Even we Maharashtrians have a version of begun bhaja , I mean we call it ' kaap ' or 'phodi' , the brinjals and elephant yam are sliced thin and marinated with rice flour , red chilli powder , salt and a little of hing water and the shallow fryed on an iron pan . That my dear tastes so delicious . I found the Bangla begun bhaja delicious , will try the next time I make khichadi

@@sawandutta We South and Central Asians get six times the incidence of diabetes as Europeans. It's something we all have to be aware of, particularly with changes in our diets in recent decades. More dal and veggies and yoghurt for me, less meat and sweets. Not so hard to bear when it's so tasty. ;)

CB is pre diabetic too and we are both completely in favour of keeping a firm check on what we eat and drink! Khichuri....😌😌😌 You know? The bangaliana culture, wherein khichuri - begun bhaja combo was a must during rainy days, is somehow losing it's importance these days. This song, very well reminds me of days when my mother used to cook khichuri and begun bhaja for all us family members, and we used to eat it like there's no tomorrow. Idk how much likes this song will get to, but I'm pretty much sure that people who still value bangaliana will love it. It really touched my heart,, specially the part where the rain was shown. Lots of love to you and keep going like this! I'm sure thousands of people are being helped each day by your song vlogs❤

Ghee is not necessarily bad for everyone - I personally love ghee - but for anyone with cardiac issues OR a family history of cardiac problems, ghee is highly avoidable ☺️

Honestly, I find ways to intake quinoa & oats. Both of which I hate yet I know damn good for me especially for my essential amino acids lack due to not taking adequate animal protein & oats helps in reducing LDL & triglycerides which I also have at kinda high risk levels.. nay, I've to opt for these healthier recipes too... Starting from tomorrow...

You’re so right - I don’t much like the taste of bland quinoa and YET, as you say, know how powerful it is - so I’ve been looking for multiple different ways of making it so CB can recover and get back to good health - which has been pretty effective so far, touch wood! And now I’m headed to make oats for our breakfast just after typing this - I have a really delicious oats breakfast that we both love, I must remember to make a vlog out of that one, now that you’ve reminded me! ☺️

@@sawandutta Oats is manageable when mixed with something.. like Maa soaks them in water for like 30 mins and when it becomes mushy, she mix it with whole grain flour & you get a lil brighter to look at rotis with almost same taste. Just tends to lose the softness when turns cold, hence you have to eat it just out of the oven.. Quinoa just don't go with anything. It stays staring at you from the bowl no matter what. 😒😒.. anyway, the new, all woke bengali aunty actually goes perfectly the way she portrays herself. Waiting for more, as always. 💛💛💛

Hahahaha well if you try mixing it with multiple dals, with the ratio of dals higher than the quinoa, and use other flavouring agents, you can just about disguise its taste 😃😃😃

I’m not sure how popular this version would be, but it’s undoubtedly more healthy and packs more nutrition than the traditional version ☺️ Right now we’re trying to use food to achieve as much healing, recovery and fitness as possible ☺️

Was planning to cook eggplant tomorrow and now I know what to do 😃 So good to see a new post after a long time. Thank you for pointing exactly that out - I asked myself the same question- and around Pujo, I made a variation of khichuri labda which deployed bhaja mooger dal and all the traditional ingredients in a healthier form! Absolutely nothing wrong with the bhaja moog ☺️☺️☺️

We used to eat everything that moved - between bengal and kerala, that much was a given, beef is popular in both places! BUT after our recent medical fiascos we’re now changed human beings, red meat is now out, along with a lot else - health and fitness rules 😃😃😃

@@sawandutta Ah ! Ok. But I think Red meat should never be a "No" No". You should have enough green vegetables with it like mentioned in Keto diet and you should have physical exercises/ walking regularly. For million years red meat and fresh vegetables had been the main foods of human being and not food grains that you need to cultivate. Grains are not natural foods for human being since humans need to work for it and it inhibits the production of ketogens inside your body. Ancient human beings never had blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases like us because high production of ketogens in their body. Anyways. take care my good friend.

In truth we have no clue what the ancient people did or didn’t have or die of, or suffer from, do we? Obviously I get advise on this stuff from all quarters and everyone and their grandmothers, but at the moment the only advise I’m following is our cardiologist’s - it’s not a question of fad diets but of life and death for some of us, so it has to be that way 🙏🏼☺️🙏🏼

Brilliant as always! Fresh hot তাজা তাজা! Vah! Rhyming in two languages is hard. Loved the music and chorus in background, very sweet sounds. There is a new idea going around (See Dr Ken Berry on KZbin promoting the Keto diet) that heart healthy food is the avoidance of starch, sugar, grains, and seed oils. You replace carbs with fats. So you can eat all the ghee you want, but not the rice, or even quinoa. Veggies are okay, except for potatoes, yams, and other high starch/ sugar veggies like carrots. You eat meat, fish, eggs, bacon, chicken, ghee, butter, veggies, but no pasta, rice, roti, naan, etc. The high glycemic levels of foods stores as fat on your belly and is the cause of metabolic syndrome, the mother of all disease. Fatty liver, heart attacks, strokes, high blood sugar, diabetes, pancreatic cancer, cancer, fatty pancreas, skin problems, being overweight, belly fat, joint pains, inflammation anywhere, yeast and fungal issues... are all caused in most part by the ingestion of grains, starches, carbs, seed oils like safflower, canola, sugars of any kind. Oils to use are walnut, avocado oil, olive oil. Interesting, eh? Turns everything upside down. Moral is - eat ghee. Avoid rice and rotis. Ghee becomes the energy source instead of the carbs. The body then burns your stores of fat releasing ketones. You get healthier. The recipe is very good, and healthy. However, I will not be using quinoa either in the immediate future as I am going Keto. It is however, a huge improvement over rice which has a high glycemic index and the cause of belly fat.

Thanks - yes I feel a bit jittery about all these theories which keep changing. I may not have minded experimenting, had we not gone through the harrowing experience of a heart attack plus angioplasty plus open heart surgery in the last few months 😳 Now I’m turning a blind eye to all “fads” unless it’s coming from a cardiologist- and as per at least three of our cardiologists, ghee is out, fat is completely avoidable, specially trans fats, saturated fats, cholesterol. Keto btw, in the long run can harm the kidneys is what our cardiologist said. What we’re going with, is very simply plenty of fresh season veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean protein. Trying to minimise packaged food. And avoid the fats I mentioned above like the plague. It’s now a life and death thing for CB ( my husband ) so we’re not taking any risks. I’m following his heart healthy diet for pure convenience and absolutely loving the results ☺️ Oh And oil quantities limited to 1 tbsp per person per day / 375 to 500 ml a month.
