In Dangal the father was proud of his daughters but did not express it as he thought its better to be strict for them to learn. The daughters in the first song express how they disliked what he was making them do. But after the marriage scene where the bride tells her perspective regarding their father, only then the girls realise how right their father was. And the father expresses his love n pride in a different way (expresses it through his deeds than his words. He goes to all extent just to help his girls which he wouldn't have done if he did not love them so much and if was not proud of what they are. Just waits for the right time to express it) which in reality all our father does in the same way. The girls knows it and understands what he feels. But again for him to express it out loud they will have to earn it. In India there are many intricate things of different place class and religion thats you will understand only after a long time observation. The father character in dangal is one of the best any daughter can ask for coming from a place like that in Haryana that also around 15 to 20 years ago.

Basic Plotline: SRK is the adopted son of Amitabh before Hrithik is born (so they are step brothers) and Amitabh gets super pissy when SRK falls in love with a poor girl (Kajol).
