in case anyone is wondering, the KIA dealership has the right thermostat, but there’s 2 different sizes depending on the exact model, make sure you prove the last 8 digits of the VIN, i got mine today, they were in stock and came out to 36 and some change, not bad vs what AutoZone wanted to sell me, which was a whole kit including the housing for 264 plus taxes, just an fyi

Great video and well said. My wife's 2016 Kia Optima LX 2.4L check engine revealed code P0128. So, O'Reilly's says $50 but only the 180 degree version they stock. I haven't taken the broken one out yet. I'll see what KIA sells in the parts dept for our VIN #.

@BLUECOLLARGARAGE7 күн бұрын
Sounds like your thermostat gasket is leaking and not sealing all the way. When the vehicle cools or sits overnight that gasket shrinks causing a leak.

Is it really necessary to drain all the coolant out of the radiator I itself not gonna all empty and pour out from the hose that you disconnect from the thermostat
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE9 ай бұрын
Not totally necessary you can just pull the hose but it will make a mess. Or you can drain out about a 1/4 of coolant and that should be enough to drop the coolant level just under the thermostat.

Did you start the car with the radiator open after refill it?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Yes and let it run for a few minutes then put the cap back on so it can build pressure. Take it for a spin or let it get up to normal operating temp and make sure the thermostat opened up. Shut it off let it cool preferably overnight and recheck your level and add any if need be.

@@kryptikarts3922 what is temp guage reading on the dash? Are you getting any heat out of the vents when you have your heater on? Could be a bad thermostat. If your not getting any heat the thermostat could be stuck open thus not letting the engine warm up to normal operating temp throwing your sensor off which will throw that code. Could also be they didn't bleed all the air out of the cooling system when they replaced the engine. Does it say anything about the thermostat in your paperwork?
@kryptikarts39223 жыл бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Temperature reads normal, no heat in vents or any visible leaks or signs of overheating. Its the only code and happens the second time i drive the car after the engine replacement, i currently have my honda in the air for brakes, and my explorer needs suspension work so i didn’t wanna deal with all that though it seems simple, it might be stuck open so i just took it back to their shop for not warranty covered but “complimentary” repair lol

NIce Video, one question though, I have a Santa Fe that uses the same GK4E engine, did change both gasket and thermostar with oem parts, bled the system and all, but now it takes a while to reach operating temp, how long does it take your kia up to operating temp? I have my doubts about that gasket and proper seal, i think coolant is flowing freely and it takes about 5 miles to get to operating temp
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you may still have air in the system or like you said the gasket didn’t seal all the way so coolant is getting past the thermostat before it opens up this taking it longer to heat up and open the thermostat.

@@danielvaldezaguirre I have exactly the same issue - after replacing the Thermostat with OEM part #25500-23010 and Mahle C32422 gasket. I was thinking that the gasket is not sitting properly, and coolant is leaking from the engine to the radiator before the thermostat get opened. I thought even that Thermostat is faulty, but after reading your comment, I am 99% sure that misplaced gasket is the one that causing this issue. I knew about that special indentation in the housing that matches a small arrow but could not find it on my Santa FE Sport 2.4L, 2014. What year is your Santa FE made? Did you make gasket wet to better stick to the housing. Also, the gasket interface from top and bottom looks a bit different. Will it matter which way you placed it on the housing? I am going to drain the coolant again and try to keep the gasket in right position. Did you have normal heat inside the vehicle? I have the heat only when the temperature is set to its maximum. I will appreciate your help.
