Also different speeds of fuse are used, sometimes its pop, pop, pop, then bburrripp, then pop, pop, pop and so on. Although there is no official color code, the different colors of fuse denote their burn speeds. The slowest is dark green, the fuse that sticks out of a cake(light here on consumer cakes), then other speeds of fuse are used internally. With 1.3g cakes, the fuse is usually on top and has both a slow burn for manual ignition and a port for electric match ignition from a firing system.

Fireworks on Oahu is OUT OF CONTROL. A lot of people are claiming cultural and tradition. No, not how it is currently. Cultural and tradition was when families would buy 5,000 or 10,000 long red packs and hang from a tree or pole and lit up at midnight. No aerials. Aerials were for the professionals putting on a show. Which families would excitingly look forward to, plan, and travel to see. Now it's about defiance and arrogance, the loudest and best at home show. Never mind the asthmatic and respiratory people, the elderly, people with ptsd, private owned, stray or caged animals(zoo), kids unsupervised, safety for safe and others or protection(safe and others. Let's not forget 3 people lost their lives just 4 days ago, many others with severe injuries, and materialistic damages. Many more may lose their lives, and definitely have ptsd, depression and fear. The other truth banning or stating illegal without consequences defeats the purpose of the ban, stating illegal. It's like the people are calling the legal systems bluff.

Make people take a safety class and get a certificate of completion like hunter education. Teach people the proper ways and safe handling and only then you are able to buy fireworks with a certificate of completion. You do it for hunting. Enforce it to only New Years since thats when Hawaii does it big. If you get caught outside that time you get a fine or time or something. I like fireworks, I pop aerials all the time here in Hawaii. While yes, I do it in a residential area (on a street), I’m still aware of the dangers and what not. You won’t see me putting a cake on a table, and I can say the same for many others here. It was unfortunate that lives were lost, but please understand we are not all clueless. We know what we are doing, at least partly so. The proof is the fact that we have been doing it for years. In my opinion, it’s also NOT as simple as we may think. Someone on here mentioned alcohol and drinking; that alone is a whole other factor that plays a role in some accidents, including firework related ones. My point is this: we are not 100% clueless, at least not all of us. This incident was unfortunate, but you do not get to use it against everybody that lights aerials. We take risks everyday, whether we know it or not.

If everyone had respect for the danger and a mature attitude about It things may be different. Setting them off in a residential area puts countless neighbors homes at risk for damage and destruction. @@kapenahill-el3gzThat is true. I guess my only input on that (which will probably sound like a load of BS, understandably) is that there’s always some sort of risk and that we can’t necessarily stop it, since fireworks are already at a point where it’s used by the majority of people in Hawaii. I just hope that most people learn from this and do things differently and effectively, such as securing the fireworks as much as possible when it’s placed.
