Kia Stonic - What you need to know
The engine selection for the Kia Stonic is basic. There is no diesel engine available; instead, you may choose between two 1.0-litre petrol engines with either a manual or an automatic transmission. Kia Stonic has equipped the most powerful of the two engines with mild-hybrid technology, which reduces pollutants while improving fuel efficiency. This helps you preserve the environment while also saving money.
It accelerates somewhat more quickly from 0-60mph (10.4 seconds), and if you're just cruising about town, you won't have to rev the engine over 1500rpm very often. But the good news doesn't end there; if you want a little more power, it will happily crank away, and reaching highway speeds isn't a problem at all.
It reacts to driving inputs with remarkable vigor and maintains its upright position through turns that would force the Citroen C3 Aircross to tip over significantly. Regardless of whether you're in the middle of a turn and the road suddenly gets rough, the Kia Stonic maintains its composure. The steering isn't very responsive, but it is accurate and well-weighted in the straight-ahead position, making it simple to maintain your lane on a highway.
Both of the Kia Stonic's gasoline engine choices are respectably refined in their own right. When you rev them up, you can still hear them thrumming away, but the sound is more of a nice rasp than an obtrusive clatter. At highway speeds, all Kia Stonic’s are subjected to wind and road noise; nevertheless, the T-Roc 1.5 TSI is an excellent choice if you want even more peace and quiet.
In comparison to the Puma's six-speed manual transmission, the Kia Stonic's basic six-speed manual transmission is sleek and simple to handle, albeit not nearly as pleasurable to use. The seven-speed automatic transmission, on the other hand, isn't very smooth, and you'll be able to tell when it's shifting through the gears.
While the stop-start system is in operation, the mild-hybrid system installed in the T-GDi 118 allows for smooth engine restarts, and a sophisticated clutch mechanism enables the vehicle to coast when in gear, allowing for increased fuel efficiency. It may make judging how fast to slow down difficult, though, since you never know when the regenerative braking mechanism would kick in to charge the battery and recharge the battery. When this occurs, the automobile slows down far more rapidly than it does at other times.
As a result of its relatively narrow windshield pillars, the Kia Stonic is a vehicle that is quite simple to see what's in front of you from behind the wheel. The view from the other direction isn't too awful, either. Despite the fact that the back pillars are substantial, the rear screen is rather deep. Every Kia Stonic is equipped with rear parking sensors as standard, which makes parking even more convenient. The GT-Line and above trim levels are equipped with a rear-view camera, while the GT-Line S adds front parking sensors to the mix. Automatic headlights are standard on all Stonics, but you'll need Connect or above to receive automatic wipers.
The Kia Stonic's infotainment system is really rather impressive, and it compares well with the systems seen in competitors' vehicles. You'll receive a high-definition touchscreen display as well as a DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring, all as standard on the X5. The touchscreen is located high on the dashboard and is easy to view, with big icons that are simple to press even when driving at high speeds.
