Houston Mayor John Whitmire addresses HPD Chief Troy Finner's abrupt retirement

Houston Mayor John Whitmire has accepted the retirement of Troy Finner as police chief, he said at Wednesday's City Council meeting.

Good that Houston has a Mayor now that actually comes out and takes press briefings and addresses real issues. Last Administration was to focused on how much money they could get away with from the taxpayers.

As a former reporter in this city for nearly fifty years I have seen incident after incident of stonewalling involving HPD and other departments by mayor after mayor. It is refreshing to see this mayor’s transparency and open discourse with the news media and the citizenry the media represents.

I just notice a few board members have been quiet since Mayor Turner. I think they trying to figure out Whitmire angle. It’s not him though but it’s a lot of distorted information. Leaders take the hit the most unfortunately. It’s tough because you would think your core team would be strong but that’s not the case all the time.

If this chief retired abruptly, there is a good chance that any ongoing investigation would have uncovered something negative. It would be of NO surprise to me if there was a deal made that would block any of that type of information from going public in exchange for that abrupt retirement. These types of deals are made all the time. We, the People, have no idea how much corruption and other criminal activity is hidden from us. We don't know what we don't know.

Acevedo is corrupt as all the rest of them. He covered up the Harding street raid which should be grounds for removal all on its own.
