In the world of MMA, something incredible happens every day. Fights in the ring bring together fighters of different style, invoice, character and physical strength. Fights between diverse fighters make MMA fans from all over the world clap their hands. The spectators go crazy with the fights, when each of the opponents goes to the end without sparing their strength.
One of such famous fights took place on September 12, 1999. Fighters such as Igor Vovchanchyn and Mark Kerr met in one ring. Ukrainian fighter Ihor Vovchanchyn was considered a legend of mixed martial arts. His sports career began in the 1990s in Kharkiv. Already at the age of 20, Igor managed to win his first title of world champion in kickboxing according to IAKSA. Three years later, Vovchanchyn became the champion of the WWC heavyweight tournament, and two years later he won two more MMA tournaments.

Kerr was a monster and great athlete, but he never liked fighting, hurting and getting hurt. Igor was a bad matchup at that point, a tank who hit like a cannon and knew how to handle himself vs grapplers. Vovchanchyn was an animal, one of my absolute favorite, an emotionless killer, truly "ice cold".

Igor and Kerr were both absolute monsters in the cage/ring, I don't know if we've seen cleaner faster shots in MMA, ever, and Igor had absolute dynamite in his hands, a dream matchup in any era. Any other era, this fight would have been considered a "super fight". Both very humble people, and possibly two of the nicest people to ever fight in MMA.

Imagine if Kerr was a striker, he surely can throw punches and kicks bu he was never a striker. The most impressive about this fight is how Vovchanchyn threw his best punches and but didnt stop Kerr. Mark Kerr was a monster.

Pride changed their rules regarding knees and kicks to the heads of downed opponents after Pride 12, where Vovchanchyn and Kerr's first fight occurred. Starting in Pride 13, soccer kicks and knees to the head of grounded fighters were not only legal, but seemed to be encouraged!

Kinda ironic, knees to the head is how Igor lost to Coleman. Full circle.

@@nickeverything4433 What's ironic and full circle about it? The coleman fight was just one of many, Igor had dozens of fights after where he won some and lost some. Just like any fighter is was aware he could lose or win a fight any night, be it by punches, knees, submissions, etc. There was nothing ironic or full circle about it.

Its wasn't domination!!!! Kerr was on top 90% of the fight. The first fight was declared a draw. Because igor delivered an illegal knee to kerrs head while he was on all fours.
@PedrikoGunso
@PedrikoGunso 5 ай бұрын
The first fight Igor did most of the damage. Kerr in the top position didn't do any significant ground and pound. He was done after the first knee of Igor (first one was legal) Anyway yes the first fight was declared a no contest. But in the second one Igor won. I respect Mark Kerr because he is a legend and his first eleven wins thought most of them weren't against top fighters, he won a lot of fights so fast and easy. But he didn't have the fighting spirit that many fighters like Igor have. When the fight got hard he just stayed on top and didn't try to ground and pound or improve position, look his fight with Heath Herring

@meissnerflux
@meissnerflux 5 ай бұрын
@@jallen3556 yes.my point is thar Igor was too much of a fighter on various levels for Kerr to handle, even though Kerr was an animal . Igor had a solid closed guard and elusiveness , clever w strikes from the bottom, etc , and . It took a fresh Coleman over 20 minutes to put a tired Igor into danger in the Finals of the Grand Prix , (and with knees to back of head... ). Interesting point about Kerr and Herring. I could see Kerr,who's double leg TD was superb, possibly winning at least on points and some GnP, because Heaths take down defense was not very good , even though his sub defense was excellent vs Big Nog and others ... Like you said,The right strategy might have yielded Kerr the win vs heath... Ironically , same with Igor vs Herring, but opposite strategy... Igor chose to take down the larger Herring several times , but could have won had he kept it standing more, IMO.

@meissnerflux you know a lot more about fighting than I do. I remember becoming a Mark Kerr fan after seeing his fights in the UFC. I remember renting a tape from Blockbuster and was just intrigued by his athleticism and how well spoken he was. And then I saw is documentary at Best Buy and couldn't believe it because I remembered who he was. After that I bought every single Pride DVD and watched everything I could about kerr. I watched the smashing machine so many times it destroyed the dvd. True story. And I'm actually Facebook friends with him on facebook.
