Bonus tip: Put on your weakest weapon and tankiest armor when you fight Venom Daoist for the first time, and bring as much mana for Immobilize as possible. Whenever his back arms are near to the ground, immobilize him and start hitting them. They will break with a burst of green blood. Once you break the four lower arms (leaving only the upper shoulder ones and his normal arms like in the second fight), kill him for the legendary Venomous Armguard. Why is this important? Besides the Mantled with Might achievement, the Venomous Armguard is busted as all get out. It acts as an alternate piece for the Centipede armor set with 30 defense, so you can get the Poison Ward bonus, and adds 3% crit chance by itself. It's better than 16 more defense and 6 poison resist on the Centipede mythical arms... Especially because of its unique effect: Critical hits build up Poison Bane. Pair this with the Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff and its base 25% crit chance, stack every crit bonus you can find, put on the Elder Amourworm spirit and poison yourself with the Deathstinger soak - the crit poison build does insane damage, especially if you use Whirling Thrust to stack even further past 50%. Of course, don't forget the Celestial Birthstone from the Chapter 6 frog so you can poison enemies that are normally immune to poison bane. Edit: You still can't poison 100% immune enemies like the Violet Spider. But I did find out something funny: Worm Guai egg stacks get transferred to the enemy by the Weaver's Needle vessel. Crazy how that just works.

Also, unless those bosses are missable, you can go back and do them before beating the stone monkey again. It should carry everything over. And you can always try again in NG+.

If you have done the Great Sage battle first, don't worry, the game will set you back before you get to fight great sage.. fight Erlang first and then go back and beat GS again. There are actually 4 poison chief enemies in chapter 6. They are hidden on the right side of the map. Also you actually don't have to fight the final boss to fight the secret boss. The secret boss should be up to fight the moment you collect your full mythic equipment in chapter 6. There's also the common version of the mythic equipment in chapter 6 that's in a secret chest near the first shrine. That armor set scales up def based off how many talent points you have in your armour.

If you travel backward on the Somersault Cloud from the first shrine of chapter 6 and look for a large tree on a hill, you will find a chest under it. Inside is the original concept art version of the Wukong armor, with a unique perk that boosts its defense for each Wukong talent (relic perk) unlocked if you have the whole set on. I don't know if this works with anything else like the Great Sage stance, but it is the biggest defense buff in the entire game after three complete NG+ cycles, so the Dark Iron Staff gets even more broken than with Bull King.

Some food for thoughts here: At the end of the Journey to the West, Wukong's headband was removed by Buddha himself to set Wukong free. At the start of this game, Wukong fell out of the sky because of that headband "reappeared". This has serious implications. Does this mean Buddha lied to Wukong and never removed the headband? or Does this mean at the end of the journey Wukong met someone who claims to be the Buddha, shared Buddha's powers, but is not the real Buddha? or does this mean this powerful being put the headband back on Wukong's head during the fight? If the last is true, then that would mean this being is siding with the Celestial Court, seeing Wukong as a real threat and denying his freedom. Also, during the Erlang fight, Erlang said he didn't kill Wukong, because he can't. Now flash back to animation at end of chapter 6, Erlong pulled his spear out of Wukong's body and said you can't escape the headband. Wukong said, "Open your eye and look, I'm going to take it off right now" (literal translation from Chinese VA). And he did it by giving up on his life because he knows he can't fight against this overwhelming power, which leads to the beginning of this game, with the players playing as the destined one, tracing Wukong's footsteps but completing our own journey at the same time. I guess the devs' message is that we all have a bit of Wukong in us. Game is deep, and there's so much more. Cheers.

Thats a good interpretation of the story. Mine is a little bit more straightforward. Wukong knew that the only way to remove his constraints(headband) was by actually dying, but he is the ''Victorious Fighting Buddha'', which means that the only way to actually lose was if he himself lost intentionally. Hence he conspired with Erlang to make it look that they were both actually fighting, when in reality it was all just a show for the celestial court. Wukong must have known that eventually someone would rise up to take his relics and mantle, and so entrusted his memories to Erlang, who he kept safely in his third eye until you defeated him. Remember the Smiling Buddha referred to Erlang as a ''friend who has been waiting for you''. This is further proved by Erlang himself when you approach him, as he is not hostile you at all, but instead greets you as a friend who has been waiting for the Destined One to bring Wukong's plan into fruition. He also explains that his entire journey was a test made by him. This time Erlang fights you in order to determine if you truly are the one who has been waiting for, and when he is proven that, he releases Wukong's memories from his third eye. Fastforward to the moment the elder monkey is about to place the headband on the Destined One, Wukong's memories take hold which allows the Destined One/Wukong to reject the headband and finally become free.

@@Xenithmar That's interesting, but I do find issues with this theory. First off, the ''friend who has been waiting for you'', that's the English VA. The Chinese VA is "a long time acquaintance has been waiting for you" (literal translation). Not sure why it was translated to "friend", perhaps for the sake of abbreviating the language, it was translated as such. Which changes the meaning completely. However, in Chinese, long time competitors are sometimes referred to as a "friend“, especially an "old friend", which referrers to the length of time of the relationship. Secondly, Wukong's memories in Erlang's third eye. When released, they are dark in color, and was not seen as absorbed by the destined one, they flew around then vanished into thin air. Which indicates those are memories of obsession, guilt, and perhaps even hatred. By defeating Erlang, he was relieved of his obsession of Wukong, so he said "my heart is at peace" (literal translation), and aided the destined one with this weapon. Your take is absolutely valid with the English VA, but with the difference in translation, I don't quite see it being reflected that way. This is also funny because this brings me back to think about the entire IGN-gate farce. lol.

To get the Wu kong stances beat the game 3 whole times and make sure to get the good ending which means defeating all secret bosses and fighting erlang and becoming the big monkey and winning this will let you add all points in total to get the stance 👋🏽

Fyi I could not beat the scorpion boss head on. Fought him roughly 15 times back to back and then he disappeared!!! When I went to fight the dusk chicken the first time the scorpion boss jumped in to the ring during phase one and fought each other. They were roughly matched so I attacked scorpion boss and both I and the chicken defeated him. Then I got one of his rewards (blue stick not tail) and died in second phase against rooster. Just fyi

Also try using Azure Dust transformation, he doesn’t attack you while you’re transformed into that one and the charge heavies break his stance really fast too. Use plantain fan to break his phase 1 stance bar, use Wandering Wight and Azure Dust to break during phase 2, and if you use the brew that restores Qi on gourd use you can have another fan ready for phase 3 to instantly break him again

for anyone who struggles with erlang use the plantain fan and the gourd that recovers qi, first phase active fan and use the snake transformation, just hit him into phase 2, this is the hard part you have to break his phase 2 shield WITHOUT the fan just play passive and for your transformation I recommend the snow monkey boss transformation since its easy to dodge his attack that de-transforms you, once you break his shield and hes in phase 3 hes going to do his sword spam attack place a ring of fire and use your spin to block and dodge his slam last second and activate your fan to break his armor and use all your pills to slap him into final phase and pound down your gourd to recover your fan to break his final shield and after that the fight is basically a free win.

I would like to add that once I reach 100 in shock resistance, it doesnt charge anymore the weapon in thunder so your attacks doesnt deal anymore shock/thunder damage. Idk if it is a bug or its on purpose

This is a funny video, because probably 10% or less of players will finish NG. You have to get over the serious hump with a certain Tiger in Chapter 2 and then you go into Chapter 3 and wonder how to deal with a mostly aerial enemy before you have even done anything else and then there is Chapter 4, OMG, the "end" bosses of chapter 4. So yeah, if you get through all that then it is smooth sailing through "easy mode" chapter 5 and chapter 6 until the end bosses (secret included) that you have to face after having lost your skills because you thought you were pretty OP with your great stats and gear, etc. and lo and behold you need to be a dodge god, like seriously, a dodge god.

I'm going to be strict. I have a video and I'm going to try to post it to my KZbin at some point. But I have a video of me hitting 7k on one boss then fighting another one and hitting him for 8K. I think I almost hit one boss for like 9k damage. I've been trying to maximize the damage on my bill since the start of the game and I pretty much made my first playthrough kind of a breeze because I was able to get my critical chance up to like 40%
