For extra context: Amyl's dress was referencing Australian queer artist David McDiarmid 🏳️‍🌈❤️😊

I'm glad someone else recognised that. It's weird Amyl didn't mention that at all. The look was cool, just her reinterpretation of the message didn't really make any sense in the context of McDiarmid's work and the conceptual twist she was trying to add on to it.

Do you think Bumpa Love’s outfits were the wrong way round? Maybe she had intended to wear the green dress for the Mardi Gras “runway”, realised it was actually a challenge and she couldn’t dance in it, so wore her rainbow runway outfit in the challenge because it was easier to move in?

The fact that not a single look Ashley Madison wore in the episode fit correctly drove me absolutely insane. Like 3 wardrobe malfunctions in a row? Oof. So unfortunate considering they would have been really solid looks had they not been sliding off her body.

I feel like you can tell the difference between seasons where a well established drag performer from that country has at least some input towards production, such as Drag Race France, and those seasons which don't. I feel like France is one of the most entertaining and less produced seasons of Drag Race at the moment, and I hope the other franchises clock on to how amazing France is and try and emulate it a bit more and somewhat consult performers who would know how to best represent the Drag from the region that franchise is based in. I know Nicky isn't a producer on France but in interviews she has said that production does talk to her about things, and she gives some input but still lets them do their own thing as she obviously doesn't want to overstep on productions toes. I wish with Drag Race down under and Drag Race UK Ru and Michelle would step back and let either a Queen from the DR universe or a very well established queen from the region host instead, as I think there are so many nuances that neither of them can pick up on, and it'd potentially also allow for more time filming given you're then not beholden to Ru/Michelle's schedules. I'd like to see the DR franchise transition to Ru/Michelle hosting just America, global all stars, and American All stars- and also getting rid of the "vs the world" seasons and instead just doing All stars for specific franchises like Espana, as I really think that Uk all stars and Canada All stars would just be so much better received than the vs. the world seasons. Then you could have a natural progression for contestants of "regular" season --> Franchise All stars --> Global legends/all stars. With the Global seasons following similar rules to All stars 7, while the Franchise all stars remain elimination based, with some contestants potentially skipping over the Franchise all stars if deemed "legendary" enough from their main season. As there are obviously cases where people probably won't come back without the guarantee of not being sent home, and since global all stars would consist of such legends having winners competing on it too would also make sense as it'd be a season consisting of contestants from their seasons "top 3's" and/or the "top 3's" of the franchise all stars. So it'd still be an even playing field. Maybe more so for international winners of "regular" seasons than winners of franchise all stars/regular american season winners, so the odd "winners edition" of global all stars would also very much be popular. Lmao that turned into a rant quickly, I just think drag race are overlooking the very obvious best way to format their competition lol
@Rorza94
@Rorza94 Жыл бұрын
100% agree. I think one of the main areas where it's glaringly obvious that Ru and Michelle feel out of place is any comedy challenge on DU. I feel like our humour is just... different. It's very much for us, if that makes sense. Kinda similar with UK. You really need someone actually local to be able to volley in something like Snatch Game, understand the references, and even give critiques.
@sarahrigby7580
@sarahrigby7580 Жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Only alternative I would suggest is that you could do All Stars type things by language groups if you wanted to mix it up a bit, eg France/Belgian/Quebecois, Holland/Belgian, Spain/Mexico. But it should def be national DR -> All Stars/Regional-> Global comp. Makes no sense otherwise. And also France S1/S2 and Espana S1/2 have been fabulous and so much less produced. American-ising UK/Aussie/Kiwi stuff doesn’t really work, for me.

God the production and direction of DRDU would’ve been so much better if they had Art at the helm like we all originally thought instead of Ru. Like yeah they don’t have a great budget, but I think it would be a totally different story if they had an actual Aussie queen heading the production…yeah Art didn’t win the show, but if Nicki Doll has taught us anything, placement doesn’t determine your ability to be an amazing host and Art is a great host here. Wish we all lived in the timeline where Art was the host

Art, I think you should maybe think of it more of they should maybe wait a little longer before going on drag race, as drag can be essential to someone’s being, but so is food and rent. Ellie Diamond from DRUK still worked another job because regional drag just didn’t pay enough and post-covid has said she may be forced to give up on a drag career because of financial reasons and she was a finalist. Plus doesn’t Lazy Susan have another job?? Most queens will need to transition from part time alter-ego to occasional club performance to gradually earning enough to do drag full time and getting on a show like DR could be what gives them the freedom to do that. Perhaps it would help if they actually interviewed or screen tested queens on top of the audition tapes they have to do. I would love to see Lazy Susan on there though.

Could the time limit on preparation be hurting our queens a lot more than other countries due to population & location? With such a small timeline I'm guessing the queens can only really get stuff in Australia or New Zealand & with only so many designers to go around it seems like the queens are incredibly hamstrung in what they can even acquire to fit the brief.

I mean in her defense, it’s not like Ivory casted herself on the show. Production watched the tapes and felt she was ready to be on. It’s not her fault that she made it over a full time queen, and what is she supposed to do, deny the spot after she got it? Also, as I’m sure you’re aware, a lot of drag artists have side jobs (or have drag as their side job) and still slay on stage, even Ru girls. Minty Fresh from DRPH1 comes to mind (5th place and 2 wins!)
