Khalid, The best biryani I had in UAE is at Al Saad Restaurant in Ras Al Khaimah. They have something called Matka Biryani and it's the greatest biryani I ever had. You should try it someday. 🙂

The truth is, what existed in Iran was a seasoned fried meatpiece rolled in Iranian flatbread , this dish was called beryan. You can search " Ishafahani Beryan", its still popular in Iran but has negligible resemblance to our biryani. The truth is that elements and cooking methods of this irani beryan mixed with an ancient indian rice dish during the medieval eras to form Biryani

Well, Yemeni Biryani comes from Indian. When the Brits occupied South Yemen (South Arabia) in the port city of Aden, they brought the Indians from Hyder Abbad. The East India company in 1839. And since then, we learned from them, and we made our own version of Biryani called Zurbian mixed with meat or chicken and has coloured rice (yellow/red/white). The South Yemeni flat bread is called Khobz and looks like the Indian Tandoori Parather (only on a large scale). Our flat bread is big. Our Chatney and Ashar (pickle lime) is out of this world. Oh not forgetting Samboosa, Bajiya, Khameer and much more. Our Sweets (Halwa) has the Indian ones as well as the traditional South Yemeni one. Plus we do Aseed which is wheat (look up Aseed) عصيده I love my South Arabian food but then am Biased

So very true! A Biryani is all about family's love, the commercial ones are made by chefs who do it as a job, but the home made Biryani on Yaum Jumu'a, Eid, family get togethers is all about family. In around 1988 I was once invited for Iftar at one of our workmates in Dubai. The family were from Kerela, South India and they put up a beautiful table for us with so many different dishes. And, the center dish was the Biryani, it was one of the best I ever had.

Shukran Khalid. As an ethnic Bengali (born/raised in the UK), biryani is my favourite cuisine - ever. The beauty is, there are so many varieties, you can "swim in biryani" (i.e., indulge yourself) forever and never get bored. Have you ever tried "Kacchi Biryani"? That's something else. In Dhaka, there's also Hajji Biryani which is lovely. I'll definitely swing by some of these places the next time I'm in the UAE.
