Girl, I love you. As a recent owner of some properties, I had experienced the layover tenants destroying portions of the homes. IE kicking in the front doors. One was a SO and I was able to get him to vacate quickly but the other was a little wilder. I didn't understand the entire construction of a door system and your video was VERY logical, straight forward and practical using real world examples. Yes a lot of people do it but yours was just so... idk like, the vibes are good. Thank you fam

Great teaching video. You assume the people watching the video don't know how to do any construction work and they are coming to youtube to find out how to do this. Alert to other youtube stations: Do This! That is the point of information exchange! If you already know how to do construction work, you won't be searching for such a how-to video anyway, so well done in knowing how to speak to your audience. I would suggest pointing out to use 3 inch screws for extra security if it is an outside door.

Can you do a toilet wax ring repair video? Thank you for your videos
@coolfixin23132 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. It was fun to prepare your answer. Watch this fine toilet installation video from Kohler, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqm6ZYhvbNx-i5Y. Sometimes, the toilet flange is broken. This normally occurs only with older houses. If your toilet flange is broken, then use this product, www.homedepot.com/p/OATEY-1-4-in-Stainless-Steel-Toilet-Flange-Replacement-Ring-427782/303864005. Also, you may need to raise the height of your toilet flange if you have put down new flooring which causes your flange to be below the finish floor. Watch my Easy Cut Tile Around Toilet video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmrPkmWZnKp-abc&t. This video describes a toilet flange spacer which can elevate your toilet flange. It is permissible to use 2 or 3 spacers stacked together if your toilet flange is quite a bit below the finish floor. Usually, you do not need a flange spacer. If necessary, normally only one spacer is required.

great video but this I s a outdated way of making a latch assembly, it was from a time when people were more honest! nowadays doors need securing with metal plates and 4 inch screws all around it, even the hinges!!
@coolfixin23136 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I am not convinced that longer screws are helpful. Yesterday, I repaired a kicked in door with an oversized super latch secured with 3” screws. Your suggestion may work. However, the door would look terrible if somebody unsuccessfully tried to kick in the door. Also, the windows are still vulnerable. The approach that we take to avoid kicked in doors is explained in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6TLpZaihLGtmc0.

if you installed 3 inch long screws then it would be a lot harder to kick down
@coolfixin23134 жыл бұрын
Actually, I sometimes have used 2 ½” or 3” screws. However, the sizes of the screws do not reduce the ease of kicking in a door. I have seen about 70 kicked in doors as a rental landlord over the last 30 years. The only strong doors are commercial, solid metal doors which open to the outside. All residential doors open to the inside. Standard exterior residential wood doors or wood doors with metal exterior (shown in this video) are easy to kick in. Please view how we avoid kicked in door damage in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6TLpZaihLGtmc0. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate another opportunity to state that doors are easily kicked in.

That is very funny. I also have noticed that many contractors are surprised when I describe this smarter method of repairing door jambs. It really is not necessary to remove the entire jamb. That is more time consuming, expensive, and does not yield a better repair.
@natewoodard344 жыл бұрын
I had the same thoughts. Every single video out there is how to remove and replace the entire side of the jamb. This is the only video I saw where a small section was cut out and replaced--seems a lot easier to do it this way than remove the whole side. Work smarter not harder!

It would help if you have a list of tools and parts before each video. At the very least just the tools. Great video though

Thanks for your wise suggestion! Our first instructional video about how to remove windows with nailing fins, kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpObo2iuq8-ap6s&t, did list the tools and materials. Our siding repair video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYqkn2qhbd52os0, also lists the tools and material. However, we at CoolFixin’, make a strong effort to be concise and reduce the length of our videos. Thus, we sometimes eliminate the twenty to thirty seconds necessary to list the tools. The door jamb repair video was already one of our longest videos and we therefore decided not to add tool and material information.

This comment is simply untrue. This door repair is no stronger or weaker than most new doors. Any knowledgeable carpenter would tell you that all standard, new doors are very easy to kick in. If you want a very strong door, you must install a fully, metal door which opens to the outside. A standard metal exterior door with a wood interior which opens to the inside can be easily kicked in. I have only repaired about 70 new doors installed by competent contractors which were kicked in without much effort.
