Idk if it helps you, but recently, kibbe "explained" that what he means by "width" is upper width, therefore, width around the shoulders and upper back, since that width changes how fabric hangs on the body (It's opposed to the "width" romantics can have, since their "width" comes from flesh and not structure.)

i always heard it described more or less as an hourglass silhouette, created by the curvature of one's flesh rather than their bone structure

You can have an “hourglass figure” while not having double curve. Double curve does not account for any length, so you can be tall or have a long torso and still be an hourglass while not having double curve. That’s because the “fruit system” doesn’t take length into effect, while Kibbe does.

@@impish_snake3526ahh. could i clarify this w you then? like you said, it seems like there are two different kinds of hourglass figures: one is the result of bone structure, where a tapered rib cage, thin waste and protruding hips are what create the hourglass shape (NOT Kibbe double curve.) the other results from flesh, where fuller breasts, hips & butt are what create the hourglass shape (Kibbe double curve?) is this correct or do i still not get it 😂

@@nicolette7007 It’s simply a matter of elongation. For example, I have a prominent bust and wide hips with a narrower waist, but it is evident I do not have double curve because the space between my hips and bust is too long-that narrower part of my body is not a simple cinch and my waist is almost long. I have a longer torso than someone like Marilyn Monroe, whose body is just a very evident curve-cinch-curve. The visual elongation is what matters here, and it’s why people over 5’5” can’t have double curve-somewhere in their torso, that hourglass becomes elongated rather than compact. Edit: Sorry to ramble, but the difference becomes evident when looking at the Romantic versus the Soft Dramatic. Both often have that classic “hourglass” shape, but the Soft Dramatic has a longer torso, and the curve does not appear to immediately protrude. We may have narrower waists than our hips and bust, but at the end of the day, the space between hip and bust is far greater than the petite and compact Romantic type would have.

It will create inelegant wrinkles around your waistline, so you need waist definition to avoid this effect. 》???

Curve (in kibbe) is made of flesh (fat, imo but ppl dont like the word so they say flesh instead). Flesh it can be squished. Bones cannot be squished. You will have wrinkles if its thick fabric but its ONLY at the bust and hips. They need the waist emphasis, not to avoid the wrinkles but because if they dont, the fabric will be pushed out and your whole torso will look really wide bc of that. Also bc itll be uncomfortable. If you have curvy hips and wear straight leg trousers, itll feel way too tight at the hips and make you look "sexy" rather than professional. If Marylin didnt have that shirt thcked in, she would look fat because the top would connect the bust to the hips and create a rectangle or square shape. You can see how her waist is right on top of her hip bones. So for thise without "curve" at the hips, can still have wide looking hips but theyre wide due to the bone structure and instead of having fleshy hips, the widest part will be a lot lower than the actual hip bone. (Look at jennifer love Hewitt for example) In kibbe, curve is a continuous line like the letter S or 8 You can have curvy hips but if you dont have the bust curve, you dont have kibbe curve. You can have bust curve but if you dont have curve at the hips, you dont have kibbe curve. You can have curve at the hips and bust but have "wide" shoulders (long collarbone) aka width and so you dont have double curve. The reason she has double curve is because her shoulders are narrower than her torso Look at the right side of her body, If you drew a line from the bust up to her shoulders, it would create a ) shape Soft naturals dont have double curve because their shoulders are not narrow and if they wear something like turtlenecks, theyll feel uncomfortable, get wrinkles at the collarbone area and they will look like they are choking or loke its too tight (look at scarjo or j.lo in a turtleneck) Look at a picture of marilyn or Elizabeth taylor in a button up shirt, you can see how the shoulders are so small that it makes the shoulders look like a circle or like its too big on them. It literally wont fit in that area and it wont "hang" the way it would on a wire hanger. The shirt wont have structure up there. Vertical is elongation so the bust waist and hips will be much further apart and if they wear mini skirts or something like that, itll look awkward like its too short (look at cameron diaz or cindy crawford in a mini dress) On someone like Keira Knightley or Claire Danes their torso is really long and if you draw over it, itll be made of straight lines. Id recommend looking at pictures of them in normal clothes rather than red carpet because usually they wear gowns that change the way the shape of their body actually looks. Also, you dont need a big bum, big hips or big bust for double curve. Look at mila kunis or jada pinkett they look very straight but because their bodies are tiny and dont have width OR vertical, their bust and hips are on top of eachother and push fabric out a little, they need to wear a certain CUT of fabric to show off their figure.

DUDE! For the LONGEST time I thought I had a Dramatic or Natural body type because of how tall I am (I’m 5’7-5’8) but wasn’t until I took photos in a bodycon dress and other tight fabrics that I realized having soft my features were despite looking skinny. This video also made me realize just how much fabric and straps tend to just loosely hang on me instead of actually staying on! 💀

@@StarOnTheWater Yang types gain weight from the waist down. And look like a classic 'pear' shape. I often see yang women who have wider hips than yin women but yin women have curves on their hips, which is what makes them yin. Although weight gain patterns are highly hormonal, in Kibbe, below the waist is generally YANG and above is generally YIN (face, breasts, forearms,…etc)

Marylin has double curve while Jane does not. But they are both “conventionally curvy” ladies in my opinion! 💕

@@yinspirations4656 Why does she not have it? One is 2'' taller than other.. Also Christina H. or Sophia L. - how's that not double curve? Not every SD has long legs or long torso. Christina H is great example. Not even much of vertical there. Average. No matter how hard people try to rationalize Kibbe, it's impossible, since he'll show up with some exception that will confuse the issue all over again.

I agree that the system is just plain confusing in some ways 😅 but as for double curve I tend to think of it in terms of “lacking”. So while any archetype can have curves that look very pronounced and hourglass in shape, there is a subsection of curvy people that lack things like angularity and length. These people, due to not having much structure in their silhouette, will then be left with ONLY those curves to accommodate (double curve in kibbe). Idk if this is clear but maybe I’ll make a long form video about it. Hope this helps in the meantime 💕

you can, but it depends on your most dominant features. tr's like jada pinkett smith and mila kunis are like that and romantics like christina ricci and bernadette peters (whos more wide than chesty but still lush). romantics have small, short bones and are rounded all over. they also accommodate curve, which means more about how your skin drapes over your bones than how much fat you have. im not an expert so take this with a grain of salt! gabrielle aruuda has much better explainations if you wanna know more

Yes, with double curve, the bust waist and hips are very close together. Because the curve at the legs will be long. If they wear like a super mini dress, the skirt part of it wont be long enough to show your curve. Itll stop in the middle of the curve and look awkward. Kibbe essentially wants your clothing to fit the shapes in your body. He wants the fabric to be able to touch all of those shapes. If you wear a mini skirt, the fabric wont touch the entire curve from beginning to end. If you look at monica belucci vs kate winslet (both 5'7 iirc) youll see that Monica has a longer circle on the bottom half of her body. Like an oval. Her legs look longer too. If you look at monica in pants, her legs look like long sticks but she still has curvy hips. Same with Barbra Streisand. Also, they dont have the same vibe. Kate looks kind, voluptuous, soft, dreamy, sweet, friendly, etc. Monica looks more intimidating, domineering, sexy, etc. if one could work as a dominatrix, who would pull off the look best? Monica If Kate literally bumped into Monica, just by looking at them, who do you think will fall to the floor? Probably Kate. Kate also looks "chubby" without being fat. Aka, you dont see her bones through her skin. For example, Sarah Jessica Parker looks muscular, firm and boney even though she isnt stick thin or anything You get the same vibe with Sophia Loren.
