You should play Dragon age inquisition and it's trespasser dlc if you want to understand Veilguard's story. Plus Inquisition is really good and it won the goty 2014.

If you play inquisition before hand then hard focus on the story for the first few hours and only start exploring after meeting the main villain in the story or you could get burnt out by the early parts of the game because it is the most boring part of that game, also only collect 10 of each resource outside of elf leaves and bear hide because those two resources are always useful. Ignore this if you already played.

one save in Dragon's Dogma 2 made sense as your character could be any class, and appearance could be changed at any time, the game was meant to be played over and over again. You couldn't ruin your game so only one save was needed. But obviously people were annoyed and confused so Capcom compromised. Now there are millions of abandoned pawns from thousands of saved games.

The new emphasis on combat, but no ability to control your companions; the de-emphasis on story (what made the last Dragon Age so replayable); the lack of an open world. These aspects do give me reason for concern. Hopefully the game will be good even if it's not exactly what many of us wanted it to be. Enjoy your gaming brother!

@@heqitao he means you don’t get the tactical combat menu, nothing about story. there’s still the command wheel to assess the battlefield and give your companions commands like Mass Effect, but no top down view or ability to directly control your companions. so it’s definitely less crpg feeling but will still be very story focused

As someone who has been a fan of this franchise since the beginning. I recommend you start with origins, and play sequentially. First off, this game takes place in a huge spoiler point in the story. And there's very good reason to see if this is a good Dragon Age first, which the fans are torn on thinking but this isn't a good starting point. Just my recommendation.

yeah, i means dragon age at the base was a rpg, already with the second they had begin to go more action... but there i feel the game lost all his identity. you can have a solid gameplay tough but if the story and rpg part is lacking it's bad. a good example was Anthem, the gameplay was solid but the rest was lackluster (for be nice)

I am a super fan of Dragon Age and its lore. I actually just play it for the story and I am just happy enough they write books, comics, and a netflix show as an extra. I love how in every game it seems like to be a different game overall -- different genre and art style. I didn't expect myself to finish Origin when it came out in 2009 because slow gameplay of CRPG like DNDs bore me but I did finish it because the narrative was great and the conversations you get with your companions are gold. RTS games have a faster progression lol. Didn't like Dragon Age 2 that much because it was just Kirkwall but the fast paced battle and story was redeeming enough. Inquisition was too exhaustive as a game and took me more time to finish. So many codex, so much fun. It's beautiful in terms of landscape and art direction -- visually stunning at that time. It gave me an idea of what southern Thedas looked liked visually. DLCs were worth it imo. I have not geeked out in a lore since the movies LOTR came out. Bioware really did a great job writing this one. Hoping they wrote this game as impressive as the last 3 ones. Don't want it to end like WOW.

I remember playing Origins back when it originally came out (I was a Senior in HS to date myself). Never really played games before besides things like Spyro and Pokemon. Origins was revolutionary for me. I've sunk several thousand hours into each Dragon Age game individually (I know Inquisition sat around 2k on pc but I started playing it on the ps4). I wanted to get every single bit of lore, dialogue, interaction and secret that I could get my grubby hands on. Bioware may change what the game is but their characters will always be some of the best written in the business imo. And that's why I play these games. As long as I don't need mods to skip portions that are not fun (Origins), want to pull my hair out from slow combat (DA2), or want to run off a cliff from pointless quest bloat (DAI) I'll be incredibly happy with the outcome.
