We do all this warning to lower the chance of death from hurricanes, yet we have a President that is letting all this Fentynal into our country which is killing people off as much as Anthrax does. They call them Overdoses, but they are really poisinings and we're up to 90,000 deaths this year. The good news is that Biden has let in 5 million welfare-seeking people that can't speak English from 140 countries to replace the young Americans that are dying from a single candy-like pill. I am dependent on legally prescribed hydrocodone and my fear is that I will break the rules one of these days and be cut off cold turkey. When that happens, I might just buy something on the street for pain relief. It already killed one of my best friends.

Excellent presentation! I've been binge watching Ian News for 2 days, & this is the first time I've heard about the shallow waters on the west coast of Florida as the reason why we are so prone to surge.
@KB-ke3fi2 жыл бұрын
The shallowest waters in the entire Gulf of Mexico are in Texas.
@brianfitch54692 жыл бұрын
Pretty much the whole gulf coast has shallow waters. It'll be ok for most people there will be a 30-40 mile stretch where it makes landfall where old buildings will be damaged or destroyed. Lots of old power poles and trees will demolish the power lines. Since there havnt been a strong Storm in so long lots of old large tree limbs to clobber the lines. Shingles and a few roofs might fly off. In areas that get hit alot. The building codes require structures to be able to handle 150+mph winds now. I believe that's all of Floridas building code since the 1980s for structure integrity. It's the old buildings that arnt well built/maintained that may have some issues.

I have two cousins that live in the Tampa Area. They both got out. One live near a stream (something like 5 doors away at the end of her street) that empties into the Bay, as is prone to backing up and flooding anytime there's a storm surge. The other lives on a street that borders the Intracostal Waterway...the people across the street from her house all have boat docks in their back yards, and can launch right into the Intracostal. They're with their brother (my other Florida cousin) up near Orlando. His house is a fairly new custom construction that's been built to resist a Cat. 4 storm, and has a stand-alone emergency generator. They are absolutely loaded, and the house is like an absolute fortress. Being from Pittsburgh, we don't have much experience with hurricanes. We did, however have on brush by (but not come on shore) the eastern coast of Florida one year while we were at Disney. Orlando did not catch the brunt of the storm, but we did get enough to know I'd rather not have to deal with a direct hit. Stay safe, stay strong, Florida.

Glad I live on the west coast with no hurricane threat, looks like a real pain to have to evacuate with 2.5 million others and not knowing if you’ll still have a house when you return. Good luck folks.

This was extremely informative how the gulf goes 10k feet deep vs Atlantic Ocean which is less but the shoreline is shallow on the west of Florida which makes it prone to storm surge. Where as on the east of Florida the shoreline drops a 1000 feet so the storm surge doesn't extend as far in. I feel earth scientifically smart now.
