view with a single word. It doesn't matter what you call yourself and don't feel like you have to put forth 19 disclaimers and immediately defend your position to whoever you're talking to. Just figure out a simple way to explain your position (I use the socially liberal but fiscally conservative thing. It works for me). Once you understand your opinions well enough and you're able to effectively do that, you will know where you are on the political compose. Also, what you said about Trump is true to some degree but just remember, voting for someone can be an endorsement of them or a condemnation of another. The "outsider" theme is a common tactic the state uses to dissapate a movement by trying to divide it. I've seen it with my own eye during the protests in Oakland after Oscar Grant got murdered. It's the same thing.
@whatabouttheearth3 жыл бұрын
Stated narrative: a group of white outsiders are messing up your (black peoples and locals) communities, and this is reinforced by the officers conversations with some random black folks. Effect: the movement should turn on itself through racial lines and everyone should be suspicious because these people aren't us (the local community and/or people of color). The effect is to dissipate a larger movement through causing division to reenforce and promote chosen complient elements of the national movement, leading to cooption. Truth: it is locals of all colors and walks of life who are pist of a long series of injustices at the hands of state agents and they understand that without the militant element no non violent or more peaceful element of a movement prevails.

As a moderate myself I would argue thst the left has become much more extreme than the right. This is what I believe allowed someone like Trump to become president. Deep down a lot of people realized just how extreme the left is becoming and panicked and went with the non PC rough and brash option. Most journalism in the US today could hardly even be called journalism. It is a bunch of "woke" people who don't really report the truth but instead report on things that drive their own narrative, which is just wrong. For as much as everyone likes to call Trump a racist Biden has literally said you're not black if you don't vote for me, etc. I do agree that extremism is wrong, but we almost had a socialist presidential candidate twice and that should show just how far left modern democrats are becoming which is a scary thing.

@@tonysiouxfan The left may be extreme but you realize the right has literal nazi's, right?
@tonysiouxfan4 жыл бұрын
@@joshholland90 No, you are describing the alt right. Neo Nazis make up a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of what would be considered the right. Neo Nazis have next to no political or social power and are openly condemned by 99.9% of people, so it really doesn't hold much weight. Whereas a socialist like Bernie Sanders would have been considered a left outlier only 20 years ago is now able to make legitimate runs for the presidential office. That's the key difference. More radical elements of the left that would have been completely rejected only a couple of decades ago are now gaining mainstream prominence. Look at BLM the organization, one of the key founders is a self proclaimed marxist who "trains my followers to become Marxists." This isn't some fringe social activist element either, BLM is gaining national prominence despite the organization holding some very radical and quite frankly dangerous ideas. The left has a strong hold on most media, journalism, and academia. While this in and of itself isn't necessarily bad, it does become bad when it becomes shifted more and more to the far left. Most major journalism pieces today don't even read like objective journalism, they read like activist pieces. We are getting to the point where most major journalism outlets aren't so much interested in reporting objective truth, but rather in reporting their own truth to push a narrative. I mean look at the harpers letter condemning cancel culture. People act like it isn't a real thing, yet if you search it online it's filled with a bunch of "journalists" attempting to cancel said letter. Even funnier is some of the signees withdrew their names over fear of being canceled. You see this type of attitude today being propagated much more by the left than anyone on the right. It's getting to the point where there is no middle ground, you either agree with what the left has to say or you get publicly shamed and lambasted for all eternity. This is also evident by what happened to Drew Brees, who is a very strong philanthropist who has done many amazing things for his community. I don't think it's as small of a fraction as you are making it out to be. I agree with you about the media being trash but I don't think it has anything to do with it being left wing and has everything to do with them being corporate. Bernie may have been considered extreme in the US 20 years ago but that is because we don't have a true labor party in this country. We have two corporate parties. Bernie would be a run of the mill leftist in most other developed countries. The US is just skewed so far to the right politically that he seems radical.

Wouldn't your fellow cops, (if they're in the area) _want_ to be there for you, just in case things go sideways - which they have been known to do? I feel pretty confident that going forward the bad cops will no longer be allowed to slide. Not any more. There will be no tolerance for it going forward. There needs to be a cop presence. As a fan of history, this is not something new but the tactic is. Unlike the Bolshevik which gained massive attention because most people are in poverty, the identity politic is easily tackled because the majority of people are not into it. The majority knows there's racism but this is not a big deal, and the core issue (before we put racism into it) is far more important to discuss than racism itself. Racism will not let the country cure the core problem of the issue. It diverts the affected people's attention, it will never solve the problem. . Every time you see an article about racism, like the article published by the Smithsonian Museum about Whiteness, that's their effort to 'Divide and Conquer' among the people between different race/skin color. Once they succeed, the next step would be easy peasy. They have tried many different tactics to divide: poor vs rich, whites vs non-whites, educated vs uneducated, capitalism vs socialism (which's easily debunked), and so on. Recently, it looks like they've failed in the former and the last tactic, but the second tactic would be very worrying because the US has a long history of racism before the Right Civil Acts has come into force since the 1960s. As the white vs non-white is the part of identity politics, the best way to tackle it is just don't buy into the narrative and speak up without fear of being canceled. The only two obstacles you currently have are the MSM and biased social media companies.

@Penguin Queen It's so stupid. I'll give you an example. In Virginia there is a town named Lynchburg that people want to rename, despite them not even being from there. The town was named after its founder John Lynch (Who's Irish) who freed his own slaves during his lifetime and consistently supported the antislavery movement. The town he built being named after him is his only legacy, and people again, who arn't even FROM there, want to change the name. They don't realize that if they DO change the name, Liberty University (Sometimes called Trump university due to their acceptance of racists) will absolutely swoop in and take control of it to get the city named after them because Liberty holds an unreasonable amount of power for the town. So in short. People who arn't from there, want to change the name, unaware they're going to let a University ran by Jerry Fallwell Jr, who suggested the coronavirus is a plot to hurt Trump and would continue to hold in-person classes, take control of the place, while thinking they did a GOOD thing and pat themselves on the back. I hate to say it but, as a white person, I completely understand the expression "The audacity of the caucasity". And I can't stress this enough. The town, HATES, Liberty. Not just cause they deforested half the giant hill overlooking the main hub of the city and slapped their initials on it for you to see from miles away. Not just cause they decided to make the tallest structure in the town by building a massive tower in the middle of the main hub. Not just cause they have a weather alert system that goes off everytime it rains to command everyone to stay indoors. But because Jerry Fallwell is a power hungry asshole who tries to swing his dick around like he's head of the FBI or something. Oh and he's a massive evangelist Christian who strongly believes that the only way to get into heaven is through them. There's a joke that circulated cause of it. It goes like this "A man dies and goes up to heaven. There he meets an angel who shows him around. They come across a stadium and there's people playing sports. The man asks, who are they? The angel replies. Those are the athletes who loved sports. They move on and they find people in a field painting. The man asks, who are they? The angel replies. Those are the artists who loved to paint. Eventually they come to a closed door. Inside are people sitting around a table in the dark, not speaking, and looking scared. The man asks, who are they? The angel replies. Oh that's Liberty University and they think they're the only ones here."

I am a son of a Filipino immigrant (my mom is white), married to a Mexican, now part of a Mexican, black, white, and Filipino integrated family. That’s why every scenario must be examined exclusively and objectively. I got good family, but my wife and I used to joke (only cuz it was sad) how many people she knew and/or related to got arrested each weekend. I have noticed living here...coming from AZ....how much poor leadership we have here in Portland/Oregon. I have never seen such overwhelming enabling of tent cities/homeless populations, budgets prioritized for illegal citizens (vs vets/homeless), releasing criminals, enabling mob behavior, people so much caught up in feelings (vs facts), etc. I tell ya what...there’s a huge difference between a republican city/state vs a democratic city/state. It’s sad tho, cuz Portland is a beautiful city. They mindset for many is straight out of a college gender study class. And about getting rid of cops lol lol lol....I personally know people that will see this as an ‘opportunity’ to siege. White Liberals scared they are being outed and their grand scheme will be destroyed. The Democrats have been trying to destroy blacks for hundreds of years. When slavery and segregation failed LBJ came up with the brilliant idea, instead of slaving them to farming, we'll slave them to the government, and installed welfare. Give them a little, take a lot, and force them to need us, thats the new Democrat policy. Now the Democrats think we've got the blacks votes and they need us, so we can now take over their activism, push them into Socialism, and then once the US is a Socialists country then everyone will be a slave to the Democrats. If you think about it throughout American History the Democrats have found one way or another to imprison minorities, their brilliant plan though of using a little money, to take a lot of power, worked just as they planned.
