@SpaceGuitarMoose I feel it could be very relevant in mma, especially with the cage-grinding style that seems quite popular. Fighters have gotten creative at attacking the legs but not so much the arms

@@NoneOfYourBusinesz Dutch kickboxing is inspired by Kyokushin Karate (all the Dutch K1 greats had black belts in Kyokushin before transitioning to Muay Thai, even Hooft who was an average fighter has one) they adopt a lot of the physicality aka “meathead” Kyokushin practicea like hard sparring everyday and rarely retreating back in defense. It can seem like a primitive tough-man contest rather than technical fluidity, but it works for certain types of fighters. Also, no elbows are allowed and the clinch is very short in duration like boxing, so they aren’t emphasized in training (which can both be major handicaps when transitioning to MMA). Whether a fighter learns traditional Muay Thai or the Dutch K1 style for mma, it’s all down to the talent of the fighter not the style.

I started doing these knees naturally training alone, then went to thai camps and kickboxing classes and they told me off. But i knew from doing it it felt right so didn't care, why do places try and force you to do it their way, when clearly here these are incredible functional knees.

Yeah that annoys me sometimes. When something is clearly working for you but it gets trained out of you because it doesn't fit the gym's style. And conversely when you know something the gym teaches isn't good practice or technique but are forced to drill it anyway.

I love this. The Thai masters just call this a kick. They don't really care what range you are because they'll throw a round house at you and keep the knee bent if you bumrush them and then hit you with a crushing knee. This actually hurts MORE than a regular roundhouse which already hurts like hell. If you're slightly longer range, they just straighten out the knee and hit you with the upper shin. Even more out they kick you with mid shin, then lower shin, then the instep of the foot.
