Thank you very much! My 2011 Sorento 127k miles recently flagged P2006 DTC- intake manifold runner stuck close. I was able to get the intake runner flaps unstuck. I'm sure it's all carbon build up related. It all makes sense now 👍👍

Great video, thanks! I recently replaced spark plugs in my Hyundai 3.3 L . I really wish that I had known about cleaning the intake valves then, it would have saved having to take it all apart again! BTW- the PCV valve is also buried back there-be sure to check it and clean or replace while you're there.

Excellent presentation! Did you end up replacing the spark plugs while you were there? I plan on doing the plugs and walnut blasting the intake ports here soon on our 2018 Sorento with 135K. Going to install a oil catch can system from Tracy Lewis performance to eliminate or vastly reduce oil dilution and PCV issues associated with the GDI engine. Hopefully, this will be the only time I need to do this cleaning after the installation. Fingers crossed.

Yes i did remplace the spark plug i made another video about it and unfortunately i think that the catch can will help for sure but i will probably have to clean them again because of the carbon comming out of the explosion .... thanks for your support my friend

@@basicdetail4512 Just finished the job on our 18 Sorento 3.3L. I walnut blasted the intakes and changed the spark plugs. With all the masking off and cleaning up, the job took me about six hours. Your video was a great reference. Thanks,

Thank you for this video! The valves don't look that bad, was there technical reason to do the cleaning process? Any signs you've noticed that made you do that? I have a Carnival with 64k KM and I wonder when (if at all) I should clean up the valves, as I'm not getting any engine warnings yet. Also, is there an simpler way to inspect the valves with a borescope without removing the intake manifold?
@basicdetail45123 ай бұрын
That was the first time for those valve to be cleanned and just clean them because i want to change the spark plug at 100k km so i done a while you in there ... those GDI engine gunk the valve and can affect the performance and economy of the car ....inspect those valve even with a borescope seem to me impossible due to the complexity of the intake manifold

Thank you so much for the video, I am about to do this on my Sorento 2014 and you give all the instructions plus a lot of good tricks I did not know. When looking at the Kia repair manual, it says that I should drain the coolant before removing the lower portion of the intake manifold, do you see any reason why I would need to do this? Thanks in advance for your response. Cheers.
@basicdetail451210 ай бұрын
Thanks Bruno I appreciate 🙏! And for your question ... there is coolant feeding the throttle Body but like you see in the video I didn't remove the hose...so I suppose this why they want the system empty ... but a got a memory of a video a saw on youtube ... can't tell witch one ... but I have a kind of memory of a guy pressing a hose and coolant went out of a hole in the lower intake valley witch is on the head close to the windshield... but I don't want to BS you on that point thats all I know ... For sure I don't recommend you to flush the coolant for this job I didn't and everything goes fine until Please give me a feedback on it when you gonna do it , maybe you will see something Thanks to watching

Thanks for the response. I just completed the cleaning today and everything went fine. The car struggled a little bit to start again but nothing major. My Sorento has 175000 km and they cleaning had never been done so they were really dirty. Here is a short video of the valves before I cleaned them. Sorry for the quality, I am not really good at filming. Thanks again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIKZo3yqn9eWrs0 @@basicdetail4512

Did you ever clean the injectors? How? The rails are right under the lower intake manifold.
@basicdetail45125 ай бұрын
Yess they are right under it and nope I didn't clean them ... they are expensive due to the gdi system so i always put cleaner in the fuel every 2 month
@mtherr5 ай бұрын
@@basicdetail4512 ok, thanks. I am considering using a Fuel Injector Cleaner Canister system to clean the injectors…. Wondering if there would be a suitable connection point for this which would allow NOT to dismantle everything to connect to the fuel rails. (Like at the high pressure fuel pump).

What’s the benefit of it: cleaning outside of the combustion chamber?
@basicdetail45128 ай бұрын
With the time you gonna have an insane carbon build up deposit on the valve and that will restric the air flow and get poor engine performance / fuel economy you also risk to bend a valve or a leak of compression because it won't sit properly were it should be ... Google carbon buildup gdi engine you will see how mutch they can be ... Thanks for watching
