Why are the piano sequences( which are the most prominent sound of any when they are heard) played on a backing track and not played live here? While I respect them as really talented composers who've created one of the best electronic music albums I've heard in a long time, surely they can be a bit more ambitious when playing live instead of just layering some synth and string sounds onto a pre-existing track.

+Kevin Wade You're right, but if you need convincing that Olafur Arnalds is a real pianist or not, well check out his solo stuff, under the name Olafur Arnalds. There (in his own project), it's 90% all real instruments. It's way better than Kiasmos in my opinion. Check it out if you haven't already! Hope you enjoy

+Kevin Wade Yeah, to clarify, it's him on piano, violin and double bass! Rather beautiful. He does have ambient sounds happening on his computer, but they are playing. It's a cool balance! So I'm glad he's so versatile and willing to experiment with different things. Very creative guy

Posers Synth Yep, pushing play in ableton and barely tweaking a filter is not a live performance. You normally don't get such a close look at what guys are doing who do this music and call it a live performance. To those who know how all this stuff works it's pretty obvious they aren't doing anything or much of anything.
@nicolausala
@nicolausala 9 жыл бұрын
yes they use kaoss pad for put some fx sometimes the other guy is using arturia brute every time ... it is a mono synth !!! he is just playing some effected notes... but he is always tweaking knobs. without response. my god I was liked the album... I wouldn't like to see them live

+Jorge Cumbre It probably depends on the context whether it's boring or not. I remember seeing Bonobo live a couple of years ago and I almost expected it to be a transformative experience... *that's* how much I like Bonobo and how much I expected to like it. Unfortunately, I thought it was boring and that the bass was mixed too high. I just felt irritated. I bet in a different setting, it would have been an amazing gig.

just discovered this May 2022! been a fan of Olafur for a while and even got to see one of his shows in London a few years back. Today i was listening to a mix of ambient chill stuff, this group popped up but just the screen shot of the groups name. loved the track 'held', searched for it and then this came up! its only flipping Olfaur!! isn't it just mad how things like this happen!! nearly 10 years late to the party but I'm now hearing this all for the first time which might make some jealous, as i must admit, i wish i could go back to some groups and experience that first listen feeling with again.......
