In the case of driving at lower speed I must say that one handed steering enables the driver to make a much larger degree of steering wheel manoeuvre and a lot quicker too.I had to put a 7.5tonne vehicle into a sideways skid once as the foot brake failed leaving only the air brake which locked the rear wheels up immediately. I averted a massive collision due to being able to spin the steering wheel almost complete circle which is not possible with two hands.Real experience dictates in the end.

The metal is quite thin in comparison to a European vehicle, hence the vibrations at speed, if one pushed down on the door, when door is open, you can clearly see the metal flex, where door is connected to body, this would never happen on a European vehicle.

deravarraman is probably one of those drivers who drives with the seat right forward, grips the steering wheel with white knuckles and brakes hard when a car pulls out of a side turn 200 metres up the road !!!!!! i also mainly drive one handed, i have been on an advanced driving course and have been driving 25 years, averaging between 20k miles and 30k miles a year, accident free. I own a kia sportage, and it is an amazing car for the money.

True, soundproofing could be better on Kias. But they're learning fast.

I have a sportage and I would like to take you up on a few points, the brakes on mine are excellent, progressive and powerful, as for the handling if I wanted a car to act the way you want it to I would have bought a Jag! Mine goes through phases of interior noise and I think it depends on the temperature of the interior which might sound an odd thing to say but things expand and contract and I suspect this is variations in clearance between surfaces.

I totally disagree with those pedantic drivers who insist that one should have two hands on the steering wheel at all times.This is a falllacy and shows the inexperience of a driver and a blind faith of the highway code like some over zealous fanatic.I agree however that at speed on a motorway two hands should be deployed simply because the amount of steering wheel movement necessary to avoid a collision should be minimal if a safe distance has been adhered to.

had my sportage all over the country towing a caravan etc, to describe as a a town car is a statement from a cretin. Handling is great mine is the 2.0 awd..

I've realised where you're going wrong, your reviews have no context, a BMW 530d is obviously going to be better for motorway cruising than a 1.2 Nissan Micra, however for MPG, insurance and inner city parking, the Micra would be a better bet than the 530d.

That's right. Dont drive with one handed steering folks change gear and use indicator stalks with your teeth or perhaps your feet...trust me after driving for 25 years without one single road traffic accident I know what I am talking about.I wonder how many you have had deravarraman as without a shadow of doubt you must be a mobile and drive user as only someone with road crimes would post such a pedantic message. GET A LIFE.
