This might be the most essential video regarding handstands on the internet. I've been doing handstands for 5 + years and my consistency in kicking up has always been erratic and has led to intense frustrations. It wasn't until I learned this "split" technique watching someone else just a month or so ago, that I realized that the way they were kicking up into the handstand had never really been articulated anywhere I've seen before. This is absolutely essential, I feel. I feel as though I've been failed by every other video (in the 100s) or article that doesn't mention this. Hopefully, you do a video on kicking up into higher parallettes at some point as well.

Thanks for the tips. Building up with transition exercises with goal to at least do a wall handstand. Haven't been able to do a handstand since a teenager, over 3 decades ago. I forgot as didn't seem hard then. Is it more the quads that get used to kick up? When I attempted, felt like pulling something in tummy.

Things to remember : Warm-up BEFORE the workout. Flexibility/ mobility AFTER the workout. some studies showed that doing mobility exercise before the workout could harm your muscles and it causes strength loss. ( Can't max perf ).

I don't handstand. I shoulder press the world. 💪 Well... I would if I could balance 😑 Oh how arduous is the journey, you think you've got then... ahhh! -wiggles fist- I'm having issues with my proprioception and shoulder mobilty due to external rotation, or lack thereof should I say. I'm 6"3 and weigh about 15st 7lbs (217lbs) I'm roughly 12/13% bodyfat so I think I could slim down. I can balance on a balance board with one leg and juggle so I think I can learn the balance aspect but I'm guessing lack of mobility is an issue as much as perhaps excess fat. Do you think exercises for external rotation/rotator cuff would be beneficial for being able to control my arms over head or do you have any other suggestions?

I just want to point out something you are doing that you are not noticing. When you kick up Correctly, you are leaning forward in the beginning of the kick up. You do this to reduce the amount of effort it takes to kick your legs up over you, and so retain more control of the motion. However this position is very difficult for beginners that do not have the shoulder strength to move their weight forward like that, someone that cannot do a tuck planche, which is most people, will quickly collapse if leaning forward into the handstand.
