In reality the girls were never that good of friends to Bree. And they should have really kept that scene with Susan telling the girls she's leaving.

I never understood why Bree had to take the fall for Alejandro’s murder. Carlos actually committed the crime, and they all covered it up. All of her “friends” quickly abandoned her when the situation got out of hand. Gaby was willing to let Bree go to prison, fully aware that her husband was guilty! Susan felt so racked with guilt, she painted a series of pictures that depicted the crime scene, yet Bree was vilified. Carlos should have come clean, they all should have explained the situation to the judge.

She chosed to protect Carlos (and Gaby) as a "compensation" for lying to them about Andrew killing Carlos'mother. But you're right she's a better friend than they're to her.

There are some scenes I can see why they deleted them, they didn't fit with the new storyline (evidently they changed order of events while in the middle of filming). There's a few good scenes here though that I think could've been kept.
