Right? I love all the seasons. I speak Spanish and love the Mexico and España franchises. In fact, Mexico as a country arguably has some of the most visually creative queens I’ve ever seen. Beyond just WOW and Drag Race, "La Más Draga" on KZbin is everything. The queens, the hosts, the judges, Yari Mejía… she’s everything! ❤️ Plus it has very long episodes because it’s on KZbin, and there aren’t the same limitations. Very long runways, judges’ critiques, etc. And extremely ornate looks. More intricate fashions than I’ve ever seen on any Drag Race season, anywhere.

"Camionista" is an outright insult, that often gets thrown around in Italy especially at women who are perceived to be 'too masculine' by being 'too big/muscly/having too many tattoos'. I just need someone to validate me and point out how they destroyed Ivana Vamp on the stage because she wasn't funny in the branding challenge and she was supposed to be funny because she was fat and hence she was cast to have self-deprecating humor and excel at comedy challenges. Meanwhile Ivana was like "I'm not a comedy queen, my drag character is a rich, sexy woman always surrounded by men". This was on episode 2! Each episode kept blowing my mind in the worst ways possible.

As an italian speaker, it was very exciting to watch S1 of DRIT, even with it being the fever dream that you described in this video. S2 was, IMO, a very good season; actually, one of the best of 2022. And, if the alleged cast of S3 is true, I believe we’re in for one of the best international Drag Race seasons ever (unless production fucks it up, of course).

Can you please talk about the craziness of Drag Race Thailand’s format. I think the most important context for that season is that the episodes came out as it aired and the episodes actually did takes weeks to film, which is relevant for the disqualification of Miss Gimhuay, the returns of Kana Warrior & Kandy Zyanide. There’s also the queens who win and get eliminated in the same episode. Loved this video specifically bc I feel like no one else in my life watched this season so I was silently going crazy watching it back in 2021.

enorma's whole arc during the season was bizarre because it was clear that everyone on set more or less already hated her from the get go, then she proceeded to perform very well, and then... that whole thing. it was a whole weirdly entertaining rolleroaster but i did come out of it with her still being a favorite. elecktra winning with no challenge wins is very iconic to me though. and about that, this may be a bit too speculative but i think the reason Farida lost is because production really, really didnt like her.

One of the things you are missing about this episode is that Enorma Jean blasphemed. She said “dio porco”, god is a pig. In Italy, you’re legally not allowed to blaspheme. So they had to jettison her.

Honestly, Italia S1 is a camp masterpiece only few can appreciate :)) I unironically like it because of the talents those queens shown. Rafaella Carra's rusical was everything. I liked that the queens were expressive and willing to fight. The drama was explosive. It was said online that they disqualified Enorma because she said "porco dio" to one of the producers, which is a very offensive thing in Italy. Farida was shown as really bitchy and she had no support of the public. Everyone wanted Elecktra to win then. I think Elecktra is so talented and definitely was robbed of the challenge win. Drag Race Italia is really important because political situation there is bad. The right wing government is taking the rights from LGBTQ people there and Drag Race Italia is one of the only shows there that supports them. I'm super exited for Season 3!!!

Well it has been said more than once why Electra won. There was no money for the winner. The big prize was a contract with MAC cosmetics for a line featuring the winner. Having Electra was the obvious choice for that. Apparently MAC pushed for Electra

Italia Season 1 was really the girl of delusion land. At the time i was super into intl seasons and was trying to understand the cultural references etc so i was in a lot of the country specific drag race Twitter. Some of the fights in untucked were so wacky and not at all understandable that i asked a lot of Italians in case i missed sth, and even they were like "girl the edit was crazy even we didn't understand where this fight came from, how it started and why they're doing the things they're doing" 😅 to me that's camp

Thanks for this! I watched Italia 1 in real time and I remember the fight episode and all the crazy stuff you remember. I also remember being baffled about why Lakisha kept getting saved, and why Farida was ultimately denied the win. It made no sense to me at the time at all. I too think Electra is gorgeous and makes a beautiful winner but I remember thinking that they passed Farida over because she isn’t as classically beautiful as Electra, and they wanted their first winner to be the most beautiful contestant they had. Still, I have recommended that folks watch Italia 2 because you’re right. They turned the ship around and the second season was much better. I’d love to hear your views on drag race Belgium. They had a front runner I thought they dumped too early. Anyway, keep them coming!

I'm Italian and I was so excited when they announced DR for my country. I already went into it not liking one of the judges on the panel ( the ex big brother winner, a gay man who was seen being friendly with our toxic prime minister who is anti abortion and homophobic), I still got the streaming service just to see it. The way the cast was treated so poorly and the biggest mental breakdown I think I've ever seen on TV from a reality tv contestant, I could go on.

21:28 well... this is where your statement about queens' personal experience and not-shown events come into place! With a personal interview with both Ava and Farida (ciao ame ❤) in a podcast (which is a public source) - Non È La Race - that me and two other persons held a while back, it has to be said that the whole situation was poorly handled and there is huuuge gaps on storytelling and editing. By the interviews, we know that Ava was upset and that the footage shown is just an extract of the conversation, which was kinda more heated in full. When it comes to Enorma, what we know is that compared to the rest of the cast, she had been the most "competitive" of the bunch in multiple ways, something that in certain moments has rubbed all the other girls in the wrong way. This partially lead Enorma to have her reaction to the whole situation. Farida, instead, told in our interview that she was upset by the critiques given by Priscilla, defining her as cocky. This was not (obviously) taken very well by Farida (which in conversation we definitely agreed being the absolute opposite of cocky!), hence her part of the conversation with Enorma. So yeah, this whole moment made no sense even for italian speakers cuz it is a cut and paste of a lot of things with very little to almost no logic sense 😅

Enorma and Ava were made to lipsync to avoid disqualification because they both swore by "cursing God" while arguing, which is illegal to do on TV in Italy. Enorma spilled this after the season from memory; she was posting on places such as Instagram and Reddit about her experience.

Elektra Bionic was a Wallet-Winner, a winner that won because of runways she only paid and didnt even design. Same as Krystal Versace in the same era. No bigger merits than looking good on the runway, in demerit to talented queens who couldn't afford the flashy, blingy stuff and got left behind. She's also a very generic winner from the Drag Race era: I don't see how Italia's Drag is represented on her more than on Krystal Versace let's say. There are other unique queens with unique points of view that add something new to the Drag Race lanscape, and while Elektra was always impecable she didnt tell a new story or brought a new point of view. She just looked good in Drag Race standars, according to outside designers that know how to design for that runway.

Another example to support this argument about this "lipsync for disqualification" dilutes the consequences is Holland season 2, which also to my opinion was the nail on the coffin of that franchise. They should've disqualified Vivaldi but instead made her lipsync and then saved her, even when all the contestants said she should be punished!!!! The franchises really should take this disqualification discussion seriously and either do it or not talk about it at all

20:37 While I very much don’t agree with Ava’s first lipsync in episode 4, I believe she’s gone on record and said it was because she called god a pig on camera 💀 Blasphemies to my knowledge are illegal to air on television in Italy, and contestants getting disqualified for them is a fairly common occurrence over there, so it’s less the anger towards the critique being the reason, moreso the blasphemy comment. Because they have the liberty of not being live, she didn’t need to be disqualified, but that seems to be the real reason for the lipsync there

Yes that is what happened!! :) But keep in mind that I said I am only critiquing what we were shown in the edit, not what happened behind the scenes :) so in the context of the product that we were given (the product being the season), it made no sense why she was punished

Honestly the thing with Elektra was that she could’ve won so many of the challenges she was safe in but they didn’t give the wins to her they gave em to Enorma or Divinity who they both sent home anyway, on the flip side of things, the finale fully won her the season

It was very unprofessional of production, and insulting to Enorma Jean, that she was allowed to compete in the challenge for episode 4, put on her makeup, hair, outfit and accessories ready for the runway, only to be talked down to by the judges and made to lip sync and get disqualified, what should’ve happened instead is, Priscilla privately speaks with Enorma and informs her that her violence in untucked wouldn’t be tolerated and she must leave, then inform the queens that Enorma has been disqualified due to violence. (Also, Ava Hangar shouldn’t have been in that position of being talked to by the judges)

Thank you for this. Even as an Italian speaker, I gave up after Episode 2 because I just didn’t enjoy the format, extremely long episodes, odd pacing, and bad judging. I had always heard about the messiness from Mera Mangle but now I feel like I understand the episode 4 messiness more. I still remember being gagged at Electra being announced as the winner with no challenge wins on Christmas Eve. A literal fever dream. I heard Season 2 is so much better and now Season 3 is going to have a big cast
