..Officially, There are 10 official ethnic groups with majority muslim population. Among them, Hui (Mandarin speaking, Han Muslims, Some claims ancestral connections to Persians/Arabs/Turks) , Uyghur(Turkic), Tajiks(Shi'a Followers, east Iranian Ethnic group), Kazhaks, Dong Gan ( Hui&Han Muslims speaking Dungan Language), etc..Not to mention Han Muslims(including converts).. Xin Jiang is actually not the only or highest in muslims population/ratio proportion. Ning Xia Hui Self-autonomous province (Hui muslims) has over half muslims populations (Hui muslims/Han Muslims). Gansu Province also has many Han muslims.

My grand mother was catholic but one year before she die she converted to islam and she already can read a qur'an.
