Finally an actual drummer that does a mic shoot out. Usually it's just some goober looking for a reason to make a video for whatever reason. Excellent everything. Playing, tuning, content.

Yeah exactly, some goober, hilarious and true!

The e602 II and e902 are my favorite kick mics. They just punch you right in the chest even without eq. But this was an excellent demo for those of us who really want to know and your playing and music choice was very nice as well. Thanks...

Indeed! Everything sounded mediocre, or worse, until the 902 hit. Game over. I prefer the 602 even more.
That’s one of the best mic-comparison videos that I’ve seen. Thank you.

e902 sounds awesome. And the Beta 52 sound is cool! Excellent job dude!!!! Thanks, I’m building my new studio, and I’m a drummer so this helps a lot.

Nice Video! Fun Fact, I have always hated the e902 but with your kit, this is the best, well balance between natural and punchy sound! I'll give him a second chance!

Thanks for this helpful shootout! RE20 has the nicest chest punch. Would have liked the Audix D6 in the comparison instead of i5.

if you add a little bit of 60hz on e902 you have a perfect kick sound without minimal effort. Pretty amazing.

The SM57 can hang with those other mics! I like the knock it adds, I could totally see myself having a 57 in to get some attack and something subbier as an outside mic

Great way to test mic's with the full mix, solo and then full kit solo. The RE20 really stands out ot me but it also sounds a fair amount louder but that could just be the way it cuts.

I really like the Beta 52 and I'm also impressed by the SM57 compared to specialized microphones. It never disappointed in versatility.
@Nachi_Keta3 жыл бұрын
i just got the beta 52 and like in this video, i miss the brutal "oomph" sound & punch (no eq used). i am still a beginner. do i have to eq/edit it in post production? my tom mics and toms sound brutal and fat by default. first i thought the mic was broken!
@v.rucciinkmusic89783 жыл бұрын
@@Nachi_Keta eq and edit is a fundamental part of the fun. Some equipment just make it a lit of bit easy, but mixing is a very dynamic process. It all depends on the other instruments that are fighting in near frequencies, so we always need to change a lit of bit here and there to find the right balance for the context that we are searching for. Try to tweark with the volumes of the tracks before you put some EQ in the signal. It may help. Another thing is to not let all the instruments right in the center, every part need its own space. These two things are a god way to start. You can google it to learn more things, but in the end, to play with the knobs and ear the results is the best teacher that you can find.

Thanks a lot, I didn’t expect a great tip like this so fast! I will try this out. Keep on grooving!

RE20 for more natural sound and Beta 52A if you want it a little pre-EQ'd. Great playing!

Excellent comparison. I liked the AKG but think the Beta 52 had the best sound. I use a Beta 52 combined with a Beta 91A and they are AMAZING together!

Great sounds, I liked the 441and the d12, but the EV27 was that fitted better with the bass and gts IMO. Thanks for that.

The low end from the B52 is undeniable, even being unnatural soloed, it just sums wonderfully. My preferred is actually the Beyer M88TG.
@underpressureman5 жыл бұрын
Man I really liked the RE20. The AKG was awesome as well but there definitely the kind of mic that needs abit of love from an EQ, but huge bottom end! And ya the E-902 sounded great too, definitely more of that classic pre EQ'd and scooped sound, but it's not as drastic as with the other one Audix makes, what is it the D6? Anyway, I can't stand that mic. The only way I would use it is if I had no access to an EQ. I would honestly rather use an I5 or 57 over the D6 lol!

Absolutely perfect drum recording 👌 where can we hear the album?!

It’s an expensive mic but try out the Neumann TLM-193, large diaphragm condenser. I would not take it to a bar gig but it’s my favourite for recording kick (and other things).
@robertbrowning4310 Жыл бұрын
Nice shoot-out. I would have liked to see the mic placement a little better. The rest of the kit sounded real good & I liked the Tom mics ,ATM's I think!
@masecardrums Жыл бұрын
As far as placement goes, I had the diaphragms exactly even with the plane of the head, in the center of the hole.

nice shootout, but hey, what`s title of the track (nice grungy theme)?
@shanelandstrom15974 жыл бұрын
I liked the re20. I've been using the Chandler TG for kick, may be a bit overkill for a kick mic but it'll take some serious spl. Was using a 421 but now I can use my two 421 for toms. Kicks really vary as to which will sound best for a particular kick drum. It's good to have a variety. the 441 sounded good also

really dig the song and awesome playing / setup! killer comparison. What do you prefer for a snare dampener? is it a cymbal felt?
@marcuslrobinson4 жыл бұрын
1st. Is between the 53A and the e902 then second is the Audix i5.

That's just a cymbal felt on a strip of gaff tape. Totally stole the idea from Paul Leim.

I agree with your findings that the D12E is the way to go and the Beta 52A is nice but it has a weird 1990s thrash clicky high end that just makes any mix sound cheap (bar band bullsh t). I prefer a D12 in the shell with a large condenser out front and a pencil (C451/SM81) on the beater side (as can be heard on several LZ tracks, listen for Bonham's pedal squeak, that's NOT his hats pedal squeaking - only way to get that is a beater side pencil). A beater-side mic gets that TWAMP of a tom mic because it actually has the free air pressure around it to be able to focus on what the head is doing. Inside the shell a mic isn't free to do much but resonate. Resonance is cool and necessary but it doesn't cut or add any dynamics to the hits. Johns did more than the 3-mic setup he's known for for Bonham, you can hear it in the tracks if you know what to listen for and how.

I've watched this comparison at least 4 times. I will concur that the D112 live up to its reputation. I also agree that the Beta 52 had massive punch, and thick low end. Both RE-20 incarnations worked adequately. The 441 mid rise would be better suited for snare.The 421 for toms only. I liked the realism of the e902 possesses accurate realism. I wish that you could have had the EV N/D 868, the Audix D6, the Beyer Dynamic TG D71c, the Shure SM7B, and the Audio-Technica AE-5100 along with the other contenders. Your playing is steady, with outstanding control of dynamics. I hope you consider another shootout featuring the models I listed. Thanx.
