You ever tried mixing Ezdrummer kicks? They cover every inch of the frequency range in all its glory. Thumping 50hz, the 250hz tub, the crack up high. From 20hz to 20khz those Ezdrummer kicks slay and dominate. All your frequency range are belong to us. Good series bro.

Awesome! Nice presentation, coherence, with logic and workflow considerations.

It depends. This tutorial focuses on close micing the kick. If you've captured your drums without a close mic on the kick, it may help to pay attention to these frequencies within your room mics. In most cases though, you'd want to process the room mics to better highlight the ambiance of your entire drum set, using different processing techniques.

Actually I find 400 hz is the real problem with drums. In fact when people ask me the secret to a good drum sound wether it's the kick, overheads, room, sometimes toms and snare as well. I tell them to cut 400hz. Obviously you have some fine tuning to do but you get the general idea.

First of all let me thank you because what you show here is pure gold. Second: A question if I may... So obviously you recommend to keep the mic OUT of the drum, but what about when the kick drum is not very well tuned or isn't tuned at all?
@JH_Drums11 жыл бұрын
Firstly, I would absolutely recommend tuning the kick drum before you even begin placing mics. If you have the inputs available to you, it's best to mic both inside the kick (attack) and outside (body) and combine the two mics when mixing. If you only have a single input allotted for the kick, then mic inside the shell and follow the steps outlined in this tutorial. You can do your best to remove offending frequencies of a badly tuned kick with eq, but it's far better to tune from the start.

First off great tutorials man, couldn't be any clearer. Now I have 2 questions for you mate, or anybody out there. 1. Are the kick and snare gated before you start the EQ in your videos? 2. What order do you process the sources? ex.gate-eq-compression-effect Thanks very much.

Hey Greg - Nice job w tutorials. I am going to watch all of these because your doing such a great job! I'm already incorporating some of your stuff and my mixes are sounding better! I know you're on logic - I'm using pro tools, but what software are you using to do screen capture? Wallflower? Or something else. It's amazing how complicated it is trying to use pro tools with something like quicktime.

Thanks for all the videos! they really help me a lot! I have a stereo room track in my session, can I do the same process as in the overhead track? or it needs another process? Thank you! (I'm sorry about my english, I'm from spain...)
@grongli11 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I have not explained well. I was talking about the procesing of the entire drum set on the room track. Write my comment in the kick drum tutorial has not been a good idea.
