@Juan Gonzales ... that's under kickboxing rules. Going in close to a Thai fighter under Thai rules will be a good way to get an elbow smashed between your face or pulled into a clinch where they will proceed to remove your pesky ribs via knees.

@Juan Gonzales so what rules are we hypothetically talking about here? Are we still restricting the Thai fighter with kickboxing rules?

@stevess7777
@stevess7777 4 жыл бұрын
@Juan Gonzales Are you still failing to put elbows, which are obviously legal in Muay Thai, into the equation? Going in close like you've said so many times will only allow the Thai to get elbows both outside and inside the clinch. As for low kicks, which you say are "the only good defense a Thai fighter has", taking a kick anywhere is much easier said than done according to you. Boxers can't check kicks because they haven't conditioned their shins, and tensing up your leg makes no difference when the contact point of the kick is a hard bone of a shin, not a foot. Spinning will only get your back to end up like hamburger meat: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZmqenp_arSborc

@@wliaputs Eh, a lot of people would still argue that the UFC is too brutal today. Partially because of all of the Muay Thai that is allowed in the sport now because people love it. The Thai kick is seen in pretty much everyone's repertoire, knees and elbows are flying around as much as punches, and you see a rough clinch in almost every fight. Back in the day, they didn't know how to change the rules to include Muay Thai into the sport. They just didn't have the understanding they do now.

For the people saying the low kicks were a basic move that anyone can do, you fail to realize that's all he was allowed to do outside of punching. Remember, he couldn't throw any elbows, flying knees and other shit that's apart of the fighting style. He may have killed the kick boxer if he was able to do everything

Pretty much sums it up about Muay Thai.....it's basically all moves and attacks that are illegal in every single other type of hand to hand sports. Hell you can't even throw elbows in fricken MMA. It's essentially the school you study if you like cheating. And the fact that he threw that low kick literally hundreds of times with nothing else pretty much proves it.

Yeah, the pain is one thing if you can ignore it, but once the bruising sets in a bit, you lose the normal muscle control and the muscle stiffens as it fills with blood so every further hit is absorbed less and does more damage. It does take a couple of minutes to take effect, that's why he's so much worse off in the round 2. If he sat down at all between rounds, I bet he had trouble getting up.
@timeshark8727
@timeshark8727 3 жыл бұрын
The way he tried to dodge them made them land harder too. Quite a lot of the kicks landed after he partially dodged and was off balance with a lot of his weight on the wrong leg. He would have been better off just tightening his leg and taking the hit than jumping off balance and getting hit in a way that made his leg twist around. Its gonna hurt either way, but I'd rather have a massive bruise on my thigh than a shattered knee.

They pitted all commers who were the best in the world at their art, against each other with, no rules, no weight classes, no time limits, no rounds, just brawling. And yes, through The years Muay Thai has proven to be one of the more effective arts, but no art by itself, is the most Superior way of fighting. And in those first ufc events, it was REPEATEDLY brazilian jiu jitsu that was coming out on top. Movie tie fighters were effective but they certainly weren't killing their opponents, even when they could use everything they knew. It was hilarious that this was considered a fair cross-style fight when the rules laid out eliminated most Thai boxing techniques, and it's even funnier when the brother suggested that the Thai style held no merit after a Thai boxer destroyed Rufus's leg with a neutered version of his style. I'm glad we've moved into the era of MMA where this kind of thing can be properly demonstrated.

@@Jacktoriousrexrex Muay Thai brings a lot of things to the table which can be utilized in MMA. Muay Thai fighters are very strong clinchers and their kicks, knees and elbows are infamous for a reason (although not all of it is allowed under MMA ruleset). They kick like horses and they have a fearsome mindset/iron will: They keep coming. They're tough, very tenacious and have a lot of stamina. That being said, a traditional, pure Muay Thai fighter, fighting only with traditional, pure (Sport) Muay Thai, probably wouldn't stand a chance in professional MMA, I guess. I've never seen it at least. In the end you need to be more versatile than that, fighters need to be experts in multiple fighting styles so that they can fight in all elements (hence Mixed Martial Arts). You need additional stuff for your ground game (brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, wrestling) and some skill in Western Boxing or you won't last long in an MMA fight. Edson Barboza's style is an amalgamation between Muay Thai, Boxing, (Brazilian) Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo. Joe Rogan once said that he considers him as "probably the best kicker in MMA" and it's easy to see why. He loves connecting those kicks over and over again, until he finally sees the pain in his opponents eyes.

@@Jacktoriousrexrex Israel Adesanya began with Muay Thai. Thai Clinch is devastating if it cannot be escaped (Silva vs Franklin). But pure muay thai is not enough. Problem is the thai stance on loading weight on the back leg makes it easy for a wrestler to grab a take down.

I'm not saying I agree with him, but I don't see what point you are trying to make. There are a lot of things in life that require very low skill and by doing them it allows people to defeat someone who is way more skilled and talented than they are. If you lose to a low skill technique that doesn't say anything about you, it just means your opponent was doing something cheesy. Often times being cheesy and doing something low skill is a GREAT way to defeat someone way more talented than you are. That's the entire point.

I don't doubt the danger of their kicks at all mate. When I was in school, my uncle picked me up and was driving by one of his mates. When he approached, he had pretty much no teeth and when my uncle asked what the fuck happened, he told him he started doing muay thai and weren't taking it seriously so he refused to get a mouth guard. He had his first spar and a soon as it started he just got decked with a head kick, his teeth just shattered. I just remember looking at what was probably some late teens to early 20s bloke with his very own abyss right there in his gob, and thinking, "fuck that".

It really speaks incredibly of the power of muay thai. This is not just kickboxing vs. muay thai, this was FULL kickboxing vs. a PART of muay thai. The Muay Thai fighter was restricted on SO many levels thus was unable to practice his full art and had to adjust to that while competing against a champion kickboxer able to fully practice his fighting style in the way he was accustomed. I would say that makes muay thai and the muay thai fighter exceptionally badass.
