yes, IV2 needs a code to activate the software. Then you can play it by using simulation. It is a good simulation tool. AB has simulation tool but it is not for free.

If you are using NX Omron controller and they have Ethernet/IP scanner(master) function, then it is similar idea.

IV3 for the communication is almost the same, the key improvement from IV2 to IV3 is its AI enhancement.
