Thanks for this! I find shootouts lead to our most scientific conclusions. imo the e602ii still sounds the best out of the box! and confirmed that the beta52 is somewhere at the bottom

I am rather surprised, as Beta52A is marketed as a kick drum mic, but in these tests it sounded great on bass cab but really poor on kick drum...

On bass cabinets its all about the mids, and the 52 has a really prominent boost around that 1kHz to 3kHz area, so right where the bass growl lives. Kick drum the complete opposite. You want just that 55hz thumb and a high end snap somewhere around 4kHz to 6kHz

Great Video and good tests... At first: I have the Sennheiser e901, the Sennheiser e902, the SHURE Beta91A and I often use the SHURE Beta52 (when I'm working for different Bands or Companys). I'm a huge Sennheiser Fanboy BUT... normally the SHURE Beta91A is the easy one and the Sennheiser e901 is the "picky" one. But in this Test the Beta91is absolutely not the winner, the Beta52 is really muddy and I'm really surprised by the e602 (normally for me it's tooooo "boomy").

Which mic is the 2nd one? And which is the 5th. I like the sharp attack of both, the 2nd & the 5th microphones.

The second one is Sennheiser e602 and the fifth one (the flat sharp edged one) is the Shure Beta 91A. The sennheiser one is like 150 euros (on thomann) and the Shure 91 is 322 euros (at this day)

100% Agree. It is such a shame that everybody uses this mic just because it is "the standard" even tho it is literally the worst mic for the kick

I almost bought one! So glad I didn’t. I bought a vkick and it’s amazing
