This is one of the best videos explaining Tourette's I've seen! A few things I'd like to point out though: *While a lot of people develop tics around the age of 6-7, there are loads of people who develop it in their teenage years (like age 13) as well. * A lot of people don't take medication because there's barely any without side effects * Very important: It's not that easy to hold in tics. As said we need to release it afterwards or do other tics instead, but notice holding in tics can be really painful and tiring for someone, so it's not like just holding it in. Have a good day! :-)

Please understand that while people with Tourette’s may be able to suppress their tics for a time it is highly ill advisable. Please never expect a person to do this. When a person suppresses their tics it takes a lot of focus and attention. It can be mentally and emotionally exhausting and the person cannot be present in the moment when they are suppressing. For example, if a child supresses in class they will perform more poorly and will have a harder time learning. Also a negative consequence to suppressing is that later when they stop suppressing, the tics come faster and more forceful and can cause harm to the person.

thank you. I've seen this multiple times actually when people reference behavioral or habit therapy. I am somewhat in the middle of the spectrum. my vocal tic is the worst and my motor tics are bad enough to injure but I wouldn't say my tics impact my life in a severely debilitating sense. however, I cannot suppress my motor tic. when I do, I kind of go into a frozen-like body locked position and I cannot focus on ANYTHING but the painful, unbreakable urge to release my tic. I cannot function if I don't release it. therefore, these kinds of therapies do not work on me and I would never suggest it to anyone at all on the spectrum on TS even IF they are considered minor. I really dislike this kind of notion that we, somehow, can "fix" our tics because it makes it seem like we are doing it on purpose. like, it's just something that can be totally cured if we just "try hard enough." that is a dangerous thing to suggest. people already think I have control over this crap and for professionals to back that is disheartening.

I grew up with the rage attack variety of Tourette's(also called Inflexible-Explosive Disorder)which was extremely frustrating. I hated that I threw temper tantrums, but I couldn't stop.

Emma, I really like your videos. You have a knack for making things understandable. Can I ask you what software you use to create them? They don't look like the usual Khan style whiteboard videos.. Thanks
