The new Kia EV6 has reason to celebrate: The electric crossover was voted German Car of the Year 2022 in the "Premium" category, which includes all new models with a base price of 25,000 to 50,000 euros. The EV6 won ahead of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and also prevailed against VW ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Enyaq and Mercedes C-Class, among others.

EV6 RANGE PROBLEM I’ve had two test drives in the Kia Ev6, it’s great, everything the reviewers say it is. I arranged a longer test drive today as I have never owned an EV and needed first hand experience of range… if it was even close to WLTP figures I was ordering one at end of test. Test car was a 77kwh RWD GT Line S. it had a 98% charge and was showing a 285 mile range ( even at this point I thought the projected range was low, but I so wanted to be proved wrong ) WLTP range is 328 for a fully charged RWD. The outside temp was 12c and throughout the test it mostly rained… the car was in ECO throughout. Heating was on for first 25 miles or so, including heated steering wheel and seats, but I turned heating to setting one and seats and steering wheel cancelled heat output. I did 132 miles on test… 60 motorway, 60 A/B road miles, and about 12 miles urban driving. I used 75% regenerative braking and hardly used the brakes at all, the system was that good. At end of test battery was showing 92 miles range ? This equated to 224 miles off a 98% charge, providing I got the full 92 miles out of the batttery…. At start the car said I had 285 miles ? Interestingly, the car at start and end of test showed 2.9 m/kWh on display. This works out at 77 x 2.9 = 223. 3 miles… an exact measure of what the car was doing. In conclusion, WLTP figures of 328 miles … The car at start said I had a 285 mile range… My actual range at best would have been 224 ? And the car itself verified my figures via its miles per kWh display. I have been in touch with Kia UK but was offered no interest, explanation, or concern…. I was told to go on the EV FORUMS to see what they said. I really like this car and was prepared to stump up over £52k for it today…. If anyone can refute these figures or explain the 100 mile discrepancy in the range I would be appreciative ( I have photos of display at start middle and end of test to corroborate the range I achieved )

My AWD gets about 240 miles range in UK at 9-10 degC and about 3.2 miles/Kwh, from my eNiro experience, I would expect about 280 mile range in warmer weather. Yes this is a big heavy car, but I love it, superb to drive. I mainly charge overnight at 5p/Kwh, so about 1.5p/mile, not worth worrying about efficiency,Range rover drivers do not worry paying at least 10 times as much. Yes if you regularly do long trips and need to use public chargers then you want max range, but the EV6 can charge very rapidly. If max range is your most important feature, go for the RWD on 19 inch wheels, if like me range is secondary and you want looks and performance, go for the AWD with the 20 inch wheels.

I haven't done a range test myself, but there are several tests on KZbin you can watch to get an idea of what others are getting. You'll never get WLTP in the real world, but from the tests I've seen, the EV6 is better than most of its competitors.

I am so close to ordering one of these the GT line s but can't make my mind up on a AWD or RWD. Spec it up a bit and a heat pump white round about £54.000 for the all wheel drive. At the moment have a KIA 4 NIRO great car, huge spec but look pants.

We have only driven the RWD version in Earth and GT-Line specification, and it is still great to drive, with a lower price tag and more range than the AWD. That said, it would be nice to have the extra oomph of the AWD if performance is your thing! Best of luck with your purchase, whichever you decide to go with!

RWD is good enough - drove it on the weekend - but tame where the AWD has more oomph. For me in the Alps the choice is easy as AWD is a must for winter...

I am testing this afternoon I have already tested the Ioniq5 so this is a real time back to back. I will go for the GT S line I like the glass roof if I feel the RWD has enough oomph I may order it today. If not it’s the AWD. Love the Blue but also the satin silver with the black gloss trim looks superb.

Go for the RWD. It isn’t slow or sluggish at all and you get better handling and range. Best value for money IMO. You are still getting pushed back in the seat when you put your foot down. It’s quite heavy in the rear end too because of the evenly distributed weight of the battery + motor in the back so it isn’t a problem in winter either, and there’s plenty of safety systems.

an okay video, the design looks fine, but the back of the car is not my cup of tea, too small luggage space for me and my family and unfortunately there are very few superchargers that can charge the car, and if those chargers are available I have read that many of them are difficult to deal with and some of them do not work at all. The charging network has the first priority for me the only network at the moment is Tesla. It must be said that I have no electric car at the moment there is no doubt that I will test Kia EV6 when I have to choose electric car next time.

I ordered a GT-line. Both are excellent and both have their advantages. I think the EV6 works better as a car, with a much smoother ride, nicer ventilated seats, 360 camera, warranty, build quality. But the Tesla works better as a statement with greater performance, instant recognition, and a focus on being different for difference's sake.

Wait, did you say the "GT"? The GT uses different seats, I don't know if they are also vegan and ventilated.

@@amperformance7998yes for me the storage and range of the Tesla make me hesitate. The smooth ride and ventilated seats (even tho I live in a coldish place) of the ev6 are very appealing. I'm slightly worried about all the shiny plastic in the ev6 tho. Choices!

Car looks bloody incredible. It's an utter tragedy that this came out in the post pandemic economy where, in my country, dealers expect you to pay $15,000 over sticker for this top trim model. Completely negating the tax incentive for most if not all buyers.

Well, thats ofcourse your opinion:) Compared to Tesla with its minimalistic look it may look "ordinary", but it really is not. It stands out in the crowd as an extremely good looking car with lots of details, both on the inside and especially outside..and the car is an exceptionally good one to. Btw, Kia has made very expensive cars, like the Cadenza, K7/k8 the Stinger..they are not budget and certainly not ordinary..:) You have no idea what youre talking about, but your opinions is as I said yours

expensive junk with junk range and if you drive carefully then you got junk range!! untill they dont invent batteries with 1000+km range with 80+kmh speed and recharging time on the level of refueling gasoline cars just like longevity of batteries EV vehicles are only expensive toys

Level 2 charger at home. To me it's worth it. But if you don't have a home charger then it's much more difficult to own one.

@@peterthompson99 i have a 5 1/2 year old EV, the battery only has 10 out of 12 battery bars left, with a consequential reduced range. Ever since I bought it the rapid charging infrastructure has been garbage and it is getting worse not better because supply is not keeping up with demand, so much so that I never use my electric car on longer distances now, I have given up, instead, although I would rather not, I use my diesel 650 mile range car. At the moment an electric car is the epitome of the horse and cart and has years of improvement before it matches the mature product that is a modern day internal combustion engined car. Sad but true and at an average £10,000 price premium for an electric car which is logistically inferior at the moment.
