Thank You Thomas and Autogefuhl for doing the extra effort with your handy and helpful information about the aesthetic side of the exterior/interior with every vehicle that gets a review as well as driving impressions, observations - visibility, feel, etc. With the new Kia Sportage I really like it's design ( to a degree it's like a sharpened Porsche Macan - especially at the front ). The cabin is really well done compared against the competition. Dash area, control/button lay-out is cohesive., maybe some functions need improving but still acceptable.

Thank you for your calm and relaxing review. I just bought a 2020 Sportage and I really like it so far. I am happy with the quality of this vehicle for the price. I got cloth seats and all-wheel drive. All the interior controls are intuitive. Lots of rear-sear room, and a large cargo area. For the looks, I think the fog lights are awkwardly designed. But if I squint, I think of the Sportage as a Porsche Macan. The one major issue is the mediocre fuel economy--I get 26.5 miles per gallon with the 2.4 liter gas engine making 181hp.

As a Volkswagen man my entre driving life, I must say that KIA has really started to impress me. All I have owned are VW's. The interior of the Sportage is nice. They've done a lot with the exteriors too. I remember 10 or 12 years or so ago when they weren't so much to look at and were so unbelievably top heavy. It's a shame we can't get a diesel option here in the US market. Probably has something to do with all the stuff going on with "diesel gate". I hope diesels survive. I know I'm not alone on this. We just need to develop newer and cleaner fuels. The sulphur content on the diesel we have here is like 15 ppm. In Deutschland I think it's a lot less. Like 8 ppm or something like that. I could be wrong. Great review though like always. You guys should come over here to North America and do some segments. We'd love to have some opinions on some of the makes and models here.

Only suggestion I would have would be to post times that certain information appears in your videos, so viewers don't have to scan for it. Just imagine, you want to put your bike inside, you open the trunk put the front of the bike then you just flip a handle and the reat seats are folded, then you can push inside the complete bike. Comes handy if the bike is without a stander, like a race/mountain bike. otherwise you have to joggle around, risk to either scratch the car or the bike. I have this problem quite often, i understand the comfort of this feature.

@@laszlofabian Ok, but is a biker tipical car owner? For most people it's not important. I don't mind a bit of hustle 5 times a year. And if I need to load big itmes all the time I would buy a van.

@@ILIJA26101993 As all comfort options, this one is also really depends on you. For me it would be very useful, as i often transport larger things, i open the trunk, put some in, then i realize oh it doesn't fit, damn, now i have to put half of it down, go and open the backdoor, flip the seats. I would like to have already in the trunk a lever to pull, but it is just my personal view and i would also not buy a model just because of that.

Here is my Kia experience. Anyone in my position has encountered the same thing from Kia. If you cannot supply them with up to date maintenance records on your vehicle they will not cover it. So for instance, if you change your own oil you're screwed. Might work if you saved all your receipts but very few people are in the habit of saving receipts of them doing their own oil changes. This ploy Kia uses is well documented if you want to look it up, I have, and it’s out there. Also my car would be covered under the SC147 recall as the symptoms of my engine seizing up (engine needs replaced) followed the exact same symptomology as those the manufacturing defect notes in the recall. The recall notice even appears on my Carfax report. Again you can find all the recall information online. The reason my car isn't part of the SC147 recall according to Kia is because it is MPI instead of GDI. All the rest of the engine is the exact same, 2.4L theta II. Kia says that because my car uses a different kind of fuel injection method that it cannot be affected by the metal filings left in the engine block which is what the SC147 recall is all about. That's totally absurd on its face but that's Kia's position. The vehicles Kia did recall was done after many government threats as well as numerous lawsuits brought by disgruntled Kia owners for which there are many. Kia's mother company, Hyundai actually recalled their vehicles for the same problem immediately when the issue was discovered. It took Kia several years later to admit to the problem and issue a recall even though they were well aware of the problem. Where was Kia's concern for people being killed due to this manufacturing defect? A car having its engine seize up on the interstate would be something that would concern most companies immediately but not Kia. Unless Kia completely changes the way it does business they will continue to cost consumers thousands of dollars for defective cars and probably end up killing people due to their own negligence. I had to argue, write emails, file complaints with various entities, etc just to get Kia to actually LOOK at my engine at no cost to me to determine the how and why of the engine failure. Kia refused to cover my car even though it is under warranty and furthermore refused to even LOOK at my car to see what caused the failure. I'm still waiting for a callback from Kia with their assessment. Kia actually agreed to take my valve cover off to take a look at my car once I complained as high up as I could to Kia. This was after several months of my car sitting dead on the Auffenberg Kia lot in Metro east St Louis. Kia actually told me I'd have to pay $1500 up front to have my engine failure looked into initially. My constant pressure on Kia finally got them to say they would take my valve cover off for no fee which costs Kia less than $50 in labor. Kia had no desire whatsoever to know what caused my engine to seize up. Their ONLY concern was to avoid any acknowledgement of any responsibility or liability. Kia already knew what caused the engine to fail. The same thing that happened to hundreds of thousands of the same engines made by Kia and Hyundai. It was the exact same problem as the Kia SC147 recall. Taking the valve cover off will not help. There was no oil leak. No oil smell. Never any indication of any problem with the valve cover. It's simply a ploy for Kia to say we looked at your engine and it's your fault. Who would trust their assessment at this point anyway? I'm out thousands of dollars I still owe on a car without a working engine. Don't you think any car maker worth a darn would want to know why one of their vehicles engines just seized up on the highway? Kia's been super lucky so far no one has died due to their negligence. Additionally a co-worker of mine had a problem with his Kia and will not buy one again either. For his Kia the car required a specific oil filter made and installed by Kia and if that was not used the engine fails. He was never told this when he purchased the vehicle. His insurance successfully sued Kia for over $7,000 for his engine failure. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover mechanical issues. Ever wonder why your Kia never quite gets the gas mileage it was rated to get? Kia has also paid out for a class action lawsuit because they lied about the MPG of many of their models. The very MPG rating that many people base a large percentage of their purchase decision on. Yeah, Kia lied about that too but kept it hush hush. You can find the information online if you look for it. I had my car into the dealership (Auffenberg) several times before the engine failure telling them something is bad wrong with the car. The Kia service department ran every kind of computer diagnostic and could find no reason for the problems which included knocking, major loss of power, major loss of fuel economy and car dying at both idle and speed. Check engine light was always on and every sensor it said was malfunctioning was replaced and it didn't help. Unfortunately I could not leave my car with Kia. Kia wouldn't supply me with a free rental. They said it was against company policy. My step daughter was dying needing a second liver transplant as all this was going on and I couldn't be without that vehicle. With only one vehicle (other than the Kia) I wouldn't be able to get to work or my step daughter wouldn't be able to be cared for properly. I told Kia this and still they refused to get me a rental while they actually got to the root of my car problem and addressed it. Instead they said sorry to hear that, we can't find any problem with your car. They actually let me leave with a car they KNEW was dangerous and about to fail. They didn't care that my family was going through a serious medical situation with my step daughter and the car behaving as it was only increased the stress on my entire family during this time. Fortunately my step daughter got her transplant just in time and is doing ok now. Not only did Kia sell me a defective product but all this happened as our family is going through the stress of a child being deathly ill, lots of additional costs for medical related expenses and Kia was told this and didn't care. Kia added thousands of dollars to my already stressed finances by selling me a defective vehicle. But it gets even better. The Kia rep in Arizona named Steve that handles my case and many others actually told me on the phone that some of Kia's cars die early and that's just the way it is. He insisted all other car manufacturers have the same problem and also refuse to repair the vehicles leaving their customers screwed too. That's certainly not my experience nor that of anyone I know. Steve at Kia flat out told me Kia isn't going to pay and I'm out of luck because I got a bad Kia and have to eat it. That's what he said. That's Kia’s customer service that said that to me. I have to shake my head and laugh every time I call Kia and their recording says "Rated #1 in initial quality 2 years in a row!" Yeah, and dies in 78,000 miles and Kia refuses to make a full recall or honor it's warranty. You won't see Kia winning any customer service awards or vehicle longevity awards. My advice to anyone that has a Kia (ESPECIALLY if it's a 2.4L) is to trade it in and get something other than a Kia before it dies and your left paying off a car that doesn't run. I liked Kia at one time or I wouldn't have bought one. What I've found out since has opened my eyes to the quality of their vehicles and their denials of their own manufacturing defects even if it could cost lives or severely screw consumers over financially. Buying a Kia might make you think you're getting more quality for less money but it's all based upon lies and cover-ups. That is my Kia experience and it's the WORST experience I've had with any company on any level at any time in my 31 (47 - 16) years of driving cars.

Hi Thomas, Just to let you know. I ended up buying the Sportage because of the big price difference, quieter cabin, better ride quality and all the extra tech stuff KIA puts in this car. Cooled seats is pretty nice in a freakin hot country like hong kong. Also I noticed something I have not heard so far. The front lights of the Sportage are very similarly shaped like the TVR SAGARIS! :)

Hi Thomas! Great review again. Now my 09 Golf GT is completely falling apart. ABS pump is broken so no more stability controls left and I am unwilling to get it fixed again (as you maybe remember) The only cars I consider for hong kong where I live now is 2017 Kia Sportage 2.4L Petrol with AWD/highest trim level. Or Mazda CX-5 2.5L Petrol with FWD/highest trim level. The Sportage comes with 18inch and the CX- with 19inch wheels. The test drive was quiter and less pumpy with the Sportage then CX-5. The Sportage is about 3500Euro cheaper in hong kong then the CX-5. I really not sure which one to get. On the one side i like the driving comfort of the Sportage but the CX-5 has more style inside and out (cabin looks nicer with nicer trim pieces and exterior styling is nicer). Any suggestions from you that might help me decide? And pls dont tell me to get a VW :)

+GeminiNite yeah indeed they come close! Both good cars. Is the kia petrol also naturally aspirated? If the kia is much cheaper prolly pick that one. Dont forget to skip genuine leather
@axonmodding
@axonmodding 8 жыл бұрын
Thx so much for your reply. :) Yes it is naturally aspirated but consumes more fuel - maybe because of the AWD? But we only drive around 16k km per year. Not sure if that is enough to get huge savings on fuel cost. Of course I will try to talk to the dealer but hong kong people still think in the old ways of luxury. Sadly. I am with you on no leather. I wish there was no leather option for the best engine and tech spec. We need to change that. :)

Great review, very thorough as always, well done. The video is nicely put together and I like the presenter's style. This Kia is an impressive car. Very good value but, more importantly, the Korean manufacturers are well and truly established, with excellent build quality which is right up there with the best of the Japanese and Euro car makers in the general price range. Kia's 7 year warranty speaks for itself. The styling contemporary and cosmopolitan -- a big change from the 'cut price Korean look' of just a few years ago. I'd say that Kia -- and Hyundai -- have arrived as serious contenders for buyers who want build quality, a bit of design flair and good engineering. There will always be a market for premium brands and a demand for badge status, but a diminished one perhaps as time goes on -- and it's the Japanese and South Korean car makers who will continue to drive this change I think. Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia: I'd say they're all pretty much in the same 'quality segment' now. That means that Kia and Hyundai have come a long way in a short space of time. It took the Japanese manufacturers longer to get up there 40-50 or so years ago.

Thanks Thomas! It took some getting used to, but I actually like the looks of the car. Including the front! :-) The interior is ok, but doesn't really do it for me. Still, it seems to drive nicely and seems to be a good choice. If you want a petrol and automatic, you seem to be stuck with 4WD and high trim levels over here in the Netherlands though. And a starting price for that is then 41.000 (also due to 175 gram CO2 and thus more than 13.000 CO2 tax...).

Hi Thomas! You're doing a great job, I love your reviews. I want to ask you this: What do you think that is a good idea to choose a car between Seat Ateca, Skoda Kodiaq or Kia Sportage. I want a family car, with automatic transmission and a relative good fuel consumption. I make around 15.000 km / year. Petrl or dieasel. Thank you very much and I am a fan of you-re channel. Keep up the good work and sorry if my english is a little bad :D ... All the best!

Man, that's a noisy gearbox ... a lot of "clanks" sounds every time you shift a new gear, also, the car bumps a lot ! When I test drove this car I once drove over a small hole on the road and the car did a huge bump that even changed the radio station ... it's a very hard suspension car and not so comfortable The interior material and build quality is way lower than a Tiguan, and technologically is light year far behind from any VW SUV .

I like your thorough automobile reviews, but I could do without the bleeding heart vegan guilt trip about what the seats are made of. And there is NO WAY I'm buying a low-end trim line and missing high end features just to get cheap cloth seat covers to save a cow. Please keep your commentary limited to how good the car is and save the anti-leather seats noise.

Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic! First to the practical reasons: 1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat 2. they are cold in winter 3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa Now to the environmental reasons: 1. There are productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable part of the body. 2. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals 3. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? 4. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ Special videos: 1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpecYn6dl7uVgLM 2. And another one right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qn6xmJaCepV_erc 3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJrTiqmredh8bNU timecode starting 27:46 Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

Practical reason retorts: Note that I own a 2011 Kia Optima Turbo with leather seats, so I have 5 years experience with leather seats. 1. I don't drive in the nude, so even in the summer (when I wear shorts) my skin is never exposed to the seats for them to stick. 2. Again, in the winter I am nicely covered in clothing and a coat, so I never know if the seats are cold or not. 3. I am a dude that is always hot. My seat ventilators in my Optima are on almost all year, except for the coldest of days. 4. Leather CAN wear out quickly if not properly treated. But leather also makes it easy to clean up spills or other messes that my 2-year-old daughter can sometimes make. I would have several stains on my back seats now if I did not have easy-to-clean leather surfaces. As for your environmental reasons... I realize that some methods of slaughtering animals can be brutal. My original point was not about whether a person should or should not be vegan, rather that these opinions should not make their way into your otherwise professional assessments of automobiles. If you feel strongly about the materials from which a company makes its cars that should be a topic for another set of videos. When I watch your vids I want to know how well the car is made, how its features work and how well it drives. I don't need to hear about animal products used. I prefer leather seats and you're not going to convince me that I should not in the context of a review video. This is especially true when a consumer cannot usually get the full compliment of available features on a car without selecting a higher trim line, which likely has leather seats. I'm the kind of person who buys the best version of whatever it is I'm shopping for... cars, guitars, TVs, whatever. I'm not going to settle for a low trim line just to get cloth seats and miss out on things like navigation, HID headlights and panoramic sunroof.
