Thanks for making this video! I own a Beyer M88 Classic that I love, but the E902 was my favorite of them all...especially inside the kick.

Senn e902 was my favorite, but then you added the diy sub and it became orgasmic! Schon sehr schön!

Definitely a good demo of these mics. The beyerdynamic TG50d kick IN eq on example in my opinion sounds record ready. Seriously astonishing.

I thought the RE20 and M88TG brought out some useful tone that seemed missing on a lot of the other mics.

oh man . . . tons of difference between the mics. Much more then I expected. The mxl was on my wishlist .... now I am not so sure. Cool video and cool drums too. I'll go for the 441.

That Beta 52a inside the kick sounds soooooo good. As does the E902

The subkick alone was a nice comparison.

The E902 sounded very good both in (slightly muffled) and out. Makes me think it's best to get a pair of that, MD421, and TG50d and mix them up to taste. The M88TG was also interesting but sounded so rumbling to me. Many thanks for the vid!

M88TG....More detail more punch...Might have to get one to replace my BETA 52a thats sounds great but is dull and less defined

I learned in university about a study on auditory memory which demonstrated conclusively that when tasked with recalling auditory information the brain is handicapped when irrelevant or extraneous auditory information is introduced at the same time or immediately after the auditory information targeted for retention. This is why your playing the other drums is really not helpful if the goal of your video is to allow the listener to efficiently compare these samples. Though it seems attractive to provide "in context" samples it was in fact, for me at least counter productive to comparing the various mics. All the same I enjoyed and appreciate the video and your time in making it. If you ever update this test I would like to see the ubiquitous Shure 57 thrown in for reference.

I know. all that odd timing stuff made this vid unhelpful. A simple beat for 2 bars woulda been way less distracting.

I was surprised how much I liked the Beyer TG50d, even tho it's rated as a handheld vocal mic. I could be wrong, but was he using a second mic when using the TG50d? It looked like there were two in the skin hole.

TG70d outside with eq sounds a lot like the D6 and the M88, ATM 250 sounds very similar to D112

Where were you pointing the mics inside the kick? Directly at the beater?

@pierre-andregueguelarpin14734 жыл бұрын
Some people clim that the M88 is the universal mic for all kicks, personally it's the mic with I had the biggest numbers of problems to try to have sound on kicks but it is a really good mic on strong horns typically, trumpet, cornet and sax,without touching the EQ they become more smooth.BUT TAKE CARE because the "old" one used in the 90' was the m88 the one we find now is the 88 TG. I didn't have the oportunity to make the comparison.

It's really hard to compare the mics with your "wild" and bit sloppy playing style. Also each phase is so short...nice effort though. Maybe if there's a "next time" I suggest playing something more simple - makes it easier to judge the microphones.
