I did call the showroom just for an enquiry on Carens on the same day of price announcement (just vandipraanthan things😉). They said that the waiting period is 1 and a half month. Also they mentioned that the prices will increase around 10-20k by the time I get the car delivered even if I booked the car that same day. That means even the first batch cars would be sold for a prices higher than announced.

There was a time Sony, Samsung, Nokia and such few players controlled the smartphone market, them Redmi came and brought products some of which even having a profit margin of 100rs. These are the products and companies that will succeed in India. I guess the pricing is definitely a good strategy. With a lot of bookings and semiconductor shortages (real or not), waiting periods will be long. As JayD mentioned, we will see a couple of price hikes in the coming months. So shock pricing is all well and good, it remains to be seen how many will actually get delivery of a Carens at the launch price.

Just a theory, not sure, Instead of developing a new car from scratch, they reused tried and tested seltos formula and might have saved some budget of it, since this being a global model, they might sell first few batches at a low profit margin in india , and once they have recouped the expenses from global sales (as this car is to be exported) , might hike prices with later revisions. Current pricing probably put this car under radar of lot of people looking to buy an mpv. This car could be an alternate option for cars from different segment and price brackets.

I would say indian automobile market is difficult because of the high taxes. Almost 40-50% of the on-road price is paid as taxes, especially in states like Karnataka and Kerala. We are paying tax on tax. Manufactures have to manage their margins from this complex tax structure.

Your ex-showroom price includes 28% GST for any car and additional cess will be there depending on the class of vehicle. 15 lakhs onroad price varunna vandik almost 40-45% will be the taxes. The road tax is calculated on the GST which you already paid as tax, which is double taxing. There are few exceptions in North Indian states.

9:47 MG astor base model is not available anywhere, even they can not log the booking for this particular varient. Booking allowed only for second varient onwards. In Bangalore they said the waiting period is 12+ months for base and 3-4 months for top end.

Market penetration pricing is the best suited for Indian market, and when it adds value for money to the base, that's it. Done and dusted. Longer waiting period, no test drive vehicle for base variants (considering doubted power lag in 1.5NA petrol)and above all my budget is 12L and though Carens has a model in that range, I didn't feel as comfortable as my visit after testdriving Xl6.

I was informed there will be a 20k hike during delivery.. waiting period here in Bengaluru is 21 weeks. When other Manufacturers are having HUGE issues with Supply Chain Issue(especially Chips) how is KIA going to deliver all these bookings. Mahindra has waiting list of more than a year!!
