The internet (and honestly it seems like the cultural norm) has made us believe that you have to pick a side, and if you are critical of something, you must be on the other side... especially if someone likes the thing you're being critical of.

10/10. Excellent review, Cody. The lack of moderation is…less than ideal, but also I didn’t even think about the missing editing tools. This video made me realize that even though Twitch has a mile-long improvement list, it does offer a wild amount of creator options. Favorite moments: 🥁, 🫡, 🚗, ⚪️ - gets me every time

Very insightful video, and love the wit and humor :D . I will say the largest issue with Kick for me isn't the technical side per se. The issue is I think it's engaging in a false and unsustainable marketing strategy to streamers; Stake is essentially peddling snake oil. Boosting with subs and botting along with a subsidized 95% offer are designed to get streamers to come over, but it also assumes that viewers will naturally follow. That's not what happens. Kick is going to need to find a way to directly appeal to viewers to come over. An ad free experience is not enough, not will it last. As you stated, they need to add more features (e.g., channel points) to make it appealing. If not enough viewers come, the site will fail. Regarding the sustainability of the "boosting strategy" (i.e., "fake it till you make it"), at some point Kick's owners are going to have to curb it to make the site tenable. They will have to curb and control bots, or advertisers won't touch the site (they don't won't want to spend money if they think most eyeballs are fake). Regarding the 95% cut, it's simply too high an offer even if the site gets lucrative ad contracts; a healthy profit will require a significant reduction, although the optimal pay could still be fair (e.g., 70%). Finally, much of the subs are simply marketing. It's not going to be permanent. I expect a drop off over the next few weeks to months. In the end, many streamers could end up in a position where they have few real viewers with lesser subs and pay then they had from streaming on other platforms. If Kick is going to be a serious platform, it's going to need to adopt a genuine business model by necessity. But even if the stakeholders do make necessary changes, I don't see the site being a serious competitor to Twitch. Microsoft and Facebook both failed, and I don't see any good reason to think Kick will do any better. If anything, it has less of a chance because of the various problems mentioned in the video. We'll see what happens, but call me a skeptic. If people wish to stream there I will support their decision, but I will not tolerate attempts to persuade that the site, in its current state, is legit or real. Right now, it's pretty analogous to a fraud.

@@CodyRiffs I believe the site has potential of course, and I don't mean to come across as denigrative of people who stream there. I want streamers to be successful in their endeavors and get fair pay. This is why I'm concerned. I only worry that many streamers are not properly assessing risks. What I do believe, is that if Kick's supporters wish for the site to be a success, they should accept the criticisms, acknowledge the real problems, and seek changes and a roadmap which will give it a fighting chance.

Good video ;) PS: I am a glass invisible streamer with tons of videos and streams on YT and TTV, because I don't follow rules and don't promote myself anywhere... doing it for fun... and no one cares about my content. Just saying, there are people give more value to some comments if they are done by high rated channels... mine is not ;)

Really put some deep thought into my mind, I been debating I should switch since I am a small streamer and some people say I have talent with certain games I play but its all bark and no bite, This also help me understand that twitch is my home right now where I got affiliated and pushed by a cdl pro Caesar Skyz and Dignitas creator Herculyse, I like the optimism of keeping this real and 100%, Cant find honest people now days or they are just full of yes men, Love the honesty and you have my sub and hopefully I will catch you on twitch. Personally I prefer streaming on a newer platform. On twitch you are competing with millions of millions of creators. Kick it’s a bit simpler there. I get it if your content is not good enough don’t be a creator and all that but I do enjoy streaming and I enjoy interacting with people. On twitch that is difficult. On kick doable. I’ll give it some time if things work out then good cause twitch is getting worse. If they don’t well it’s back to amazon and whatever they decide to do to make things difficult.

I get that. Kick isn’t nearly as saturated right now but my guess is that whatever problem with views someone has on Twitch will not be fixed by Kick. Still gotta stand out somehow to get noticed.

On twitch you are absolutely under the barrel when you have 0-1 viewers no one will even consider you and you won’t get any kind of exposure. I don’t know what the solution to this honestly and this is why i tend to go to less populated platforms with potential. The standing out part I do agree with but let’s be honest. If you are only streaming and i mean only streaming it is difficult to get any exposure that is even true of kick but the exposure on there is a bit easy and so is networking. The only people that talk to me on twitch are people that promote making overlays 😅
