Depends what you are testing for, I'd recommend disconnecting the 12V battery if testing it.

Do you have to enter security code on entertainment system? Or lose your settings? Any impacts after having removed the battery?
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
No, no security code reset necessary. I think because they are so "built-in" nowadays they no longer manufacture them that way since it was a method being used to prevent theft of a system that could be used in another vehicle.

What would be your recommendation when leaving the vehicle unused in winter for 3+ months? Leave on a trickle charger? Thanks
@stevemiller22102 жыл бұрын
Leaving a trickle charger on for six months I’ll let you know
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, trickle charger is a good idea for the 12V battery during period it is left unattended. Even in the cold it is not an issue to trickle charge these batteries.

In fact, the 12V battery is topped up from the HV battery every night, as long the SoC is >20% (unless they tweaked that meanwhile). So, I could imagine, if you change your HV battery to 60%, this should be fine for a long standby. What also works, if you have an indoors parking lot, is to drive the HV battery down below 50%, limit AC charge level to 50% and leave it attached to the AC wallbox. You can leave the charge port unlocked in case somebody needs to charge on the parking lot next to you, but tell them to re-plug it to your car again, after use.

What about the red and blue cap.You not putting back on the new battery.Or is not necessary?
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
The Red and Blue caps on the Ohmmu battery are just there as terminal covers to prevent shorting during transport and storage, they need to be removed before/during install and can be recycled or saved or even better put them on the old battery during transporting it to recycling!

I think you can leave a trickle charger on the lead acid I’m not sure about the other battery

You can leave a trickle charger on it, that isn't a problem

The trickle charger I use has a setting for lead-acid battery (including AGM) and a setting for lithium-ion. I would suggest that if a lithium battery is going to be trickle charged, it should use a charger which can supply the correct voltage, amps and charging profile.

How well do these hold up with aftermarket amplifiers? I'm surely going to add a 4-500w amp to the weak Meridian audio with a 12" subwoofer... This is nothing crazy obviously, but I need more bass...
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
Lithium has a higher voltage performance during amplifier drain/use so you get a little better bass when you upgrade to Lithium and have amplifiers.

Better than the stock battery, but you’re also using a lot more power. Hope you find your zen.

Bought this after an ICCU failure. Super bummed when we had another low voltage situation. Battery at 8 volts. No warning from Ohmmu. HOWEVER, the Ohmmu app saved the car with this workaround. The app allowed us to stop battery discharging when parked. Until the ICCU issue is fixed, we just stop discharging when parked. The car is a huge battery vampire even when off.

Lead Acid batteries have a different charging profile than LiFePO4, where is that set up at? (standard 12 PB batteries can tolerate being continuously cooked by the DC:DC converter vs other chemistries).
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
Actually any/all batteries will be worn out pretty quickly if they are "continuously cooked"; if you have a specific voltage that you are referring to it may be more easy to compare though. LFP chemistry has a higher nominal voltage than Lead Acid so generally speaking is more tolerant of continuously higher voltages. If you push them too high, they will wear out (just like any other chemistry).

Oh yeah, how about the cold, at -20 , does will battery keep it charge or like every iPhone on the cold the battery lost all it capacity ? and why the hell changing the battery yourself when the car is less than 1 years old and still in warranty.
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
Do you realize that the same capacity loss in the cold occurs with Lead Acid batteries as well? This isn't an issue specific to Lithium chemistry and not all lithium are built the same or even the same chemistry. The effect of the cold is variable based on the battery design and specific chemistry.

Hi, can i change a more capacity of 12v battery for my ev car? The default 12v lead acid battery installed in my ev has 45Ah of capacity, hardly enough for my upgraded sound system, so that i hope a new bigger Lithium 12v battery can solve the problem. But i don't know if it's available and safe?
@OhmmuEnergy2 жыл бұрын
Hi you can definitely expect better sound-system performance if you upgrade that lead acid battery to our Lithium 12V battery. The main variable you are looking for with a sound-system isn't Ah though, it is voltage-sag under load and Peukert's value for the chemistry. These 2 technical features are where Lithium chemistries handily beat Lead Acid, under load the Lead Acid battery voltage will drop very fast which leads to reduction of available power to energy hungry amplifiers. Peukert's value means that sustained higher loads lead to severe capacity reduction in Lead Acid. The 45Ah you mention from the stock battery, if you actually load it up with say 25A of load will drop like a rock in water to maybe half that value (20-25Ah) while the Lithium will sustain much greater capacity under those loads. Our batteries are totally available for this vehicle platform already! www.ohmmu.com/product-page/12v-lithium-battery-for-kia-ev6

THIS IS NOT TO KIA SPECS - THE CHARGING PROTOCOL FOR LEAD ACID BATTERIES IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN LITHIUM. WITH THE HIGHER VOLTAGE AND DIFFERENT INTERNAL RESISTANCE OF THE LITHIUM BATTERY THE 12 VOLT BATT REGULATOR WILL THINK THE BATTERY IS ALWAYS FULLY CHARGED AND "NOT" CHARGE THE BATTERY TO FULL CAPACITY. IN ADDITION, USING LITHIUM YOU NOW HAVE WINTER CHARGING PROBLEMS YOU CAN CHARGE THE 12 VOLT LITHIUM BATTERY BELOW FREEZING. THIS SAME CHANGE OUT OF LITHIUM WAS USED FOR MOTORCYCLE BATTERIES WITH CONSTANT FAILURE.
@frankiejane1109 Жыл бұрын
Interesting since my dealer told me they wouldn’t install it unless it was up to Kia specs. They installed it, so not quite sure what exactly you’re talking about.
@LowOnCash Жыл бұрын
@@frankiejane1109 I'm talking about as soon as it reaches below 32 degrees the battery turns off and your stranded. Plus the charger curcuit in the EV is only designed for lead acid which works at lower voltage than a lithium this means your battery will never fully charge in that car.
@OhmmuEnergy Жыл бұрын
This battery will not turn off because the temperature is below 32F, that is misinformation and misapplication of a widespread fear of charging "lithium" in the cold. This isn't an issue for our batteries.
@LowOnCash Жыл бұрын
My best advice to you is to study up on Lithium before you sell in-correct information. The current charging system in all cars to include EV's is designed for "Only" lead acid batteries. Lithium has different voltages and internal resistance. If you install a lithium battery in a car it only charges to 25-30% SOC. There is hundreds of thousands of lithium cars out there all with the same problem in winter. Unlike a lead acid battery that can be charged in frigid weather, a lithium battery cannot withstand charging at low temperatures because it causes "Plating" which causes permanent damage in just a few charge cycles. First off the Tesla battery is 16 volts ans it creates heat within the battery for cold weather and it does not operate the Tesla accessories, it only closes the high voltage contacts. Li-Plating is a formation which is deposited on the batteries anode surface during extreme cold temperatures and particularly during fast charging, high regen or high discharge. Metallic lithium reacts with the electrolyte and forms dendrites which leads to permanent capacity loss. In more simple terms - Once temperatures drop below freezing, it causes the lithium batteries liquid electrolyte between the plates to thicken. The colder the temperature, the thicker the electrolyte becomes. As the ions attempt to pass thru the thickened electrolyte during charging or even high discharging, many ions fail to reach the other plate and remain permanently lodged in electrolyte forming an insulated barrier called plating. Plating is permanent and continues to block the free-flow of ions during fast charging, acceleration or even high regen, reducing battery efficiency and capacity. Regards - Mike

I'm glad you edited your original piece instead of replying and tried a little harder for accuracy in this one, kudos on that. Still not fully correct but you do demonstrate some knowledge. Clearly not an "expert" and clearly this isn't your field (25-30% SOC, really? Do you know the charged voltage of, let's say, the 12V battery on a 2015 Chevy Volt? For example...) but thanks for the "advice" anyways.
