my 1984 cr 500 did this 3 times today nearly broke my foot lol , people who are thinking of getting one of these bikes make sure you wear steel slate work boots when starting a 500 they have no decompression valve so they will keeep on building and building compression be carefull fellas Cheers

i have a four stroke 550 that actually has a decomp and even then the thing won’t just stop in place like this video, it wil literally launch the kick start arm back up and can pick your whole body up if your standing on it

My friend had a dr500 and I had a xt500 they both had decompression levers. The dr the lever was broke. That made for lots of funny moments especially with loud mouth people who know so much about bike riding.

Can relate, late 90's just 19 year old and left leg was nearly double the size of my right leg kicking my maico 490 bored out with no decompression switch. Swapped it out for a 90 kx500 in the end. It's not how much beef you have behind the kick but more technique.

I had one.Start it by putting it in gear and rocking it back and fourth to get some gas in the cylinder than find tdc and kick it.Fires right up 1st or 2nd kick.

So the CR500 cases are subject to being split around the starter spindle. When you kick start the bike in this way, the kick back from the kickstart acts as a "force multiplier", and slams up against the internal stopper. There is a thin seam around the ear of the kick spindle, and its very fragile and many of cr500 has broken cases around this area because of the same technique you use to start it. AJ Waggoner sells cases that are fortified around this area, but it comes at a huge cost.

I tried starting my 05 Trx450r without a boot once. If you’ve ever ridden one you know the kick is forward. My foot slipped, starter whipped back up and kissed my shin. That was the last time i started without boots.

zu frühe Zündung - ergo , zündung mal wechseln - bei Meiner CR500 HONDA war der Kontaktstift wohl einen hunderstel zu kurz und so mußte die komplette zündung neu , weils diesen Stift nur komplett gibt , bei honda . Habe es gebraucht gekauft , gewechselt und voila , Honda sprang wieder richtig an , ohne Rückstoß . 98er honda cr500 mit cdi

OK, how to start with a left hand kick start. Always wear motocross boots. 1. Tickle the carb. 2. Stand on the bike stand or ground that is higher than the bike ie a high kerb. 3. Push over the kick start slowly until it hits top dead center and stops. 4. Ease it over TDC with a bit of pressure. 5. reset the kick start by lifting it up. 6. Using all your weight, give it a fast jab. 6. Do not be half hearted as in this video or it will break your foot. PS. It helps to be 6ft 2" and 180lb.otherwise buy a 250.
