Some people just hate the white man not only because of the wrongs they’ve committed, which is understandable, but also simply overly hate them because they made it on top of the food chain in a lot of ways and had the ingenuity to get there by doing the same exact things good or bad that all people have used. Lol, what is the difference between e.g. a San or Sotho (or Bakoena) or Xhosa person? Which ritual performed by a San is not performed by a Bakoena or Xhosa? I cannot think of any, in fact there is none. We also have cities like Kgaditshwene, Kweneng,and mines which are the oldest in SA. We have Mapungubwe and other artifacts which are more than 2 billion years. Lebombo bone also shows that we were highly technological way before Europeans arrived here. We could write , do maths(Lebombo bone), mine and refine gold, iron ore, and the rest. The skill to build Zim ruins is exceptional. We also have pyramids in South Africa

Khoi/San people's are not "coloureds". My wife used to give livestock to true khoi/San people. They are unique and cannot be claimed to be coloureds. Coloureds are a result of interracial relations. Yes you can be half khoi/San, you can have that blood in you, just like whites and blacks can share a bloodline. There were no coloureds before races met. As a black person I identify with the khoi/San as being natives, but people who are born out of interracial relations shouldn't switch sides at their convenience. There's no "Williams" in the khoi/San they have names and they are alive to this day. My wife used to help those people with poverty eradication. They should never be turned into pawns, they are peaceful and the last to wage any wars against anyone. Coloureds just switch sides as they please.

Homo sapiens has been theorized to have developed in Southern Africa. Before us, there were other species of humans, like Homo naledi. EDIT: The Khoisan in particular split off from non-Khoisan Africans around 150,000-200,000 years ago. They're older than everyone else in Africa.

Wow! I'm dismayed at the comments made by people of color below. Born during apartheid myself and subjected to all discriminatory laws, my family's land and houses demolished- I'm ashamed at how ignorant some people are. I don't blame the Khoi and San identifying themselves as coloured. They were never black skinned to start off with. They never worshipped ancestors but one God and could hence better identify with the colonial powers at the time IRO religion. Pity 90% were wiped out in war and diseases they had no immunity to and our heritage destroyed in the process mostly. The language could not survive generations and hence Afrikaans, Dutch was adopted. Afrikaans was not evolved by the Dutch white men but by the people they colonised whom made Afrikaans their own. They have the oldest genome known to the human species and yes science doesn't lie. Mostly coloured people of Southern Africa carry the genes of our ancient ancestors. Denying , claiming that it's some sort of western conspiracy etc...would just be plain ignorant and arrogant. This 'reverse apartheid' currently dominating S.A is an utter disgrace and against the spirit of Ubuntu which many claim, embedded in our Constitution, clearly the Mandela days are long gone and the 'new crowd' is playing a different ball game. Unfortunately the true indigenous people of any land will always be denied justice along with their ancestorial ancient land just as the native Americans, Aborigines of Australia etc. Denied by the now majority claiming stake to all and everything. This is the current state of affairs in our country which plagues the minds of many people, indoctrined in pure ignorance, hatred and no sense of humanity towards others whom are different. The "all is ours mentality" is the reason our country is ridulled with corruption and a a false sense of entitlement! Perhaps we need to set aside this 'black' definition of who we are, an identity given to us by those that colonized us and in the process, some of them called themselves Afrikaaners (direct English translation is Africans). I keep wondering who refines this history. Are these historians? Because almost everybody including google refers to Khoisan, but who are those? Is it the mixture of Khoikhois and Sans? Is there something like the Khoixhosas or Khoitswanas? reason I am saying this is that Khoikhois and San did not necessarily behave the same, these were separately hunters and harvesters who arrived to the South of Africa at different times and they fought and killed each other over where to hunt and so forth, in a similar way another group came who did both and also settled and those were the Bantu. Can't remember hearing of the SanBantu or KhoiBantu. These were all stupid tricks by colonisers who thought they were good enough to write your history in a way that could divide you and call you name that could divide you. Khois and Sans are definitely NOT Coloured but strictly Black. Coloureds on the other side have the power of choosing to be black or white (generally based on their background, where they grew up and the amount of privileged life they received) even though today most coloured choose to rather be like the colonisers and sometimes look down on their black side. Also there are coloureds that regard themselves black.

At the time when Bartholomeu Dias and Vasco da Gama sailed around the Cape, the Cape Khoi people, or Khoe-Khoen, have been living around the coastal areas and in the mountain valleys of the present-day Western Cape, for about fifteen centuries. They appear to have gradually migrated southwards along different routes from around the Okavango in central present-day Botswana, perhaps due to displacement because of population pressures, conflicts between different groups, or climatic disasters. In the more arid interior, San hunter-gatherers lived. In fact, until a little before the time of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, only San people lived across the entire area of present-day South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, including the summer and winter rainfall areas, the Kalahari and other arid parts. How far back in history the San goes and their relationship with earlier modern humans who lived there, is not clear. A dated archeological find of San tools virtually identical to tools they were using recently, is some 46,000 years old (dating from 44,000 BCE). But, over a period of some fifteen centuries, the Khoi gradually displaced or assimilated San in the higher rainfall areas of the present-day Western Cape, and limited the San by and large to the more arid interior. Further than 800 km away towards the north-east, in the eastern half of present-day South Africa, Bantu migrants from further north in Africa likewise gradually displaced the San since about thirteen centuries ago and forced them into the arid areas. The Bantu inhabited the grassland and mixed woodland biomes, with a relively high rainfall during the summer months. The Khoi and San peoples are ethnically similar, and they are often referred to as Khoi-San. Ethnically the Khoi and San are also similar to the Nama, the Koranna, the Xiri and the Einiqua who lived further north along the Gariep River and in the southern half of present-day Namibia. Ethnologically these peoples are different from the Damara, Hai//om and Namib Bushmen living further north-west in the northern half of present-day Namibia, but they all speak related languages. Ethnically as well as culturally and linguistically, all of these peoples are different from the Bantu people. In the fifteenth century neither the Khoi nor the San had mastered iron, and both still used stone-age technology. But the Khoi were more advanced, allowing them to live at higher population densities than the San who depended entirely on foraging for their needs. San males hunted their meat and the females and children gathered from the veldt whatever plant foods and edible insects nature provided. The main differences between the Khoi and the San were that the Khoi were graziers who kept sheep since about 1,800 years ago, and cattle and goats since about 1,400 years ago; not more than could be protected overnight against predators and stock thieves in stone-walled corals, and managed without pasture fences, such as the stonewalls that were in use throughout Europe at the time. They also constructed dome-shaped huts consisting of a framework of bent laths covered over with layers of woven reed mats, whereas the San lived in the open or took shelter in caves or rock shelters. The San limited possessions to no more than could easily be carried; one or two items of skin clothing, weapons, tools and utensils, which suited their mobile lifestyle. The flip-side of these differences is that the San were able to survive in the arid areas into which the Khoi and Bantu colonisation had forced them. They were able to survive on water extracted from seep pits in dry river beds, or on juices extracted from bulbous plants, or even on the rumen fluid of animals they hunted. Gemsbok, for example, is a native of desert areas and does not need access to open water, yet the rumen contains watery fluid. The Khoi on the other hand, were dependent on higher rainfall for pasture and on open drinking water for their animals. Both used stone and bone tools and spears, bows and poison arrows for hunting. The Khoi also hunted game for meat and foraged for plant foods, only occasionally slaughtering their own stock, but using the milk extensively. The Khoi called themselves merely Khoi-Khoi, or people-people, or real people, perhaps to distinguish themselves from the San, whom they derogatively referred to as foragers, humans living in a fashion similar to wild animals, depending for food and shelter entirely on what nature provided. Or perhaps it was simply their annoyed answer to a question repeatedly asked by people arriving on their shores in ships, who, to them, must have appeared very artificial and far removed from real life as they knew it. Whatever the reason, the reality is that they did not see themselves as a nation similar to French, English, Portuguese or Dutch, nor as an ethnic grouping, and at most referred by name to their tribes. The same applied to the San and the Bantu, neither of whom had a name for themselves as an ethnic group. But the Bantu did recognise national groups like Pedi, Zulu, Xhosa, etc. Similar to the Khoi, the Tswana Bantu of present-day Botswana and north-western parts of South Africa derogatively referred to the San as the Barewa, or worse, still, the Marewa. The San is one of fourteen groups on the planet with the oldest human genetic material, which supports the notion that they are direct descendants of the early modern humans that lived in South Africa since at least some 200,000 years ago. Ironic that they were displaced from their native lands by colonising Khoi and Bantu from northern parts of sub-Saharan Africa, isn't it? The San left a fantastic heritage of rock art across the country, some of which estimated as some 10,000 years old. The oldest rock art, from the Blombos cave, is estimated as some 70,000 years old, but who made it is uncertain. The Khoi lived in the Fynbos, the Succulant Karoo, and, to a lesser extent, the Nama Karoo biomes of SA. The Fynbos and Succulent Karoo biomes include the Cape coastal plains and the valleys of the Cape Fold Mountain Belt, in width up to about 100 km inland from the coast. All these areas receive rain in winter, with hot dry summers, but the Nama Karoo, which lies beyond the Cape Fold Mountain Belt, receives much less rain and is arid, with a scarcity of open water, so essential for graziers, except during the rainy season. Further north, along the upper Zeekoe Valley - a tributory of the Caledon River - a fourteenth, unnamed Khoi tribe lived until about the mid eighteenth century. Along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, around present-day Citrusdal - a little inland, and south of Elandsbaai - the Guriqua lived along the Olifants River and its tributaries. Their neighbours - to the south and inland of Saldanha Bay - the Cochoqua lived along the Berg River. Further south and upstream along the Berg River were the Goringhaiqua, and around present-day Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula were the Goringhaicona or so-called 'Peninsulars', the tribe on whom western settlement at the Cape would impact first and foremost. To the east-south-east of them, along the Indian Ocean coast, around present-day Bredasdorp, lived the Chainoqua. East-north-east of their area, along the Gouritz River near present-day Mossel Bay, were the Hessequa. Successively further north east along the coast, beyond the narrow Forest biome around Knysna, were the Gouriqua the Attaqua, the Gamtoos, the Damasqua (along the Groot and Gouritz Rivers), and the Hoengeyqua as far up north-east as the vicinity of present-day Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth. And finally, along the Bushmans River and almost bordering on the Transkei area in the present-day Eastern Cape Province where Xhosa Bantu to this day still live, were the Gonaqua. In addition to the Khoi tribes living along the coast line, the Inqua lived along the Breede River near present-day Swellendam, a little inland and north of the Hessequa and the Gouriqua,. The Khoi did not domesticate wild African animals; the cattle and sheep they farmed were domesticated in the Middle East and Europe some 10 to 14 millenia earlier. However, their cattle were a true African breed developed over millenia from Indian bulls and European cows. They were well adapted to African climates and were tolerant to ticks and the diseases carried by wildebeest and buffalo. The sheep also were a fat-tailed breed that originated in Africa. In good climatic times, they store fat in the tail, providing energy reserves for times of drought when pastures are meagre. And they are hardy, tolerant of ticks and blowflies, and disease hardy. The Khoi initially knew little or nothing about Europe. Only from the final years of the fifteenth century onwards did they occasionally see Europeans with their white skins and strange clothing that covered their bodies entirely - even their feet - on ships sailing past. After discovery of the sea route around the Cape, ships regularly anchored in Table Bay to take on fresh water and other supplies. The Khoi in general, and the Goringhaicona in particular, were introduced to new ways of living and, with the exchange of commodities, also to a new economy which gradually, but completely, changed their lifestyle and culture.
