The point of the video is to always check to see all the rules and regulations before booking. It’s not just about dogs - this campground also does not allow tents, campsite fires or RVs that can’t hook up fully. Based on some comments, I found links to other NE state parks with strict pet policies: Connecticut- portal.ct.gov/DEEP/State-Parks/Camping/Camping-Areas---CT-State-Parks-and-Forests#saltrock ; New York - thedyrt.com/magazine/local/campers-love-these-6-dog-friendly-campgrounds-in-new-york/ ; Maryland - dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Documents/MPSPetPolicy.pdf ; Pennsylvania - dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Documents/MPSPetPolicy.pdf ; New Jersey - www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/pet_friendly_camping.html (and thank you for helping the channel- EVERY comment - the rude/ignorant/uncalled for- still helps the algorithm 😁)

We were traveling through New England in 2019 and spent 7 days in New Hampshire on our return trip. Not only did we find that State Parks did not allow pets, we also found that many commercial parks either didn’t allow pets or charged extra if you had pets. We wound up staying at Danforth Bay campground which is about an hour from Ellacoya. Check it out next time. Pets were allowed and there were no extra charges.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, many people left negative comments so we really appreciate someone seeing the message we were trying to convey. Many northeast state park campgrounds are not pet friendly so we triple check now - the south is the opposite. But really we wanted people to look at all the fine print - Ellacoya also doesn’t allow tents, campsite fires or RVs that can’t hook up fully? Very strange for a state park. It’s a shame all websites don’t require you to click pet or not - the way you are required to put in RV length. Again, it’s great to read a comment like yours 🤗

We travel full time with our dog - it’s not a weekend choice. But besides that, there are more obnoxious kids and adults than dogs from what I’ve seen all the years we have been camping. Then there is the litter and damage to the campground done by humans. Frankly, you missed the point. We want people to avoid places like this. Know the rules before you go. No comment on no tents? Is that because of tappers? No comment on restricting types of RVs? Is that because of yappers? Have no never had a hard time enjoying a campground because of a human? 🤔

Irresponsible dog owners ruin it for the rest of us. We were at a private park in AZ that borders BLM property. Separated by a three rail fence. People would actually climb through the fence for their dog to do it's business, and then not pick it up. Land mines everywhere.

25+ years ago dogs were prohibited in all Florida State Parks. I went to to head of the Division (I worked in the same headquarters) and told her how much money they were missing out from people not camping in state parks because of their stupid rule. After a lot of public input the rule was changed and the parks began to fill up. That is another reason FSP treats poop leavers and people who leave their dogs unattended so seriously. If people would do the right thing, we wouldn’t have stupid rules!

Preplanning is a must. Although I do not agree with the no pet policy, due to some specific instances, I understand it. My wife and I were walking our dogs at a State Park in TN. Suddenly, 3 dogs came charging out from a campsite and they were far from offering a friendly greeting. They were also extremely lucky that their owners were able to grab the long ropes they were attached to (but nothing on the other end) and pulled them back. One of my dogs was a huge Boxer (he can lay his head on the dining room table and he weighs in at 115 lbs.) and the other was an 85 lb. Choc. Lab. I assure you, the Boxer alone would have actually killed all three of their dogs. He's very protective of PaPa. Another instance was at the same park. A large German Shepard was on a long lead rope (at least 30 ft.) and it charged out at an elderly couple walking by the campsite. I informed the Park Ranger and when he went to talk to the owners, the dog attacked him. They were forced to leave and banned from the park. When some people fail to control their pets, or their pets are extremely dangerous towards others, it ruins it for all of us.

Wow thats weird. I hope they mark that clearly when booking a site at those campgrounds. I are going to try to look at campground maps when booking to make sure we can catch anything like this. But sometimes you book quickly because you are just trying to find anyplace to go, and you can only hold it in your cart for 15 minutes. 15 min is not enough time to get it all done. Is the site big enough, is it close to our route, does it have hook ups, etc. Seeing if they take dogs just didn't occur to us. Thanks for the heads up in PA, we will be back in the fall. Larry

I’ve camped in New Hampshire a ton and never ran into this! You’re spot on about mass not having many spots to camp. Maybe check out some of the parks/rural areas near Pittsfield. I imagine you could overnight in some of the Appalachian trail parking lots. Some of them have really long dirt roads that you could probably pull over on and sleep for a bit till you moved along. Some can handle an rv but there are a lot of options for car camping/spots to park and go tent out in the woods overnight. You really gotta know where to go when you’re coming here because there isn’t a lot online.

In addition, I have had several problems in the past with Park rangers. And when you get into more remote camping areas, you'll see every law enforcement agency in the state at some point during your stay. There was Mt Rushmore size poop by the community faucet, the dumpster and sidewalk leading to bathhouse. I spoke to the ranger and she said they cant put a limit on how many pets you can bring, I said why not? You have a limit on how many people can be on a site? She had no answer. I know, coming from a dog owner, this sounds weird but hear me out. There is nothing that I dislike more than hearing a dog barking all day and walking in dog’s poop. I’m a responsible dog owner. Just like I did with the children, I never leave my dog alone and I find a dog sitter every time I have to leave. If I can’t find a dog sitter, just like when I couldn’t find a baby sitter, I stay home with the dog. This way, it doesn’t bark all day unsupervised. I totally agree with you! I am a total dog lover and owner of six dogs, but I would never impose my dogs on people the way so many RV camp dog owners do. I’ve been staying in my RV off and on for four months and have someone taking care of my dogs and can’t believe how irresponsible some dog owners are. I was at one park where my neighbor tied their Husky outside of the trailer and the dog stands out there and howls all the time. I’ve seen dog owners letting their dogs go to the bathroom right by a no dog poo sign and leave it. Going for a walk I have walked in a ‘no children” area but it’s full of dogs and it’s like walking in a dog kennel. So it’s not ok to have children in an area because they’re too noisy but sure let your dogs be unruly and noisy. People leave their dogs in small pens outside of their trailers unattended and also barking at everything. If you went to the RV office to complain they would have to reprimand or kick so many people out! This is why it is necessary to have ‘no dog’ rules in so many parks now, it’s not the dogs, it’s the people who allow their dogs to be such a public nuisance.

So often here in the Southeast US state parks it seems like 90% of the campers have dogs. The iconic rite of passage for the new RV camper is walking the dog around the campground loop and chatting with friendly neighbors, usually about each others dogs. Glad we don't live in pompous New Hampshire.

I’m getting more comments about other NE state parks. I’m so surprised. But Maine isn’t like that at all. But also, thanks have had NH residents surprised. I think Ellacoya in particular wasn’t like other state parks- no fire rings? You are required to have water, power, and sewer hooked up? We have always had dogs- when we had a sticks and bricks and now that our RV is our home. Some people just don’t get it. Which is fine. Some behavior by people in campgrounds I don’t get either- whether they have a dog or not. We just will skip NH and any other state campgrounds that make it obvious they don’t want dogs, Alice

Unfortunate use of words. Pompous? Generally people are not like that at all in NH. If previous dog owners were more responsible then it probably would not have been a problem. Sorry for your experience and we feel your pain. We own a American Pitbull Terrier and everytime we look at rules and regulations we see her breed is the top on the list of breeds that are not allowed. It is very disappointing when we see things like that. We would hate to reserve something and then get asked to leave because of doggy racism. We often find ourselves having to lie about her breed because of fear of getting asked to leave and we get asked about her breed a lot. I wonder if they ask her breed because they are surprised that no one is dead being around her or if it is because she is so sweet, energetic and playful and nothing along the stereotypes branded on the breed or if they want to tell on us and get us removed.Thank you for sharing that info, stay safe and happy camping.

She just stood there watching her dog piss on my tire!!! I banged on the window, she quickly pulled her dog inside an shut the door!! I walked out by my truck, looked at the pee puddle, looked at her window's, a couple times... She got the message!! When I was checking out, I mentioned to the park manager what had happened, when I told him what space number, he got mad, said that's it!! She's out of here this morning!! She's not staying the rest of her reservation!! Jumped in his golf cart took off down the road... Have No idea what he did? If anything? Then there was the time in Seattle Wash. I called the park manager at 2:am, Told him, If he did not get that barking dog shut up, I was filling a dispute on my credit card against the park!! He kicked them out at 2:15am... Another time, near Sacto. Ca. pulled up to my assigned spot, got out to check things before backing in, found 3 big dog dumps, went back to the office, told them I wanted another spot an why!! No other spots left had 30amp hook up, manager had to clean it up before I'd take that spot!! He told me it had to be the people that were in the spot next to mine earlier that morning, because they had a couple big dogs!! Like everyone knows, a few ruin it for everyone else!!! Seams to be the biggest complaint is people not picking up after their pets, even cat owners!! Think more an more parks should go to NO Pets!!!!
