@Robert Ward. Get a life Robert. The comment below by Johnston Stewart suggests he would donate his left testicle to fish on that river... You see Robert, people have a joke about things now and then. I'm sure Johnston really doesn't mean that. It's just a statement that shows his passion for something. My comment merely shows how much respect I have for Mikael. I admire him as an angler and enjoy his fishing videos. And another thing... You don't know why I fish, nor my parental situation. For all you know I could be an orphan and Mikael is the father I have always longed for. Get yourself out and about a bit. Meet people. Talk to them. We're not all bad. Take care Robert.

A gillie on the Helmsdale lays released fish on the bottom of the river (on their sides, head upstream in calmish water). After a while, they rise in the water, turn upright, and swim away. I have tried it several times, watching carefully, and it works. Of course you need calmish water and a suitable river bed.......

We find that using a barb-less hook really helps with catch and release, and you never lose any fish because of it.. You just flatten the barb with pliers - and there's no damage done.

Hi Zeph I agree - we fish a lot barbless and it works just fine!

Do these fish die after reaching their spawning grounds and spawning
@frodinflies4 жыл бұрын
Some die but a lot will go back to sea and some will come back as repeat spawners. Not like Pacific salmon where all will die after spawning.
@MrBillTaylor Жыл бұрын
Steelhead do not all die after spawning. Just like Atlantic Salmon which can repeat many times.

Hi Mikael, as I watch this fantasic video I was just admiring your bodywader. I see you regularly kneeling down in the river when handling your salmon. You must damage / repair quite a few pairs? If you don't mind me asking what make are the ones you're wearing in this video. Many thanks for the recent post, keep them comming. Oh, and by the way, not everybody can catch salmon on good wasters!!! 👌👍😉

Great vid... appreciate how you take care of the dish, but please hold them up and just above the water, so we can see the entire beautiful fish... and yes trust me it will not hurt the fish.... otherwise your video's are unfinished, unrewarding, boring
@tonebonetones4 жыл бұрын
Are you actually a 'game' fisherman, though.? Whilst only fishmongers take every fish home, catch and release is the absurd opposite......torturing fish for fun. No ifs or buts. This is simply coarse fishing for salmon. Meanwhile commercial drift netting harvests thousands of salmon off river mouths all over the UK and Europe. Ask a drift net fisherman if he practices catch and release lol!
