The song is about a Vietnam war veteran who couldn’t find his place back in Australia after returning from the war. It’s Left my heart to the Sappers round Ke Sahn - Sappers were army engineers and amongst other things would check for booby traps, clear mines, build bridges and fight in the lines - he left his heart to the people who kept him alive during the war. And it’s the last plane out of Sydney - ‘next’ plane doesn’t have the same meaning in the context of the story the song is telling.

Sorry I got that wrong. I did read this when I looked up the song about what it is was written about. Thank you commenting this on the song so people can understand that don’t know. Everyone knows the song but not necessarily what the story behind it is. I appreciate this. Thank you

Nice version. Is Cold Chisel and Ausie band cuz I have never heard of this song or the band. I saw the original version was 1978. Do you like any of Jim Croce's music? I wish I would have kept my old albums. I loved Croce's music as well as Don McClain. I learned Vincent but never recorded it.

Yeah they are an Aussie band. Don’t know if they’re doing much now but my mum n dad use to listen to them when I was little. Don’t think I’ve listened to much of Jim Croce though. I don’t even think I know who that it is. So I’ll suss it out

Yes of course! Sorry I did know that an it escaped my mind. I did see that he was ill awhile ago. He has an amazing voice and a classic Aussie icon.

We got abused at Geebung RSL one night because my brother in law sang this at karaoke. Brother in law was in the pisser after the song and called a guy 'Sir' and he told us he had no right coming in singing it. It's a beautiful song, so much dark shit hidden in there.
@mizziemaxxАй бұрын
Oh gees.. was that guy that said he had no right singing it, had he been in the war or just being an angry drunk?
@JonSnow-hr6iwАй бұрын
@@mizziemaxx Yeah he was a digger. They weren't impressed. The brother in law, who sung the song, his Dad was a Digger too, went off to battle at 19. He meant no disrespect singIng the song, but I'm not sure they liked hearing it. The mood changed, I suggested we leave and we did.

@@JonSnow-hr6iw well that’s a bit hectic. The guy that wrote the song I’m pretty sure didn’t go to war and neither did the guy that sung the song.. 🙃
