UPDATE: From a post by Home Of Fight on X: Frontier Airlines has issued a statement about Khabib being removed from his flight: "On Jan. 11, 2025, as flight 4401 from Las Vegas to San Francisco was preparing for departure, a flight attendant initiated the customary briefing for exit row passengers. Customer Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was seated in an exit row, was asked multiple times if he was willing and able to assist in the event of an emergency. According to the flight attendant, Mr. Nurmagomedov did not respond, despite repeated attempts, which placed him in non-compliance with FAA requirements. The flight attendant informed Mr. Nurmagomedov that he could be moved to a different upgraded seat or exit the plane. Videos circulating on social media platforms do not capture this interaction, and instead show a subsequent interaction after a gate agent entered the plane and reiterated the option to be reseated. As a result of the customer’s initial unresponsiveness and repeated declinations of a seat change, he was asked to deplane per airline and FAA policy. The statement is directly contradicted by the video. Khabib recounts the conversation on camera and even specifies that they asked him if he speaks English, to which he said 'yes'. The lady in the video, herself, deflects from the importance of his affirmation and instead says it comes down to the judgement of the flight attendants. In essence, she confirms that it's down to concerns beyond whether or not he was willing to comply or failed to affirm that he would help in an emergency. They have told their bosses he didn't comply to save themselves because its become clear that he was famous. Frankly, the individual employees should apologise publically.

It isn’t even a shame to be rich in islam as long as you know and thank God for it, pay your zakaat (taxes for the poor), and don’t show off. If Khabib wanted more comfort, there would be nothing against it from islamic view. However he has other priorities. He doesn’t spend the money for his own luxery but for his family and friends. He pays for the most camps, he pays for the tickets of his friends, he helps even fighters from other regions. That’s why he is absolutely world class. Islam makes a distinction in what is allowed and what is better to do. Using money for your comfort is allowed, but spending it on others is better!

I also believe that Frontier should not only apologize, but provide Khabib with compensation for moral damage. Nope... the airline is not allowed to take flight unless the person sitting next to the emergency door listens to the emergency door lesson and says they understand it. If they say "I don't understand" (which is what Khabib said), the staff must re-seat the person. She followed protocol to a T.

The coverage of this is all wrong. Airline staff are not allowed to start a flight unless the person sitting next to the emergency exit agrees that they understand the emergency exit protocol. Before each flight the person in the exit door seat is given a tutorial and is asked if they understand the instructions. If the person says they don't understand, airline staff are required to re-seat the person. Khabib said "I don't understand", and so they tried to re-seat him, but Khabib refused, so they told him he has to re-seat or he'll be removed.
